I bought the adapter when I upgraded from iPhone 4. I have 6 30 pin Cables so I chose to go with the adapter. The adapter works perfect with the Case I have.

Used in a M-B GL350 to connect my iPhone5 to the sound system without any problem. Used to connect to a Memorex clock radio again without any problem.

Love it! I have a new VW GTI which came with the 10 pin cable. So when I got my iPhone 5 the only way I could play my music was AD2P (Bluetooth stereo) however, that can become a problem when the battery is running low since I tend to rarely use satellite anymore and Spotify as my main music source.

People have posted it will not work if you have a case and at first that would be correct. I also purchased a Outter Box case and this would be true at first. But with minor mortification (using a nail file to widen the opening) it now hooks in anytime I need to attach it in my vehicle.

    Love it!

It works very well. The only downside is the $30 cost. Other than that it works just fine!

I bought this adaptor because I had 4, 30-pin cables already when I got my iPhone 5. This adaptor works exactly as needed. Allows me to sync to my desktop, charge with the wall outlet and control the iPhone via my car steering wheel controls through the USB port. I also have a Griffin black snap case on my phone and it does not block the adaptor. Saved me the trouble of wasting the old wires. Only problem is the price tag, it's about as big as a quarter and cost about $35 after taxes. Other than that it works perfectly.

Pros: Charges very quickly. I like that the plug is smaller. I always felt the other one was too big even from the first time I purchased an iphone in 2009.

Cons: Length of cable. I always thought they were too short anyway. Price: It's an apple product... they're overpriced in EVERYTHING.

Comment: To those who blame the cable for not fitting with a phone-case.. How about blaming the case instead? The adapter is about as thin as it needs to be. It's the case-manufacturer who needs to work around the cable, not the other way around.

    Bose sounddock

Do not get this if you're using iphone 5 to any Bose Sounddock. I too was told this by BOSE. Get the CABLE! As people note, a case is a issue, it sits to high on sounddock and backwards. Bad idea Apple. GET THE MORE EXPENSIVE CORD!

    Compact but major design flaw

I like how small it is compared to carrying a long cable around but I am very disappointed that it is incompatible with my Speck Candyshell (or nearly any protective case that covers the bottom of your iPhone 5). The lightning portion is just too short to work with my case. I think I'm going to see about exchanging for the cable version which at least has a smaller lightning portion

This adapter should've came with the iphone 5. It worked well with my USA SPEC PA15-ACUxl ipod integration kit for my Acura TL

    3 stars for costing $30!

Only works with device facing backwards. Doesn't allow charging.

My stepmother and I both have the same problem with this. She has an iPhone 4s and I have a 7th-generation iPod nano. With two different adapters and two different Bose docking systems, we each can only reliably get this to work with our devices facing backwards! Occasionally, if we're lucky, it will work for a while with the device facing forward. It's weird, because I thought the great thing about the lightning adapter was that it was symmetrical. For the price, I'd hoped this would work right.

Further, the Bose docking station will not charge our devices using this adapter. Geez, Apple! Whatever happened to "it just works"?

The adapter worked fine with my docking station, it is just very big and makes the phone stick out of the dock quite a bit. I don't know why it couldn't be made any smaller.

Like what was mentioned in the earlier reviews here, it won't work with any type of Iphone case. Also the worst part is, it has compatibility issues with my JBL Onbeat Xtreme and Harman Kardon Go+Play II. So now, the only way for me to play them is through Aux cable or bluetooth.... I wasted money here......

Previously attempted to purchase an aftermarket substitute for the lightning adapter for the 30-pin plug for my trucks radio. Those products weren't recognized by the radio or my iPhone 5, but did provide charging and data transfer into a computer.

After being unsuccessful with the cheaper option I decided to try the Apple branded lightning to 30-pin adapter. Without much expectation, it worked well beyond my expectation! The radio and iPhone instantly recognized the device providing a charge to my iPhone. An audio signal was provided from my iPhone to the radio and the radio controls worked for pausing songs, changing tracks, as well as rewinding and fast-forwarding (just like before the adapter using my previous iPhone 3G and 4.

The adapter itself seems expensive, but it WORKS! I do not rest my iPhone right side up resting on the adapter for fear of the adapter breaking in the lightning port.

I purchased this to mainly intergrate with my car stereo. It does what it's supposed to, and stays firmly in place. Its a high quality product. I have an Otter Box case, and like many the adapter did not fit correctly. It wasn't really a big deal. I used my Dremel and enlarged the opening just a bit. Now the adapter fits perfectly. I would have given it five stars, but I think it's a bit over priced.

Bought a cheaper one on the web and didn't work at all (got my money back). Bought this at an Apple Store and works perfectly in my 2010 BMW. Have not tried it on other products as this is the only one I needed it for.

Thin design! Don't have to remove my iphone 5 cover that I bought from Snapfish. Works on both my Philips alarm clock, AND my BOSE speaker system. Very pleased. Just pricey!

I just upgraded from an iPhone 4 to a 5.
I own a Bose Sounddock (from 7 years ago)- adapter works on it and can use my 5 to play music on it now.
I own an Apple iPhone 4 dock- adapter works on it and I can still use it to charge my iPhone 5.
My case is a SKECH and I do have to remove the bottom part but that is why SKECH cases rock because there is a bottom part to remove easily.
Adapter work, works just fine, good buy for these type of items.
But should be 19.99 at most.
