    Incompatible with Apple's own products

    • Written by from London

I've just spent a ridiculous $100 + taxes on three cables, a lightning to 30 pin adapter at $30, a USB adapter at $30 and a 30 pin HDMI adapter at $40, assuming the combination would allow me to connect an iPhone 5, an ipad 4 and a 30 pin ipad to a variety of peripherals. As soon as you connect two Apple cables together you get an "incompatible" message, which is frankly a disgrace. This means you have to buy multiple, separate cables at huge expense for each device to even stand a chance of getting them to work with the same peripherals. Judging from other posts, even this won't provide full functionality on many of them. Sort it out quickly Apple, the competition are catching up and overtaking fast.

Will not work with the iPhone 5c case

    • Written by from Conyers

I bought the lighting adapter and the Apple iPhone case (made specifically for the iPhone 5C) for my iPhone 5C. I assumed there would be no problem, since I bought an Apple product directly from Apple. However, when you put the adapter on your 30pin cable and then plug it into the iPhone 5c with the case on, the connector is not long enough and will not charge the phone. You must take the case off the iPhone for the adapter to fit. This is crazy, so I will be returning the adapters and maybe the case as well.

    Rubbish

    • Written by from London

I bought this so I could still use my 10 year old (but perfectly functioning) Bose sound dock with the Nano I had to buy when my 10 year old classic iPod was stolen from my house as I slept.
Although it plays the music OK, it no longer charges the iPod while it's on the dock, so that's an end to music at parties after a couple of hours then.
I don't care what Apple says, they don't have the right to remove functionality in this way.

    Apple oversight...

    • Written by from Monterey

You'd think that Apple would have at least thought to make this adaptor work with devices in cases of their own design and manufacture. Sadly, that's not the case. I have the new iPad Air, with Apple's own leather cover, and the lightning end of this adaptor is not long enough to go through the opening in the cover to reach the device. This adaptor is useless, unless you don't mind removing your device from its cover every time you need to charge or sync. Is this kind of inattention to detail what we'll be seeing from Apple in the future? SJ would roll over...

Ok, you need to destroy case for your device to make it work. Official apple's case, btw. Truly sick development /=

    case woes

    • Written by from Billerica

Wish I'd looked here before buying two adaptors for our two new 5Ss. Totally useless with a case on, even Apple's case. I saw some mention of a cord style adaptor. Wish the Apple employees that sold me the phones would have mentioned this (bought both at an Apple store).

Doesn't work with iPhone 5s case

    • Written by from River Forest

If you have an Apple case, do not buy this product. It looks like it would work just fine with the corded lightning to 30 pin adapter, but this one will not plug in to your phone while the Apple case is on it.

If you have a case it will not connect correctly. It also does not support video, so your 30pin to HDMI adapter does not function.

    Should have read the reviews

    • Written by from Orlando

Already upset I had to buy this so my phone would work with all the accessories I've bought over the years. Even more upset to get all the way home and find out it wont reach past my case to actually use it.

No audio for the 7th Gen iPod! Buyer Beware!

    • Written by from APO

Since the update to the iOS, this pin and the cord/extender no longer work. It will charge my iPod, but no audio. I get the 'unsupported device' error message most of the time, but even when I don't, I still have no audio.
I have many 30-pin USB cords and my portable speakers are 30-pin. I needed an adapter so I could continue to use what I already possessed, so I purchased 2 adapters and a dock extender. ALL of them stopped working! This is not a coincidence. And like other reviews, the placement of the pin makes the iPod stick out to the side (offset/off-center) which means it won't fit in many docks, which was why I purchased the extender cord. Now nothing works! As much money as these things cost, they should work!!! I'm really ticked off because of this. I can only use that iPod in my car now using the audio jack. Thanks for nothing Apple!

    • Written by from Bayside

I have a tech21 case and have to keep removing the case to use this connector. This defeats the purpose of having a case! The sales person by the accessories assured me that it would fit this case. Needless to say, its going back today! Buyer beware!

Can't play 7th gen Nano on any of my docks

    • Written by from Edmonton

I received a 7th generation Nano as a gift, and was looking forward to replacing my 5th generation one. I was disappointed to find that it had the "lightning" input instead of the old 30 pin, and I'd have to shell out more money to be able to listen to music through my docks. A bit of a rip-off, but I love my music so I bought this adapter. I have 3 different docks (that worked beautifully with my old ipod), and this thing won't work with any of them. With one, an "accessory not supported" message shows on the ipod screen, with the second, nothing at all happens, and with the third, the ipod won't physically fit in the space because the adapter causes it to stick out sideways compared to how the old one would sit. A big waste of money. I'm kicking myself for letting the old ipod go. I should have stuck to what worked.

    Not useful

    • Written by from New York

I was really disappointed with the use cases for this adapter. Pretty much just for syncing. I tried to use it with my video/projector 30 pin cable for a keynote presentation (no audio or video). So very limited. The real clincher was when I connected it to my iPad Air a warning came up "This accessory not compatible" - their own product was rejected by their own product - therein lies the answer.

Adapter does not work with 5C iphone case

    • Written by from Bellerose

You would think since Apple made the case, the phone and the adapter that they would all work together. This adapter does not fit if you use the 5C Apple case. When I called Apple to complain, they sounded surprised. Go figure. Apple makes great products, but they did not think this one through. If you need an adapter, go with the one with the cord. That works fine.

NANO 7TH GEN NOT FOR BOSE DOCKING STATION

    • Written by from Upper Nyack

So I bought a iPOD NANO 7th Gen. since my iPOD 2nd Gen. died and had to buy a $29 Lightning 30 pin adapter for my Bose Docking station, at first it worked for 5mins then it stopped working. Got back in my car, thinking it was damaged, to drive another 1hr round trip to exchange it for the $39 Lightning and it still did not work. Thought I damaged the Docking station but then noticed all of the bad reviews about docking station fails I will be getting back into my car to return this piece of carp, not sure if there is an alternative. Extremely expensive as well!

Never worked straight out of the box. Message pops up instantly saying this device is not supported. Can't wrap my head around that because I bought it right from the apple store and the associate recommended it to me.

HORRIBLE DESIGN, DOES NOT WORK WITH ANY CASE

    • Written by from Sacramento

If I could rate zero I would. This adaptor does NOT work with any case on the iPhone 5. Question: Why design an adaptor that only functions with the case off? Answer: Stupidity and lack of attention to detail.

Not only did Apple design an iOS (iPhone 4) that would intentionally not work, creating the need to "upgrade" to a newer iPhone, but now an entire new set of car chargers, wall chargers, adaptors, you name it.. are all REQUIRED with the new models. How convenient! Let's take the customer for another set of expenses right!

This adaptor as well as the longer cord adaptor that's essentially the same thing, BOTH do not work when your phone has a case on it.

    TOTALLY UTTERLY WORTHLESS!!!

    Time for a Droid!
