    Works Great, Way over priced

I choose this because the 29$ option without a cord I knew would be incompatible with cases and the like so I paid $10 more to get something that would actually work. Considering that they are changing this I would have thought they'd include one with the phone.

Enough griping, this cable works great and has even made it easier for me to talk on the phone while it is plugged into my car. The cable I had was a little too short to not have a constant tugging from the coiled cord. Now with the extra 20cm I can talk comfortably.

Lets me control my iphone through my car electronics

I bought this to connect my 5 to my car (Benz) electronics so I could control my phone with the car's joystick. Plugged it in and it worked perfectly (to my surprise). My car has a 30 pin cable out and this 30 pin to Lightning fit perfectly and is long enough to the two cables together can connect to the phone while in the cup holder.

My only complaint is the price (thus the 4 star rating). Apple should include one of these with every device as we've all made investments in 30 pin cables over the past 7 years. Starting to lose my patience with Apple over this one.

    It Works!

If you're like me you have at least 4 30 pin white cables; one at the office, one in each car and at least one at home. You buy this adapter because it works with your phone case Andy you carry it with you. White lightning connector cables are $19 and you can get white 30 pin cables for just a few bucks. You use this connector to use the 30 pin cables you have now. If you have to buy 4 lightning cables that's $80 and you still can't use the 30 pin docks without the adapter. This adapter while over priced at $39.99 it is still less than buying all new sync cables. This is a 5 star product but I only gave it 4 stars because of the price and Apple finding another way to make my wallet a little lighter. Apple you should have included one with the device, most of us would have bought at least one more.

    Works, with 2 caveats

    • Written by from Mount Laurel

Restores all functionality of my in dash navigation unit in my car except video (which I knew going in). I'm ok with that, and that's the first caveat.

The second caveat is that I bought the cable version (spending the extra $10) because the lightning tip seemed to be such that it would work with any case. This is NOT the case (no pun intended).

The plastic on the tip of this adapter cable is slightly larger than the plastic on the tip of the lightning to USB cable.

The standard lightning to USB cable fits perfectly through the opening in any case, including the SwitchEasy Tones (highly regarded as one of the best cases out there so far), but this adapter DOES NOT FIT through the opening on the Tones case.

Be warned, if the case you're using has an opening with little to no clearance in any direction when using the lightning to USB cable, then this cable likely won't fit through your case opening.

All this said, the cable works fantastic, I just have to remove my case. Looking at new cases now....

    Different size than USB-lightning plug

I chose this one because the smaller, no-cable adapter doesn't fit with my iPhone 5 case. Turns out this one doesn't fit either because its Lightning housing is larger than the included USB cable's Lightning housing. I have to return it because it is also incompatible with my case.

I don't mind the conceptual change from 30-pin to Lightning, but Apple's implementation seems to be inconsistent and not well thought. Why not make them the same size??

I bought this cable last week, I was so excited to connect it to my vehicle's media interface, so that I can enjoy the songs in my iPhone 5 while driving.

This adapter allows me enjoy the songs in my iPhone 5, but it does not charge the battery. I need an improved adapter that allow me enjoy the songs while charging the battery, please.

Also, this adapter is way over priced.

I have a new, large, expensive desktop stereo I recently purchased almost solely because it had an iphone dock as well as an iphone capable stereo in my car. Purchased this adapter because my phone will now not fit on the big stereo with the non-wired adapter due to the docking area being too small. This adapter does not work on my stereo at all for music, it only charges the phone as the music plays from the phone itself. As for the vehicle, all I get is scratchy static. This is the first time i have ever left a negative review on an apple product but this is ridiculous. With how much we pay for the phone, cases, accessories and all the money in YOUR music store, you can't produce a consistent, reliable little adapter cord? All these reviews are mixed with the functionality of this product on the same docking stations/cars. It doesn't even work on my Bose dock yet it does for others. I now have a full music library stored in a device that I can only access with earbuds. I just spent $40 on a five inch long worthless cord that probably costs $1.50 to produce, thank you Apple

    Outrageous price

This cable works fine... lets me use all of my old iOS devices with my iPhone 5. The absolutely ridiculous part of this is that Apple wants $40 for a cable, A CABLE, that will let me use my new iPhone with the hundreds of dollars of other Apple products I've already invested in. So... now I have to spend more. Not a great way for Apple to say thanks for investing in Apple products.

This adapter is worthless in my opinion. 39.00 bucks for something that isn't even fully functional. No Video playback.. Whew. I went backward by upgrading to iPhone 5 from 3GS. Biggest mistake I've ever made where Apple is concerned? Apple you have the capability to make this adapter do video.. Get er done.. Thanks.

    Apple FAIL

I bought this because I got the ipod 5th gen for christmas but I have an expensive and high quality clock radio that I love and still want to use from LAST christmas.

This cord works for charging when plugged into the old 30pin-to-USB cord and to my computer.

This cord DOES NOT work for much else, especially not my clock radio. It doesn't even acknowledge that it's plugged in!!

I wish I could take the whole ipod back I am so angry. I will at least take the cord to the store and DEMAND my $40 back. NO WAY, Apple. Absolutely no way.

You morons changed the plug so you morons need to create an adapter that works.

I like apple products but this is an insult.

    My first negative comment...

I've never has an issue with Apple products until this lightning to 30 pin adapter situation. I have a specific case that the 30 pin to lightning adapter can't be used for due to case design this should be able to be worked around with this 0.2 lightning to 30 pin cable HOWEVER Apple made the lightning end of this cable thicker than the lightning/USB charging cable for some reason and as such this cable is useless for my application (where the charging cable they designed works fine). Why the thicker cable end? It makes my iPhone to my car stereo impossible at the moment. First Apple fail ever for me.

Connector is different thickness than USB charger

The lightning connectors base is a different thickness than the USB version of the connector and therefore cannot be used with a case on the phone. Wish they stated that in the description, but now you know. If you order this, more than likely you will need to remove your case to use it.

a bit pricey, but work well with all my home and car accessories. It also enables me to hook it up to my iPhone 5 without modding my case. (like the other adapter requires depending on the case you purchased)

I used to connect my iPhone 4s to my car stereo system using 30-pin to RCA cable. But since the iPhone 5 has a new connector I had to buy an adapter. I chose this one because you can actually use it with a case and the connector is still thin not like other adapter which cover the whole bottom of the phone.
I just wish the phone came with these adapters since we did not choose to have this connector changed and yet we have to pay the price.

    Erratic, Expensive and Short

I bought one of these. Right off he bat I could see it was too short to be useful. Needs 6-9 more inches. It did work. Then it didn't. Then it did. No idea what was going on. Certainly not worth the $40 price. I took it back and will wait for the Apple store to get more adapters, which are also overpriced, but do work just fine.

If price is of no object then this is the cable for you.

If your iPhone 5 needs a 30-pin connector adapter to connect to your old accessories, then this is the adapter for you. The other adapter that did not have the cable will not fit most of the iPhone 5 cases out there. This adapter is quite pricey but sure does the job of charging, syncing and playing music on you BOSE sound dock speaker system. However, it will not work with you old camera connection kit or 30-pin to AV cable either.

Awful background noise when using this cable

    • Written by from Vienna

I plugged in this adapter to connect my iPhone 5 to my BMW y-cable output, There was a tremendous amount of background noise, rendering the audio playback unlistenable. In addition, some of the controls using iDrive to control the iPOD no longer worked, but it did charge. I called Apple and they told me to call BMW, which is ridiculous considering the problem is the cable itself, When plugged into the Y-cable directly, the audio is perfect.

I've returned the cable and am still using my old iPHone 4 in my car, but I hope someone at Apple can suggest a fix - perhaps the next version of this adapter will have better noise insulation.
