Does NOT work with JBL 200iD docking station

    • Written by from New Orleans

As above, doesn't work with the JBL docking station. Just no sound whatsoever. If you use the headphone out and plug it into the headphone jack of the docking station, then it works, but forget about using he Lightning to 30-pin adapter. It just doesn't work, My wife's older iPod Nano with the 30-pin output works fine. Mine? Nada.

On top of this, even when I use the adapter to charge my iPod off the computer, it takes a few minutes for the laptop to even recognize the iPod is connected. Overall I am disappointed in this product and I agree that it costs far too much for what it is.

Worked for a while in my Mercedes...Does not work now!

    • Written by from Jackson

This plug worked fine in my car for a couple of weeks...now when I plug it up all I get is SILENCE!!! Apple should not have changed the chargers/adapters/connections! This is really upsetting that I purchased a phone that is now useless for playing music in my car.

    Compact but major design flaw

    • Written by from Pewaukee

I like how small it is compared to carrying a long cable around but I am very disappointed that it is incompatible with my Speck Candyshell (or nearly any protective case that covers the bottom of your iPhone 5). The lightning portion is just too short to work with my case. I think I'm going to see about exchanging for the cable version which at least has a smaller lightning portion

    Useless

    • Written by from Cavite

Like what was mentioned in the earlier reviews here, it won't work with any type of Iphone case. Also the worst part is, it has compatibility issues with my JBL Onbeat Xtreme and Harman Kardon Go+Play II. So now, the only way for me to play them is through Aux cable or bluetooth.... I wasted money here......

    It Works!

    • Written by from Sudbury

Bought a cheaper one on the web and didn't work at all (got my money back). Bought this at an Apple Store and works perfectly in my 2010 BMW. Have not tried it on other products as this is the only one I needed it for.

    Case & Adapter for 5

    • Written by from attica

    Hello IPhone 5 peeps!

I have an Otterbox case for my 5 and the official charger adapter "thingy" fits fine, charges fine and works with my iHome speakers. I have the case on 100% of the time.

Hope this helps! LOVE all my Apple products including our new mini IPad!

    Best of luck !,,

Is the only adapter that works with old car factory 30 Pins

    • Written by from Miami

The cord did not allowed me to listen to my music on the car, this adapter does, had to cut my Candyshell Specks case. Hopefully the case manufactures correct their designs.

    Incompatible with Apple's own products

    • Written by from London

I've just spent a ridiculous $100 + taxes on three cables, a lightning to 30 pin adapter at $30, a USB adapter at $30 and a 30 pin HDMI adapter at $40, assuming the combination would allow me to connect an iPhone 5, an ipad 4 and a 30 pin ipad to a variety of peripherals. As soon as you connect two Apple cables together you get an "incompatible" message, which is frankly a disgrace. This means you have to buy multiple, separate cables at huge expense for each device to even stand a chance of getting them to work with the same peripherals. Judging from other posts, even this won't provide full functionality on many of them. Sort it out quickly Apple, the competition are catching up and overtaking fast.

    Doesn't work with iPhone 5s

    • Written by from Stoney Creek

Never worked straight out of the box. Message pops up instantly saying this device is not supported. Can't wrap my head around that because I bought it right from the apple store and the associate recommended it to me.

    Useless

    • Written by from DURSLEY

I bought this adapter to try and connect my iPhone 5 to our Bose Soundock (the original) and the 'official' lead supplied with our Land Rover Discovery 4. Hugely disappointed that it doesn't operate with either (not even supporting charging). What a waste of money! Why didn't Apple give more consideration to how those people who have been using all their previous (30 pin) devices so successfully, and loyally(!), with currently owned and very expensive 'gadgets' are going to keep using their new products. Or did they????

I have a car charger for my iPad 3 which obviously uses 30 pins and with this adapter I could charge my iPhone 5 without having to have additional coil. Awesome!!

    Electrically great, Mechanically a fail

    • Written by from Toronto

The device does allow you to connect to a 30-pin accessory. The sound quality is good.

There are two serious problems though...
    1. It's mechanically fragile - this means you can't use it to attach the iPhone 5 to a music dock.
    2. The connector is too short so that you can't use it if you have installed a protective case or bumper on your iPhone 5.

I had one, I sent it back for a refund. The wired version of the same device solves both the issues.

    Lightning Adapter stinks

    • Written by from Cincinnati

Hey Apple. It's been two years, don't you think it is time you listened to the reviews and released a decent 30-pin to lightning adapter. I have two of these that I shaved down with an exacto blade so they would work with my kids cases, but this is unsightly and is hardly what I expect from a company known for it's industrial design. If I wanted to modify stuff myself, I would just buy from Microsoft or Samsung. Maybe it is time I did.

    Destroyed my lightning port

    • Written by from New York

While this worked with my bose soundock, it eventually wore down the iphone lightning port since the weight of the phone standing up put continuous stress on the port pins. Over only 1-2 months, it started to wear down the port so that now it is very loose when connecting to any USB cable for charging, syncing, etc. Basically in less 2 months of use it has rendered my iphone5 almost incapable of being charged or synced. Even wireless chargers with the charging case will not work because the port will not connect 85% of the time with the standard cable. And I assure you this was not due to significant stress other than just placing in the bose soundock for music.

If you are getting the new apple products with the new ports, I now know you must get docking systems, speakers, etc. that are upgraded as well. The adaptor clearly was not tested correctly and has a significant design flaw. Or this was all orchestrated so that you would be forced to buy a new phone before you are eligible for a contract upgrade. I have never written an online review for anything ever before, so clearly I feel very strongly about this. Do not use this adaptor unless you want to buy a new phone or repair your present one.

    Didn't Work

    • Written by from High Point

I ordered both the Ligntning adapter and the cord adapter to connect my 7th generation iPod Nano to my Bose Sound Dock. Neither is working. There is not a peep of sound coming from the Sound Dock. My old Nano works, so I know it's not the Sound Dock. I bought a second iPod specifically so I could have one in the house and one in the car. The new one has more space capacity, so I wanted it in the house. Since this doesn't work, I've essentially wasted $150. Thanks Apple. Do you really have to change the connection? Geeze!

    TERRIBLE DESIGN

    • Written by from San Jose

Though this adapter works fine with 30-pin cords and docks, it doesn't work with most iPhone 5 cases. Because of its terrible design, it doesn't reach far enough to connect to an iPhone 5 wearing a full body case. I'm astonished that apple can make such thin and revolutionary phones, but can't make an adapter that doesn't require you to take your case off every time you use it. How about make it in the shape of a triangle???
