    Don't waste your money.

    • Written by from Canyon Country

I purchased one of these and didn't think about the design until I got it home and put it on the docking station. I tried to plug my Iphone6 in but it wouldn't fit. Yes, I had a case on the phone and the lightning plug is too short. You would think that apple would have tested this but I guess not. Good idea but not functional.

Using this on a dock. Doesn't work after 5 weeks.

    • Written by from Gig Harbor

The remote control dock is 30 pin and requires the adapter for my ipod. It was working great for about five weeks. Now the audio will only come out of the ipod and not the dock. I tried a different ipod with the same results. Apple will not take it back. Warrantee must have been for 30 days. :(

    Too bulky

    • Written by from Flushing

I bought this adaptor because I didn't want to spend a small fortune buying additional accessories for my new iPhone. I'm glad I only bought one, because it does not fit the Otterbox my phone lives in. I can't even properly review it, because I can't use it at all unless I take my phone out of the case, and I'm not doing that.

The lightning cord is too short to connect if you have a case (any case)

    • Written by from Houston

Like 250+ people, I have found this to not fit into my phone if it has a case on it. I have an Otterbox, a slim-fit Luvvitt, and a rubber Kate Spade case, the lightning connector will not fit into any of them (the Otterbox and Luvvitt being the worst fit). For the record, though the width of the pin is 1/4", the width of the case is 1", so any case that has an adaptor opening of less than 1" will prevent the lightning pin from securely fitting into your phone.

If you don't mind taking the cover off your phone every time you need to connect it, then this isn't a big deal - I don't like to do that, so I'm going to return this.

    Questionable Usage

    • Written by from Houston

What's wrong: If you have a case for your iDevice, it most likely won't fit unless the case is super thin.
Adapter or lightning cable: The price for the adaptor is $29. The price for a lightning cable (1m) is only $19. But you may also need an extra USB power adapter which costs also $19. So why get this adaptor? It only makes sense if you cannot or do not want to switch cables and access the power adaptor (since it may be hidden behind your desk) all the time. I'd rather suggest to get an extra lightning cable and invest in an additional power adaptor (total $38). It's worth the extra $9. You will be much happier!
If the lightning bit were sticking out just a little bit more, it would not be a problem with the cases at all. Not really a practical design.

Does not work with iphone 6

    • Written by from New Westminster

I just upgraded from an iPhone 4S to an iPhone 6. Both my car (brand new 2014 VW Passat) and my speakers have the 30 pin connector, both of which not only playedmy iPhone 4S but charged it too. I bought the adapter so I could connect my new iPhone 6 into both of these devices. As soon as I plugged it in (once I took my phone out of the case because the lightning end is too short), I got the following error message, "This cable or accessory is not certified and may not work reliably with this iPhone." No only does it not work unreliably, it doesn't work at all!!!. I spent $35 for each one (bought 2) and the guy at the Apple store obviously didn't know they wouldn't work because I told him exactly why I was purchasing them and he said it was a great idea. I will be taking them back. Come on Apple, don't just upgrade your computers and phones, upgrade the devices you sell to use with them that have your brand name attached to them!!

    Thoughtless design & expensive!

Does not work with a case. Taking my phone out of it's case every time i need to use this is time consuming and potentially dangerous.... a $32.00 piece of junk!

    Simple and Easy

The only reason I bought this product was to connect it to my y cable in my BMW so I can play my music and control the playback through my iDrive. Works for what I needed it for. No problems.

Works great for me, so bought 4

    • Written by from Fountain Valley

Works in all contexts I throw at it. Music, charging, etc. I have charging station at home & work, and use it for connecting to my base/holder in my car. Because of this adapter, I didnt have to pull my dash apart and run a new lightening cable. Fantastic. Also stays snug and isn't annoying in any way. I actually like using this versus an OEM lightening cable, because its wider instead of narrow, and much easier to work with quickly. Yes expensive, but worth price of admission for me, it flat-out works. Also using this & keeping the 30-pin on tap at all stations gives the flexibility to charge the pre-lightening interface devices that I own, and if friends come over.

Does not work with any kind of case

    • Written by from Amherst

Bought one because it's $10 less than the one with the cord, but now it won't work with my case. So guess I'll be returning this one and paying even more for the one with the cord.

    silly reviews. this works great

    • Written by from Danville

This adapter does exactly what it needs to. If you're worried about your case breaking by having to pull of the bottom corners to be able to plug in the adapter, you need to get a better case. I keep this adapter in my purse and use it whenever needed, mostly in the car or at work. I have the original charger at home. Buying another one for my fiance to use with his 6

easily the WORST apple product ive bought

    • Written by from Dakota Dunes

to begin things off $30 is a little steep for this small adapter, especially when it doesn't even work half of the time. Many people complain about it not fitting while they have a case on their phone. I have the otterbox defender for the 5c and it fits perfectly with the case on. However this accessory STINKS! i can not even plug in my phone to an iphone dock without getting the "accessory not supported" popping up. This is ridiculous if you're going to charge this much at least make a product that works

    iPhone 4-5 adapter

I went out today and bought the 30 pin to the lightning adapter. Do not buy if you have a case on your device. It only works if your phone does not have a case.

    Lightning Adapter stinks

    • Written by from Cincinnati

Hey Apple. It's been two years, don't you think it is time you listened to the reviews and released a decent 30-pin to lightning adapter. I have two of these that I shaved down with an exacto blade so they would work with my kids cases, but this is unsightly and is hardly what I expect from a company known for it's industrial design. If I wanted to modify stuff myself, I would just buy from Microsoft or Samsung. Maybe it is time I did.

    Works fine for me

    • Written by from Houston

I read all the reviews of this product before I bought it from the Apple store. I had a radio/speaker/dock for my iPhone 4s. When I traded up to the iPhone 5s the converter that came with the radio allowed the speakers to work but did not recharge the phone. This converter does both and is the perfect solution for me. The nice thing is I was told I could bring it back if it didn't work. So I think the solution may come on a case by case basis.

    Nimrod design

    • Written by from Miami

Who ever was the nincompoop who designed and moron who approved this should be fired! Nano has Lightning input plug offset to one side, Adapter has the plug dead center??? Put the two together and it looks like ship. Do the two departments not work together?? In this day and age with this tech giant, they can't hire people with a little more common sense??? Totally ridicules besides the fact that you cant use with some or all protective covers?? Are protective covers new?? Pathetic!

I have been using this adapter to charge my phone and it has worked well for me. It will transmit audio but will not transmit video. Obviously the price is a bit painful.
