    Not long enough

I purchased this cable to attach to the dock of my iHome iA90. The cable works just fine to charge, play music, and support all normal functions of the iHome. The problem is that the cable is too short to let the iPhone 5 rest comfortably anywhere on my nightstand or even on the iHome itself.

I returned this cable a few days after purchasing it and opted instead for the "lightning to 30 pin adapter", which for 10 dollars less fits nicely on the dock and actually supports the weight of the iPhone 5.

All in all, I can't really think of a use for this cable.

    Lightning adaptor for iPhone 5

It works for all my needs. It will Charge and play music on both my boom boxes. It is thicker than the original 30 pin plug but fortunately my cases and other devices will Accommodate the size. It is way overpriced therefore I only gave it a four star

Works well but doesn't fit well

This cable had done all I have asked it to do so far, except fit into my iPhone with a case on.

My case (made by Switcheasy, awesome case!) has a hole cut out for the Lightning port. I think many cases have this feature. The cable that shipped with the iPhone fits perfectly. On this cable, the lightning end is MUCH thicker than the original cable and will not fit with my case. I had to remove some of the plastic around the lightning end to even get to close to it fitting.

Why is this end so much thicker? I can't see any reason for it. So if you have a case that has a small cutout for the lightning port, beware of this cable.

    way too short

I am using the cable with a bose sound dock and it's almost not usable. If you can picture half of the McDonald's arch, but flatten it out a bit, that is what it looks like when plugged into my iPhone. Plus the iPhone is upside down and the charger end is up in the air, meaning the phone won't lay flat on the counter. I guess there are a ton of other instances where short might be better, so I guess the complaint is that they should maybe make 2 or 3 lengths. I would imagine the same problem will exist with all brands of docs. I don't think this problem is specific to just the bose sound dock.

    Won't charge my phone...

2 stars because the cable won't charge my phone wihen plugged in to my existing 30-pin system that came with my car (Mini Cooper, Harmon Kardon). Music plays fine, sounds great! However, if I can't charge my phone at the same time I will constantly be worrying if my battery is running down. Or if my battery is already low, I won't be able to recharge OR play any music...bummer! Kinda defeats the purpose, huh?!

Ridiculously overpriced-works with case on but not with docking stations

This adapter works with a case on, unlike the $10 cheaper version, and is great for my car but doesn't work very well with an alarm clock dock. I'm really not happy that Apple greedily charges $40 for this simple adapter (without even including one with the purchase of a new iPhone 5!) and I'll still have to buy the $29 version for my alarm clock and hope that it works! Having to spend $70 for two little adapters is ridiculous, might as well have bought a new alarm clock dock already built for iPhone 5--but of course those don't even exist. :-\

    My first negative comment...

I've never has an issue with Apple products until this lightning to 30 pin adapter situation. I have a specific case that the 30 pin to lightning adapter can't be used for due to case design this should be able to be worked around with this 0.2 lightning to 30 pin cable HOWEVER Apple made the lightning end of this cable thicker than the lightning/USB charging cable for some reason and as such this cable is useless for my application (where the charging cable they designed works fine). Why the thicker cable end? It makes my iPhone to my car stereo impossible at the moment. First Apple fail ever for me.

The adapter fits well with my rokform case. It charges and i can play streaming apps like pandora and espn radio perfectly. However, my gps app's sounds had vibrations through the speakers.

It will also not work with my music. I can view the music files and playlists however when i select a song it will not play. Also it will not work with my steering wheel functions.

My car is a altima 2012.

Works great in my car! (VW Jetta)

My iPhone 5 came in today and I used this adapter to connect to the existing 30 pin connector that came in my 2010 VW Jetta TDI. At first it didn't work because the new phone didn't have any songs on it. Once I downloaded a song or two I retried the cable and it worked. Full skip, pause, play and playlist selection just like I had on the old 4S. I then noticed there was some crackling in the audio, I quickly resolved this by changing the AUX input on my car radio from the High setting back to Medium. Now it is perfect and I love it.
I chose this adapter over the one without the length of cable because the factory 30 pin wire that came with the car is too short and now with this adapter connected the phone can lie flat on the passenger seat! Very happy!

I have a 2009 Infiniti and was looking forward to connecting to my new iPhone5 instead of an old iPod and purchased this cable. Now I find out that it does not support "iPod Out" which renders the connection to my car inoperable. Bummer!

This item works great with the Bose Sounddock. You should know Bluetooth must be turned off and when you're playing music you must select Sounddock as your output for audio.

I bought this product so I can use it in my car. I have a Kensington 2 in 1 AUX cable with the 30 pin connector for the older generation iphones/ipods. Thankfully, this adapter worked with my current setup. Also I have a Belkin sheer iphone 5 case and the slot was just big enough for the lightning port to enter, so whew...

The cable is an awkward length, a little too short or not long enough.

too bad it is not 3 feet long, so I can keep the old 30 pin connector hidden in my car.

Bought yesterday at the Apple store and tried already with my Sony Speakers Dock RDP-M5ip, Philips Clock Radio AJ3270D/17 and Sony Bluray Player BDV-N790W with Ipod reader, and everything work just fine! I have the new Iphone 5 64Gb and these are just the few adapaters I have. I will still have to try my Onkyo A/V receiver TX-NR5007 ipod adapter UP-A1 adapter, iHome Alarm Ip23 clok. The cable could be a litle bit longer and the price could be lower!!! Thanks! I am not disappointed like what happen to some users!

    Works, with 2 caveats

    • Written by from Mount Laurel

280 of 290 people found this useful

Restores all functionality of my in dash navigation unit in my car except video (which I knew going in). I'm ok with that, and that's the first caveat.

The second caveat is that I bought the cable version (spending the extra $10) because the lightning tip seemed to be such that it would work with any case. This is NOT the case (no pun intended).

The plastic on the tip of this adapter cable is slightly larger than the plastic on the tip of the lightning to USB cable.

The standard lightning to USB cable fits perfectly through the opening in any case, including the SwitchEasy Tones (highly regarded as one of the best cases out there so far), but this adapter DOES NOT FIT through the opening on the Tones case.

Be warned, if the case you're using has an opening with little to no clearance in any direction when using the lightning to USB cable, then this cable likely won't fit through your case opening.

All this said, the cable works fantastic, I just have to remove my case. Looking at new cases now....

    Different size than USB-lightning plug

    • Written by from Denver

I chose this one because the smaller, no-cable adapter doesn't fit with my iPhone 5 case. Turns out this one doesn't fit either because its Lightning housing is larger than the included USB cable's Lightning housing. I have to return it because it is also incompatible with my case.

I don't mind the conceptual change from 30-pin to Lightning, but Apple's implementation seems to be inconsistent and not well thought. Why not make them the same size??

I bought this cable last week, I was so excited to connect it to my vehicle's media interface, so that I can enjoy the songs in my iPhone 5 while driving.

This adapter allows me enjoy the songs in my iPhone 5, but it does not charge the battery. I need an improved adapter that allow me enjoy the songs while charging the battery, please.

Also, this adapter is way over priced.

Lets me control my iphone through my car electronics

I bought this to connect my 5 to my car (Benz) electronics so I could control my phone with the car's joystick. Plugged it in and it worked perfectly (to my surprise). My car has a 30 pin cable out and this 30 pin to Lightning fit perfectly and is long enough to the two cables together can connect to the phone while in the cup holder.

My only complaint is the price (thus the 4 star rating). Apple should include one of these with every device as we've all made investments in 30 pin cables over the past 7 years. Starting to lose my patience with Apple over this one.

a bit pricey, but work well with all my home and car accessories. It also enables me to hook it up to my iPhone 5 without modding my case. (like the other adapter requires depending on the case you purchased)
