I have been enjoying this accessory with all of my older iProducts. I forgot it was in my pants pocket and washed/dryed it. I was sure it was ruined. To my surprise it still works like new! Works great and evidently you can clean it with your clothes ;-)

I bought one of these to enable me to connect my new iPhone 5 to the 30-pin connector on my Sony clock radio dock. I have a very ordinary snap on case to protect my iPhone. Whoever designed this adapter forgot that most people protect their phones with cases. The lightening pin is much too short to accommodate the case, so it's a $29 piece of useless plastic for me. The cord version works fine, but is a less than elegant solution as I now have to find a way to rest my iPhone on the nightstand instead of it being properly propped up on the dock itself. Very poor design, Apple!

This works great with my otter box case! I use it on my car charger and stereo speakers.

I purchased the adapter to use with my Sony Dream Machine (not sure of the model, but it looks like the ICF-CS10iP so that might be it). It charged the device, which was good, but the audio was terrible, and also mono (I could hear the backup singers, but not the lead singer). If I tilted the phone a bit to the left on the adapter, it played in stereo, but it still sounded like garbage (and looked stupid too). Also, as others have mentioned, the phone sits perched on the tiny adapter, which angles slightly backward, with no support, so I worried about damaging the adapter, or much worse, the phone itself. If the adapter actually worked I would have solved that by making a shim out of foam or something, for the phone to lean on. (My next step is to try the corded adapter, which I'll review separately.) On a positive note, however, my iPhone case worked fine with this adapter. I have a Vineyard Vines case that is made by CaseMate and is very slim. The bottom of the case is almost entirely cut away, so all the ports are accessible.

Not if you have a case.

Functionally OK, no longer allowing me to play music in dock with screen off. Biggest issue: I must now take my case off to plug it into the music dock. Included charging cable fits fine in the case - if a future product iteration allowed 1/4 to 1/2 inch of cable-width extension it'd work.

Works fine w/ iSkin Claro case, on iPhone5. A little pricey, in my opinion.

Works with my iPad mini and iPhone 5 including with cases on (both Marware and Casemate cases). Would rate it a 5 star if it wasn't so expensive.

    Connection not long enough

I would have no problem giving this a 5 star rating if the adapter would work with a case on the phone. So far I have used an inexpensive CaseCrown Lux Glider and the Tech-21 Impact Mesh and neither supports the 30 pin to lightning adapter for the dock or older version cable. If Apple would fix this issue and be willing to replace the two adapters I already own, I would gladly give it 5 stars!!

We have four iPhones in our family, each with a different case from a different manufacturer. This adapter did not work with any of them.
    Buyer Beware!

Problem with Adapter and MBZ S550

Interesting: 30 pin works fine in 2013 MBZ S550 with old iPod. 8 pin Adapter shuts down about every 30 seconds and recycles with iPodTouch. Any clue if this is an adapter issue or an MBZ issue or even a a Touch issue?

The material just before the pin is so wide that it won't make the connection with the hard shell case I have for my iPhone. I would have to remove/replace the case every time -- what a pain.

They should have made the Pin longer so if your phone is in a case, it still can make the connection.

I have no problem with the one that came with the i5 but now I have to carry that one everywhere to get a charge. I wanted to use the adapter on my iMac connection as an alternate.

Save your $$ and just use the one that came with the original packaging.

I have had this product for 3 months now and I love it. I didn't have to buy a new docking station for my iPod ^_^ saved me some money buying this instead. plus when i want to get a new charger i don't have to pick and choose, I can get the one I like. It works just like it should. My charger works better with the adaptor than it did with out it. And it not fitting with a case that is normal with any charger or adaptor.

Lack of "truth in advertising" case

Because I cannot submit this review with no star, so I have to give it 1 star. This adapter is totally useless. In the Apple Store ad it says " intelligent and ultracompact adapter to connect your 30-pin accessories to devices featuring the Lightning connector", but it does not say it does not work with any video accessories. Is this what Apple means by "intelligent"? I just wasted $29 for this useless adapter because I can only it for charging with an old 30-pin charger cable. What a joke! I love Apple products in general, but this one I should call it a shame!

Nice adapter, but poor decision in the first place.

I dislike apple's switch, primarily because of the purely digital signal coming from their new connector. I really wish they just would have stuck with the 30 pin, although significantly larger.

But, the adapter. It is sturdy however not too visually appealing. On the device it looks like a growth. However it works and is much needed. As for the expense, considering it sports a Wolfson DAC and solid Apple branded construction, it is not as overpriced as many people claim it is.

    Will not work for video

I have a 30 pin to RCA A/V cable to can hook up the iPad/iPhone to the video system in our car and on older TV's. This cable worked great with our older iPad and iPhone that used the 30 pin connector. Now that we have upgraded to new devices, this lightning to 30 pin adaptor will not work for video. All we get is audio and no picture.

    Useable, but irritating

It works perfectly well, but doesn't fit with a number of cases. Many iPhone 5 cases have pieces across the bottom so the wide adapter doesn't fit. I only have it in my car so its bearable, I just have to remove my case while I use it. Had I known beforehand I would have gotten the cord adapter. I recommend getting it instead if you plan on using it very often. Its $10 more, but I think worth not having to deal with your case every time you plug it in.

    Flawed Design

It does the job of converting well. It's disappointing that it cannot be used with even the most slim of cases on the iPhone 5 so you must remove your case to charge, which is cumbersome. It's particularly disappointing considering the standard charger that comes with the iPhone 5 is able to connect with a case still on the phone so they just didn't follow through when they designed this adapter.
