The adapter can work perfectly, however, it will not work with most cases. If you would prefer it to work..... please read. The adapter must be able to sit flush against your phone for the lightning plug to reach the phone. Many iphone 5 cases have an opening just large enough for the lightning port to fit flush against the phone. You need an opening large enough so that it will allow your old 30-pin connector to sit flush against your phone. Open ended, snap-on cases, like the Incase Snap Case, will work perfectly.

Like the other reviews, if you have any case on your phone (including a bumper) this will not work.

Why would you even create this form factor when clearly most people use a case for their iPhones (at least most people who want to protect their investment)? SMH. I love you Apple, but your money grabs are irksome.

I love the new lightning connector - much easier to use. This adaptor however has its problems. First the price seems quite outrageous. Second the design isn't that flexible. It seems designed primarily to SUPPORT the iPhone in 30 pin docks. The down side of this is that (1) it covers the speakers quite a bit (2) it will not work with a bumper. Many bumpers for the iPhone 5 are difficult to remove as they have backs - needed because of the many cutouts on the bottom of the phone. I got the adaptor to work with my bumper by trimming the white plastic back about 2 mm to the metal casing using a Swiss Army penknife (wood saw & metal file).

To those giving negative reviews because it doesn't work with a case that doesn't make it a terrible product it just don't work with a case. Works great, no video or iPod out obviously, but it still works with displaying album art on my car stereo which I was happy about. If you have a case get the cable version. Wish the would have been ready an in stock at launch.

I use this with my new iPod in my very old Bose docking system. Works perfect, though looks a bit odd.

I am very disappointed with this product. I knew there might be an issue with it working with various accessories. I have a Sony Dream machine that I have used with my iPhone 3gs and was very excited when this adapter finally came in. It works fine with the radio, however, it won't work with my iPhone with a case. I have a very minimalist case and don't want to take it off every night. I like to charge my phone overnight but still have it near me. Does anyone know if I can return this to the store even though I ordered it online? Thanks

I like that I have the option of the adapter, the down side is that it doesn't fit through my case like the cable does. Had I realized this prior to purchase I would have bought another cable instead of 2 adapters. It would be nice if the adapter was modified to be able to fit through a case.

I purchased the adapter to use with my Sony Dream Machine (not sure of the model, but it looks like the ICF-CS10iP so that might be it). It charged the device, which was good, but the audio was terrible, and also mono (I could hear the backup singers, but not the lead singer). If I tilted the phone a bit to the left on the adapter, it played in stereo, but it still sounded like garbage (and looked stupid too). Also, as others have mentioned, the phone sits perched on the tiny adapter, which angles slightly backward, with no support, so I worried about damaging the adapter, or much worse, the phone itself. If the adapter actually worked I would have solved that by making a shim out of foam or something, for the phone to lean on. (My next step is to try the corded adapter, which I'll review separately.) On a positive note, however, my iPhone case worked fine with this adapter. I have a Vineyard Vines case that is made by CaseMate and is very slim. The bottom of the case is almost entirely cut away, so all the ports are accessible.

Of course there are gonna be folks who just want to complain and go out of their way to say something negative about this product and all I have to say is don't listen to them OK.This product clearly said it did not stream video if you would've read that before you ordered it OK. For the price of $29.99 I am perfectly happy with it and it snaps on the end of my existing 30 pin adapter and it is tiny so it hardly takes up any space in my compartment in my 2012 cC300 Mercedes and I have no complaints .For some folks like me all I need is the adapter because I have the existing harness that connects to the car already .
