    works fine

I use this with my new iPod in my very old Bose docking system. Works perfect, though looks a bit odd.

    Don't bother

I purchased the adapter to use with my Sony Dream Machine (not sure of the model, but it looks like the ICF-CS10iP so that might be it). It charged the device, which was good, but the audio was terrible, and also mono (I could hear the backup singers, but not the lead singer). If I tilted the phone a bit to the left on the adapter, it played in stereo, but it still sounded like garbage (and looked stupid too). Also, as others have mentioned, the phone sits perched on the tiny adapter, which angles slightly backward, with no support, so I worried about damaging the adapter, or much worse, the phone itself. If the adapter actually worked I would have solved that by making a shim out of foam or something, for the phone to lean on. (My next step is to try the corded adapter, which I'll review separately.) On a positive note, however, my iPhone case worked fine with this adapter. I have a Vineyard Vines case that is made by CaseMate and is very slim. The bottom of the case is almost entirely cut away, so all the ports are accessible.

This thing works even with a case!

I just bough this to keep my 30 pin iPod cable in my car. Not trying to give Otterbox free advertising, but I have the Defender series box and I can use this adapter just fine. In short, get this Otterbox, and keep your iPhone looking like new and use your 30-pin Adapter!

    connect iphone 5 to Mercedes cars (C350, 2009) and SUV (GL450, 2008)

    • Written by from ALPHARETTA

I have purchased apple Lightening to 30-pin adapter and attached to 30 pin connector (GL450) and it relays music without any problem. However, it is not charging the phone. When I connected using Scosche passport and apple Lightening to 30-pin adapter. It plays outstanding music and charges the phone simultaneously. Therefore, for those who want to use rightaway, please follow the above method. It also worked in Mercedes C350 car.

    Nice product!

    • Written by from Chula Vista

I purchased this to mainly intergrate with my car stereo. It does what it's supposed to, and stays firmly in place. Its a high quality product. I have an Otter Box case, and like many the adapter did not fit correctly. It wasn't really a big deal. I used my Dremel and enlarged the opening just a bit. Now the adapter fits perfectly. I would have given it five stars, but I think it's a bit over priced.

    Doesn't work in 2006 Mazda 6

    • Written by from Wauwatosa

I had hoped that I could still use my iPhone 5 with the 30-pin cable in the stereo of my 2006 Mazda 6. Alas, it would neither charge nor play music through the car stereo like it should. Waste of time and money.

Works with Ringke Case and iHome iA-100 dock

    • Written by from San Francisco

This little adapter (tinier than I expected) works well with the Ringke Slim case (which is very thin and doesn't cover the iPhone loudspeakers).
I'm using it with my iHome iA-100 audio dock, which I bought previously for my 4S.
The adapter works very well for all functions: charging, audio, and the clock/radio controls with the iSet App.
Obviously with the adapter the iPhone isn't anymore in contact with the dock, and is strangely perched; also the white color of the adapter feels odd between the black of the iPhone and the black of the dock.

    Buy the cord adapter instead

    • Written by from Delta

I bought it primarily to connect my iphone5 into my cars iphone adapter. You have to remove the case at the bottom in order for it to work.

    Ipod unsupported

    • Written by

When using this adapter the iPod is unsupported unlike the demo adapters in the store. This adapter need a support of some type to steady the iPod . BTW...I've seen adapters in the stores broken off at the lightening connector. I agree with other writers that the better option is to use the adapter with the cable although this negates the opportunity to use the neat iPod dock of your device

No audio out, doesn't fit through case

    • Written by from Sandy

No audio out on my Griffin iTrip in my car. No audio out on my RCA speaker dock. I have a slim Otterbox case and the adaptor won't fit unless I take the hard shell off. For a company that became famous for sleek, user-friendly design, this is a real clunker.

    Adapter is useless

    • Written by from Oakland

Just received this device and applied for return to Apple. Device is essentially useless. Fits so loosely in the iPhone that it does not make contact to sync or charge the phone and almost falls out if you hold the phone vertically. Not characteristic of Apple quality at all... surprised and disappointed.

Not if you have a case.

    • Written by from Anacortes

Functionally OK, no longer allowing me to play music in dock with screen off. Biggest issue: I must now take my case off to plug it into the music dock. Included charging cable fits fine in the case - if a future product iteration allowed 1/4 to 1/2 inch of cable-width extension it'd work.

Worked for a while in my Mercedes...Does not work now!

    • Written by from Jackson

This plug worked fine in my car for a couple of weeks...now when I plug it up all I get is SILENCE!!! Apple should not have changed the chargers/adapters/connections! This is really upsetting that I purchased a phone that is now useless for playing music in my car.

    No Video

    • Written by from KOROPI

I have an iPhone 4 and now an iPad mini, bought this to connect the mini to the Apple Composite Cable that is connected to my home stereo. Disappointed to find out that this connector does not have Video capability meaning I now cannot watch content on my iPad mini to my stereo or TV.

Come on Apple, it should "just work". I would like to hear the reasoning behind leaving video out from its features...

Apart from this, all other functions work fine

    Case & Adapter for 5

    • Written by from attica

    Hello IPhone 5 peeps!

I have an Otterbox case for my 5 and the official charger adapter "thingy" fits fine, charges fine and works with my iHome speakers. I have the case on 100% of the time.

Hope this helps! LOVE all my Apple products including our new mini IPad!

    Best of luck !,,

Is the only adapter that works with old car factory 30 Pins

    • Written by from Miami

The cord did not allowed me to listen to my music on the car, this adapter does, had to cut my Candyshell Specks case. Hopefully the case manufactures correct their designs.

Lightning adapter poorly designed with misleading title.

    • Written by from Melrose

Just bought a lightning adapter for my new ipod touch.
This is possibly the worst designed Apple product I've ever owned. It certainly is not up to Apple's standards!
As others have said, does not work with a case on my ipod, nor does it work with my camera adapter!
Other than previous power cables, I can't find any accessory it works with.
Apple, you should be ashamed of yourselves!
The accurate name should be "Lightning to 30-pin cable adapter".

Will not fit if you have a iphone case

    • Written by from PARK RIDGE

This adapter is useless if you have your iphone in a case. Get the lightning to 30 pin adapter cord instead. Worth the extra money to not have to take your phone out of the case every time you need to connect it to a 30 pin accessory or cord.

Does NOT work with JBL 200iD docking station

    • Written by from New Orleans

As above, doesn't work with the JBL docking station. Just no sound whatsoever. If you use the headphone out and plug it into the headphone jack of the docking station, then it works, but forget about using he Lightning to 30-pin adapter. It just doesn't work, My wife's older iPod Nano with the 30-pin output works fine. Mine? Nada.

On top of this, even when I use the adapter to charge my iPod off the computer, it takes a few minutes for the laptop to even recognize the iPod is connected. Overall I am disappointed in this product and I agree that it costs far too much for what it is.

    Good for iPad, iPad mini

    • Written by from KAUKAUNA

We have two iPod touches (5th gen), an iPad (4th gen), an iPod nano (7th gen), and an iPad mini. This works great with the iPad and iPad mini. It is not case friendly with the iPods. If you would like something case friendly, look at the cable version. I use it a lot, seeing as the Lightning connector just came out. My iPad mini is the one I use it with the most. It syncs and charges. I gave it four stars because it is not case friendly with the iPhone 5 and the Lightning iPod lineup. I hope you found this review helpful.
