Very poor, error message on iPhone 5S

    • Written by from Cheshire

I should have read the reviews first. What a wasted 60 minute drive to the Apple store. I immediately get "this accessory not supported by this device" when plugging just the adapter in. I figured I could live with a nag screen if I could just get audio out, but that isn't happening either.

I specifically went out of my way to get an Apple certified adapter so I would not get any error messages instead of getting a cheap one from Amazon. This is what I get. What a waste of time, fuel and mileage. At least my other Apple stuff works well. Too bad this piece of junk doesn't. And $40 plus tax too!!! What a rip.

    Disappointing

    • Written by from San Jose

Plugged it in to multiple devices that are supposed to be supported including a iPhone 5, 5s and a 5th gen iPod Touch. I get the same "Not Compatible with this device" message every time. Disappointing junk. Too bad I can't give 0 stars.

    Kia Sorento 2011 Compatible

    • Written by from Midlothian

Did some research for a product to convert the 30Pin to the 8pin. I have the new iPhone 5S and iPad with retina display. The iPhone has an otterbox case and I read from the reviews that the smaller converter would not fit or that the 8pin gets loose from the angle that the phone is at. I have a 2011 Kia Sorrento with the 30pin ipod cord that has a USB and Aux cable. I needed to make sure that this cord would be compatible with other non Apple products since Apple changed the algorithm in all their cords. I bought it yesterday and hooked it up. Works Great. Have not tried it on any Ipod Docks or any other locations except for my car. The price at $42 with tax is outrageous, but I couldn't handle listening to regular radio for 2 days straight when I drive at least 2-3 hours a day in the car.

Many of these are defective! Return your bad one and get one that works!

    • Written by from HOLMDEL

I purchased this adapter with an iPad Mini Retina. I got the "This accessory is not supported by this device." error message. I made a Genius Bar appointment, demonstrated the problem, and they replaced the adapter with one that works. The new one works perfectly with my Bose Sound Dock, camera & SD readers for older iPad, and other older 30-pin devices. Judging by the reviews, there are an awful lot of defective instances of this adapter! (If the first one had worked, it would have five stars.)

    Complete Garbage

    • Written by from APO

So, this thing shows up in the mail today in the same box as my 5S and I plug it in and get the message that this accessory is not compatible. That message comes up even with nothing plugged in to the dock. How does that make sense? I thought this cord was made for this phone. Im pretty sure that I bought this adapter because it was suggested at checkout. You better fix this Apple. Your reviews are looking bad for this one.

terrible, "upgrade" 8 pin rip off

    • Written by from Citrus Heights

The 8 pin conversion was and IS the worst thing Apple could have done to their iPhone. The little NIB comes loose (even on these $39 TOO EXPENSIVE ones) and have to be replaced. (Keep on buying another one). I'm sick and tired of paying for over priced pieces of doo doo. Do us a favor Apple, come up with something else or go back to the 30 pin. at least those cords work!!!!

    Was a 4 star before IOS 7

    • Written by from league city

THis now does not pass video. That isn't a hardware problem. It did before IOS 7 for both iPhone and iPad. Thanks Apple. This went from an overly expensive adapter that worked for charging, audio and video to something Apple now engineered into not working. Airplay is great at home, but that doesn't help for showing video on the road unless you want to carry your own Apple TV to set up a wireless connection.

*Some (most?) 30-pin accessories are not supported!

    • Written by from LOS ALTOS

Pay attention to that warning! The Lightning to 30-pin Adapter (MD823ZM/A) worked perfectly in terms of audio and charging for my auto application, but the base was too wide for my phone case. No problem, I ponied up $39 for this one with a short extension cable and a narrower lightning connector. Nice! But it doesn't work the same as the other adapter, I get the dreaded "This device is not supported" nag screen and no audio.

The MD823ZM/A adapter specifies that it supports analog audio output, USB audio, charging and syncing. This adaptor costs more, but does much less!

New iPhone 5s does not support this accessory

    • Written by from Kinderhook

I purchased a new iPhone 5s today and also purchased this cable so I could charge the new iPhone with the cables from my iPhone 4. It does not work at all and only produces a message that "Device does not support this accessory. I connected it to my MacBook Pro with a 30 pin USB cable that I purchased only a few weeks ago at an Apple Store and the MacBook did not recognize that anything was connected to it. Unclear is the problem is the cable or the iPhone. Running iOS7.04.

Worked only for a short time

    • Written by from Everett

I've had this cable for a year now, And quit playing audio about 4 months after I bought it. All it can do is charge my phone/ipad. Also $39 is way too much. Don't waste your time and money with this product.

    Doesn't work with iPad Air

    • Written by from Scituate

Apple said it was compatible with the iPad Air, but plugging it in gives a message "Not Compatible with this device" It is larger than the connecters that came with the iPad. Very disappointed! The 30 pin adapter also will not fit with the case on. Some product co-ordination needed here.

    Waste of time and unacceptable

    • Written by from Burlington

Spent 40 minutes in the Apple store today battling the crowds to get service on what adapter to buy. Ended up with this product and now on my way to return it. I wish I would have read these comments before going as it doesn't work for all the same reasons as stated by the many comments below, won't fit with a case, isn't compatible with BOSE sound dock etc etc. For such a "World Class" organization, I can't believe Apple is still selling this product.

    Expensive, but it works

    • Written by from Meridian

I bought this to connect my iPhone 5S to a USA Spec PA15-HON2 iPod/iPhone interface for my 2007 Honda Odyssey. The other Lightning to 30-pin adapter did not fit my iPhone case, but this cable works great, and all features I expected work correctly (audio, charging and steering wheel controls). Construction quality look to be top-notch, with a secure connection on both ends. While I don't mind paying extra for quality, the current price is still too high (thus, minus one star). Still, probably the only option available if you need to connect older devices to your Lightning device...

    Works perfectly - overpriced

    • Written by from Berkeley

We are using this with an iPad mini to get the analog audio line-out as well as charging it at the same time. We already had a 30-pin breakout cable.
It works perfectly. No issues at all.

Not sure why it needs to cost $30, or why other manufacturers can't make a similar product, but it's the only one I've been able to find that has a female 30-pin connector on a cable.

Doesn't fit with just about any case and intermittent performance

    • Written by from ST. ALBANS

Lightening connector is fatter than lightning charger and as a result cannot connect when case us fitted. Have tried 3 cases doesn't fit with any. The bottom edge if the phone needs to be completely uncovered for this to fit. Also a bit hit and miss when used to connect to my audio cable in the car find myself having to unplug and reinsert. Not very impressive and £35!! Standards are slipping at apple. Doesn't look like they think usability through like they used to, ios 7 now this, it's sad.

Worked as expected, but pricey even for Apple

    • Written by from Coral Springs

I bought this because I have a $400 Sony speaker dock that I love cause it has really good sound quality, but has a 30 pin dock connector that can't be swapped out with a lightning connector (thanks Sony). So rather than spend $300-$400 on a new dock, I figured I'd get this cable. To my surprise despite what people said on here I was able to control my iPhone (play, pause, next song, previous song, menu navigation) with my speaker dock remote which is great. The cable was a little shorter than I expected but works well. I didn't get the 29.99 adapter because I didn't want my iPhone's lightning port being stressed as it was standing on top of the dock and adapter and risk the lightning tip being snapped off in the port. So overall a great product, but over priced.
