    Erratic, Expensive and Short

    • Written by from North Easton

I bought one of these. Right off he bat I could see it was too short to be useful. Needs 6-9 more inches. It did work. Then it didn't. Then it did. No idea what was going on. Certainly not worth the $40 price. I took it back and will wait for the Apple store to get more adapters, which are also overpriced, but do work just fine.

Ridiculously overpriced-works with case on but not with docking stations

    • Written by from Forest Hills

This adapter works with a case on, unlike the $10 cheaper version, and is great for my car but doesn't work very well with an alarm clock dock. I'm really not happy that Apple greedily charges $40 for this simple adapter (without even including one with the purchase of a new iPhone 5!) and I'll still have to buy the $29 version for my alarm clock and hope that it works! Having to spend $70 for two little adapters is ridiculous, might as well have bought a new alarm clock dock already built for iPhone 5--but of course those don't even exist. :-\

    Lightning to 30-pin adapter....

    • Written by from Griswold

I am sure this would work to charge and what not, but the soul purpose why I got it, it did not. It would not play my music in my 08 VW Jetta SE.

    Won't charge my phone...

    • Written by from Kailua

2 stars because the cable won't charge my phone wihen plugged in to my existing 30-pin system that came with my car (Mini Cooper, Harmon Kardon). Music plays fine, sounds great! However, if I can't charge my phone at the same time I will constantly be worrying if my battery is running down. Or if my battery is already low, I won't be able to recharge OR play any music...bummer! Kinda defeats the purpose, huh?!

    Does not charge iPad

    • Written by from Minneapolis

Disappointed that it only performs half of its required function--I can use it to play music on speaker devices, but it does not charge. I consider this a major defect in this product, which, as many have noted, was not cheap.

    Does the job...but

    • Written by from Benicia

Great idea from Apple, but it does not seem like much thought was put into it's development. The problem is that .2 meters (7.87 inches) is just not long enough. My iPod is connected via this adapter to a male 30 pin that stands maybe 3 inches tall. Picture this, the cord goes straight up and loops back down (due to how short it is). Because of this, the iPod will not even lay flat on my desk. When I attempt to lay it flat, the 30 pin tends to lift up, breaking the connection. I feel sorry for the people needing to plug their iPod into something taller. Make the cables at least 1' or 2' as these lengths are much easier to work with.

    Not good at all.

    • Written by from Arlington

You're gonna be able to attach to old accessories for your iPhone 4S, I didn't have any problem with the sound, what I couldn't understand is Why Apple design this cable with an thick plug!!.
If you want to use it with a case or even a bumper, you better have an case with a big hole to connect it, or have your iPhone naked, otherwise forget about it!!!

30 pin to lightening adapter- Short, stiff cord with bulky lightening end

    • Written by from Sudbury

Good -it charges and plays back itunes with my ihome.

BAD - it has a too short, very stiff cord. Cord actually can stand up straight on it's own unlike the flexible charger that comes with the phone.

BAD - the lightening end too thick so and I have to take off the case, unlike the 29.00 adapter which fits without taking off the case.

BAD - Expensive. This Was a gift otherwise I suggest taking a chance on the knockoffs first.

    close but no cigar

    • Written by from League City

fits well, charges the phone however, unable to stream Pandora (the reason i bought it). i have a 2011 C63 Benz. deal is the 4S works perfectly with the provided 30pin cable. here is a twist. if i connect the 4S to the factory cable and play pandora and then with the adapter cable connected to the i5 unplug the 4S and hurry and plug the 5 with the adapter cable it plays. doesn't show what is playing but works. can't figure out if the phone needs and update or the car. or maybe the cable has a glitch. i don't know but was a 40 dollar chance and it bit me. any help would be appreciated.

Doesn't work with accessories that require the lightning form factor

    • Written by from Winnetka

For some reason, the lightning end of the adapter is substantially larger than the same end on the USB to lightning cable, so this will not work with anything the depends on that specific form factor. For example, I have a car mount that the cable is supposed to snap into, but it is made for the USB to lightning cable and this one doesn't fit in the mount.

It seems to work ok otherwise, but it is definitely too expensive.

    Very disappointed with adapter solutions...

    • Written by from Montreal

The new lightning connector would be great if Apple actually created some useful adapters and cabling. I need to adapt an iPhone 5 and iPod (5th Generation) for a speaker dock less than a year old...what a nightmare. The 30-pin adapter extends my iPhone and iPod so high that they are very unstable. The 30-pin 0.2m cable is so rigid and short that the iPhone and iPad will not lie flat. For god sakes, give us a cable longer than 8 inches. I'm really disappointed that I'm having to search out scarce and less than elegant 3rd party solutions. This is just like the new Thunderbolt connector on my new iMac...all hype, few products supporting it, and of course way overpriced.

Does not work with iPad Air Smart Case

    • Written by from Irvine

I purchased this 30-pin adapter as I have a few after market products which still use the 30pin connector. The smaller 30-pin adapter does not work with cases, so I thought this one would work. I purchased the Apple product thinking it would work with Apple Smart Cases, but it does NOT. Thankfully I can still use this with my iPhone 5s, but to use it with my iPad Air in a Smart Case I have to remove the iPad from the case as the lightning connector shell is too big. For as much as you pay for this adapter you'd think they'd let you know it doesn't work with their own products.

    Stopped working for no reason

    • Written by from Exton

I have this adapter and the smaller l(square with no cord) adapters. The adapter with the cord suddenly died and no longer charges the phone. Its kept in a drawer and I only use when needed' so there should be no reason why it stopped working. I have tried it with many different cables all with same result.

The other (no cord) adapters still work even though I bought them at the same time. So I guess I'll stick with them. But I liked the corded one because it was less likely to get lost.

Apple - Strategize your social and ethical responsibilities appropriately

    • Written by from St. Cloud

I bought the Apple iphone 6 with the $80.00 LifeProof fre case. I wanted to use my Bose speaker system but the stem is too short to fit in the iphone unless I remove the case every time I want to use the speakers. I chose to keep the adapter since there is no other solutions that I could find out there. I spent $200.00 on my speaker a little over a year ago and can't justify trashing that. This adapter is way overpriced for the 5 inch stiff cord you receive. Apple, you need to be more inventive when sitting in your board room planning your products and determining how to sustain customer service. Not to mention all the adapters and products that are being thrown in the trash because they are useless. You need to look at your social and ethical responsibilities.

Not compatible with some phone cases, despite initial appearances

    • Written by from Oakville

This would be an ideal product if the designers had thought to make the casing around the lightning cable end of the cable the same size as the casing around the lightning to USB cable, rather than bigger. Case manufacturers are designing their products to fit the lightning cable, and not the lightning to 30-pin adapter, so my nice new case is not compatible with the cable. There is no warning about the different size of the adapters on Apple's product description. So much for Apple design innovation!

    Too large

    • Written by from Sydenham

The lightning end plastic part is significantly larger than the same end on the lightning sync cable. For me this is a problem because the case i use for the new ipad air has a much smaller opening for the cable than did my iphone 5 case. The charge sync cable fits fine because the plastic part is about half the size but the adapter can not fit through the opening in my case. I'm using the new zagg folio keys case which has an opening of 1 cm by -.5 cm.

30 pin to hdmi not recognised

    • Written by from Orlando

I bought this thinking that it would work with all of my 30 pin connectors. NOT SO! Can charge when I connect it to my iPad 30 pin cable but if I connect it to the the Apple 30 pin to hdmi adaptor it does not work. It says "this accessory not supported by this iPhone"

Really disappointing since it's Apple accessories and not 3rd party. I was hoping that I would not have to buy a separate lightning to hdmi adapter but it seems I have to.
