Problem with case and pin breaks quickly

    • Written by from khobar

I bought it but had to remove my case each time then bought thin case but still have to leave the cover open. After few times use the pin got loose from the socket and never worked again.
You need one with short cable rather such direct pin on the socket!
    Bad design!!

Adapter collides with Apple's own iPhone 5c case

    • Written by from Arvada

I bought this part to adapt my Nissan's 30 pin iPod audio system cable, which Nissan hasn't updated for Lightning. Works fine without the case, but Apple's own 5c case prevents the Lightning connection from snapping into place. My understanding is that non-Apple Lightning to 30 pin adapters do not pass audio, so it's very irritating to be having this issue with apparently no recourse. An inch of cable between the two connections would solve the problem! An unfortunate design oversight.

    Needs refinement

    • Written by from Little Ferry

This adapter works great, but Apple blew the physical design. As others have stated, it doesn't work with the vast majority of cases. All they had to do was to chamfer/bevel the lightning end of it so that the plug emulated the lightning cable's male end. If they had, this adapter would work with most cases. As it is, the long flat surface offers very little real support anyway - it only limits side-to-side movement and not front-to-back.

The cable type adapter is a much smarter buy. Apple should make the price for that adapter the same as for this item and they would suffer much less criticism. Lord knows, it can't be more than a dollar difference to make it and I'm sure that the profit for both is quite high.

    Breaks too easily

    • Written by from Studio City

Cheap metal.....The tip of the lightning adapter bends and breaks too easily...mine snapped right off inside my iPad....fortunately there was a small bit sticking out so I could pull it out with tweezer, but I would never buy again.

Does Not Work With Any iPhone Case

    • Written by from Oak Park

This adaptor needs to fit flush against the bottom of the phone, which means if you have a case, you need to remove it, and that can be difficult (especially with Apple's own leather iPhone 5s cases). Get a cord adaptor instead. You need a thin plug if you have a case. Otherwise, I am sure these work just fine.

APPLE 30 pin adapter, DOES NOT FIT with the case on, the adapter’s lighting end does not reach the connection on the phone. Forcing me to replace all my 30-pin cables. Have a few.

The Apple adapter doesn't even work with the Apple case? Well that makes as little sense as possible. I tried to buy a knockoff version of the adapter...$10 at a local electronics store...unfortunately all it does is charge my phone and doesn't allow transmission of audio. But even the cheap knockoff version fit in my phone with my apple case on. I bought the $30 lightning adapter from the Apple store the other day (bought the case a week prior) and figured I was good to go....nope! The lightning adapter WILL NOT WORK WITH APPLE'S OWN FABULOUS CASE! I really do like this case, but after $70 of investment ($30 each for the case and phone and $10 for the knockoff adapter), I still don't have a working adapter in my car. Come on, Apple, get it together!!

    Doesn't work with a case

    • Written by from Marina Del Rey

What a terrible adaptor. It is too wide to plug in with almost any type of case. WHY? The lightning adaptor itself that comes on the charging cable is small and fits fine, why can't this? Really makes this thing too much hassle to be worth it.

Problem with adapter to adapter connections.

    • Written by from Sandy

I have a 30 pin to HDTV connection I use to display movies on my TV. When I connect the lightning to 30-pin adapter from the iPhone to the 30-pin to hdtv adapter the iPhone says that it is not supported. Not cool.

Doesn't Work with iPad Air Case

    • Written by from Beaverton

I find it really odd that a genuine Apple Lightning adapter does not work with the new iPad Air case. Both are official Apple products bought directly from Apple, but they're not compatible. Kind of ridiculous that something as obvious as compatibility and functionality were missed when designing and manufacturing these products.

    $30+ tax wasted

    • Written by from san francisco

You would think that the braintrust in Cupertino could have figured this one out: If you have a case on your iPhone, you can't use the adapter since the opening in the case is too narrow and the adapter too wide. This could have so easily been resolved by making the lightning tab longer, but that wouldnt look neat & tidy if you're not using a case; or the adapter could have been wedge-shaped so that the Lightining end was no larger than the end on the charging cord, but that would be counter to Apple's rectilinear-losenge asthetic. But cooler heads prevailed: It's Form over Function and the hapless consumer gets stuck w/ a useless $30 widget.

    Doesn't Fly

    • Written by from Aurora

So, I purchased this adapter with a Flybridge support that was also endorsed by Apple to transfer my iHome docks to Lightning. First, you have to plug it in several times, before it will actually start charging. No matter what, I received a warning that the "cable/accessory in not licensed". Needless to say, I found this kinda amusing. Second, I have to remove the back/bottom of my case (IvySkin Quattro), so that the adapter can even make it to the port. Not that this is entirly the adapter's fault, but come on who doesn't have their phone in a case?! Third (and not least), it will not play audio! The description for this adapter says audio supported, but that's not the truth. Don't do it!

    Big disappointment

Wanted an adapter to work with my current speaker/charger system. Product description failed to mention that it would not work with a case on, (even an apple case). A little design change could rectify this problem.

    Would be great, but...

    • Written by from Austin

I had one of these in my travel bag to charge my older iPad and my iPhone 5--at the time carried without a case--without having to carry two cables. I bought the otherwise perfect Apple leather case for my phone and it will not accommodate the adapter. I don't understand why Apple did not design the case with the adapter in mind, or the adapter with the case in mind. Along with the charging stand--which also does not work with a case--it seems as though Apple's designers aren't coordinating with each other.

Not Compatible with OEM Apple iPhone 5S Dock

    • Written by from Portland

I love Apple products, I own tons of them; their accessories, not so much. This is a prime example of an overpriced, less than capable accessory with flaws. First off, as many reviews have said, it is not compatible with nearly any case; certainly none of the cases I have. The thing that really sealed the 2-star review from me though is the fact that it does not work with the official OEM Apple iPhone 5S dock. I bought the dock for use in my bedroom but of course it doesn't come with a cable. No problem I thought, I'll just buy the lightning adaptor and use my old 30-pin iPhone cable. Nope. When I use this setup I get a "This cable or accessory is not certified and may not work reliably with this iPhone." message. Umm, every component I'm using is certified and manufactured by Apple, how could it not work?

    Does not work with case!

    • Written by from Philadelphia

While the adaptor itself works fine, it does not fit with most cases because the lightning connection comes directly out of the plastic as opposed to coming from a cable (most case opening do not accommodate this). Apple should really specify that it does not work with most cases, or fix it so that it will. Sadly, returning this for the one with the cable; I had been looking forward to how compact it would be. Oh well.
