Ridiculously overpriced-works with case on but not with docking stations

    • Written by from Forest Hills

This adapter works with a case on, unlike the $10 cheaper version, and is great for my car but doesn't work very well with an alarm clock dock. I'm really not happy that Apple greedily charges $40 for this simple adapter (without even including one with the purchase of a new iPhone 5!) and I'll still have to buy the $29 version for my alarm clock and hope that it works! Having to spend $70 for two little adapters is ridiculous, might as well have bought a new alarm clock dock already built for iPhone 5--but of course those don't even exist. :-\

    Works GREAT with Bose Sounddock

    • Written by from SAINT LOUIS

This item works great with the Bose Sounddock. You should know Bluetooth must be turned off and when you're playing music you must select Sounddock as your output for audio.

    good adapter

    • Written by from Hanmer

a bit pricey, but work well with all my home and car accessories. It also enables me to hook it up to my iPhone 5 without modding my case. (like the other adapter requires depending on the case you purchased)

    Works perfectly

works as expected... the only thing I don't like is how the cable is thicker than the regular USB Lightning cable... and doesn't bend as well.

Doesn't work well to play music!!!

    • Written by from Arlington

I bought this in hopes of using it to connect to my 2010 VW Golf. It has a built in 30-pin adapter and now that I have an iphone 5 it is almost useless. with this adapter, all the functionality is actually there but the Music, for some reason, sounds TERRIBLE, there is so much static. I also tried it on my Altec Lansing iphone dock, sounds terrible on that too...

A Must for any iPhone 5 owner

    • Written by from Chorley

I was lucky to find one of these in the apple store whilst visiting the US.

it works fine with all my speaker systems, philips clock radio and even has full support with my Griffin in car charger/ iphone control.

i also have a case on my phone and glad they did not have the standard lightening connector in as this would not have fit.. this is Superb..

Waste of money. Overpriced yet underdelivers.

    • Written by from Walden

This device is GREAT if you don't mind paying $40 for something that allows your device to function with limitations. No video support. Audio support is limited depending on the accessory you're using it with. But its GREAT for syncing and charging. That said, so was the lightning cable that came with the phone. This is a $40 waste of money and poor decision on Apple's part to switch from 30 pin to lightning.

    A little disappointed

    • Written by from Loveland

This adapter has a very small I mean small cable Seems to work for audio, works well with my pioneer receiver but with my ihome it doesnt charge it plays though, the cable should be at least a foot long so we can lay it next to our docking centers not hang them I think all of us iphone buyers should of got one of these with our purchase, letting us know how they work with different devices., I think every one that buys a new iPhone or ipod are going to be disappointed for awhile, because nothing will work the same as there older iphones and iPods I am. and the wost thing there are no docking stations or clock radios out for us to buy

    Useful for iPhone 5 Accessories

    • Written by from Nyack

    Positives:
The extension adapters most useful attribute is to allow usage with most any iPhone 5 case and my main reason for its purchase. All my accessories have recognized my iPhone 5 for use as well as charge it while docked. The lightning adapter end and cabling are manufactured thick and strong to withstand repeated use. The 30 pin side is not overly thick to allow easy fit and connection with multiple accessories. Works great with my alarm clock!!!

    Negatives:
The cable itself is fairly stiff and not very flexible so it won't physically support your iPhone 5 as to allow it to standup by itself without assistance. It's made just as long as most of all the other Apple (0.2m) adapters so not too excessive or bulky. While use with my car adapter has been achievable it seems to have created audio issues while transitioning from a call back to playing music. A quirk I am still looking into.

Apple has created another award winning and selling accessory for its new lightning adapter.

    Disappointment

    • Written by from Birmingham

The length of cable is too short; it needs to be at least 12 inches. I have a small clock radio designed for the 30-pin connector; though it is low, the iPhone 5 will not lie on surface without tension on cord.

The Lightning connector itself is too fragile to support upright mobile devices without breaking easily. Apple should have thought this change through more thoroughly.

It's too expensive for what you get. I could get a new clock radio designed for iPhone 5 for about what I paid for this cable.

    Overpriced but necessary.

    • Written by from Richmond

In a desperate moment where I couldn't find my charger and was at 10% battery I drove to the apple store and bought this. Just to confirm this adapter DOES work with my 2012 Nissan Versa iPod integration perfectly (steering wheel controls, in dash display, etc). It's good quality but $40 is awfully steep for something you're basically forced to purchase because you supported the company by buying their latest device, but what can you do?

Although overpriced, it works in my car

    • Written by from Boring

I bought this product so I can use it in my car. I have a Kensington 2 in 1 AUX cable with the 30 pin connector for the older generation iphones/ipods. Thankfully, this adapter worked with my current setup. Also I have a Belkin sheer iphone 5 case and the slot was just big enough for the lightning port to enter, so whew...

    Great Adapter! Ridiculously Priced!!!

    • Written by from Grande Cache

I bought the cable from Apple after trying a cheaper Chinese cable. The Chinese cable only charged my phone. I could not get it to play music through the cable. I use a JBL ON STAGE 400P. The Apple cable worked great. I cannot believe how Apple gouges customers for simple cables that are needed when THEY switched to the lightning plug. We as customers are held basically without any choice and Apple should reconsider the outrageous price that they ask for the necessary adapters that all consumers need. Hey! We already sink enough money into your many devices, so why not treat us fairly!?!?

The adapter cable from Apple works great!

    Apple disappoints (again)

    • Written by from PALMER

I would like to video out using my older AV composite cable (not cheap). This stupid adapter will not work for video out. So after upgrading to an iPhone 5 I am worse off than the 4s. JUNK JUNK JUNK. Don't expect video out with your old hardware accessories. Instead of just a phone upgrade plan on upgrading everything.

    Product that should be recalled

    • Written by from Chevy Chase

I regret to report, but I must concur with negative ratings for this product. I have iPhone 5s, and got the message that this cable is not a recognized product.

After reading all the negative reviews, I am surprised that this product is still available for sale and not recalled. Apple Geniuses were baffled at both stores I went to, and were unable to provide any explanation or fix for this problem. I have several older devices that I would like to use the adapter for, but at this time I guess it's not very likely.

Apple adapter not compatible with Apple phone?

    • Written by from Austin

Really? Bought this Lightning-to-30-pin cable adapter. Just inserted the lightning connector side, even before hooking the 30-in adapter side in, and immediately got a note on my phone screen saying, "This accessory does not work with this device." I couldn't use the stubby lightning-to-30-pin-adapter because--ready for this?--the Apple-made adapter wouldn't fit into the Apple-made case for my Apple-made phone. As I tried this more expensive accessory ($39. Yowza) and found it's not compatible. So, one doesn't fit, one isn't compatible. Sigh.
