    Not useful

    • Written by from New York

I was really disappointed with the use cases for this adapter. Pretty much just for syncing. I tried to use it with my video/projector 30 pin cable for a keynote presentation (no audio or video). So very limited. The real clincher was when I connected it to my iPad Air a warning came up "This accessory not compatible" - their own product was rejected by their own product - therein lies the answer.

    Completely useless

Does not work on any of my devices with a case even Apples own leather iPhone case. Attention to detail was one of Apples greatest strength, didn't someone bother to think "hmmm will this overpriced accessory work with our other overpriced accessory?" Apple you were able to foresee the revolution in mobile computing but could not fathom that people would want to use a case with their devices? Complete FAIL! does not even deserve 1 star.

    Almost completely useless.

    • Written by from Petaling Jaya

This has got to be the most useless adapter ever made by Apple. It will NOT fit any Lightning device that has a case/sleeve/cover fitted as this adapter's Lightning end is too broad (like the old 30-pin iPod connector). This means that it is incompatible even with Apple's own Smart cases for the iPads and iPhone 5S/5C cases.

Only useful for totally naked/caseless/sleeveless Lightning based iDevices.

    Does the Job

    • Written by from Griffin

I must say that I got this device to use it in the way it was meant to be used: charging, syncing, and playing audio. I have mine for some while now (since I purchased my iPad air the day it came out) and i like it. It works and does what the DESCRIPTION says it will do well for me. I knew I would not be able to use a case with this adapter which was find with me because I was mainly using it with my docking station at night. I mean you're connecting a 30 pin to 8 pin, there's a big difference in size. Which I understand this may be a deal breaker for some, just not for me in my case. It's not like I use an Otterbox with my iPad and it's going to take me several minutes to get it on and off. I use a smart cover with a clear back case.

I've seen a lot of people complaining because they can't play video with this device that clearly states in the description that it doesn't support video output. Um I don't know what to say about that. I do see a adapter that can be used for that in the Apple Store. So I can't speak on that other than the fact it states that it will not support VIDEO OUTPUT.

So basically if you are looking for an adapter to connect to old accessories from previous apple products to: listen to music, charge, or sync than this is the product for you. Otherwise you may want to do a little research and be sure to read before purchasing. Also it states that it may not work properly with all accessories...

    Waste of Money.

    • Written by from Miami

I bought this so I could use my Beats By Dr Dre Beatbox and it worked fine, for a very little amount of time. $30 is a pretty expensive considering you could a knockoff for less but wanted to give it a try. After 2 months the sound kept cutting off and eventually it stopped working all together. This $30 paperweight will not let me play my music or charge my phone. Apple needs to make products that last instead of giving their consumers a "temporary " solution so they can make big profits. I will give it another try, but I find it ridiculous that I a bad product from apple, I could understand if it was a knockoff but it was from apple! I would not recommend this product, spend your hard earned money on the 30-10pin cord instead it is so much better.

Exactly as Others Said - Doesn't Work with Apple Case

    • Written by from Rensselaer

I had a cheap case from a mall kiosk and the adapter worked on my iHome speaker. I decided I hated the feel of my case. I went and spent $40 on the Apple case. I love the case - feels awesome in doesn't way down the phone. Now I'm at work, and with this "Apple" case, the adpater doesn't fit and my iHome charger/speaker will not work. I"m beyond mad. How stupid that the "Apple" case makes it so the "Apple" adapter doesn't work. DUH!!!!

    HORRIBLE DESIGN

    • Written by from Daly City

As with all the others who left reviews - the 8 pin plug is fatter than their standard plug which makes this unusable with any hard case! I don't understand why this wasn't resolved yet and is still on the shelves with so many complaints. Now I have to go back and demand a refund!

    Useless and expensive

    • Written by from Los Gatos

Pay the outrageous $10 extra to get 6" of cord on top of the outrageous $29 that this thing costs, as for $39 you get something useful and ridiculously expensive, rather than spending $29 on something useless if you use a case. I completely understand Apple's desire to switch to Lighting, and think it is a great connector, but charging these prices (compared with $19 for a Lightning-USB cable) to allow people to use their thousands of legacy devices feels deeply cynical.

It doesn't work if your phone has a cover

    • Written by from miami

If you have a case It just doesn't work, it is too short and it wont connect. No clue why they would design something that won't work in almost any phone as pretty much everybody use some sort of cover or case. I returned it and got the cord adaptor... not the best solution as now I cannot put my phone standing on top of my dock....

    Only works without a case!

    • Written by from Fort Smith

Purchased this item with my phone to use with my old iPhone car charger. Was very happy until the iPhone leather case I purchased came in and I realized my adapter was too short and no longer worked!
Apple phone, apple adapter and apple case- you would think they would work together well! Apple needs to lengthen the adapter to fit and send out replacements! Someone was short- sighted! Pun intended!

    $30+ tax wasted

    • Written by from san francisco

You would think that the braintrust in Cupertino could have figured this one out: If you have a case on your iPhone, you can't use the adapter since the opening in the case is too narrow and the adapter too wide. This could have so easily been resolved by making the lightning tab longer, but that wouldnt look neat & tidy if you're not using a case; or the adapter could have been wedge-shaped so that the Lightining end was no larger than the end on the charging cord, but that would be counter to Apple's rectilinear-losenge asthetic. But cooler heads prevailed: It's Form over Function and the hapless consumer gets stuck w/ a useless $30 widget.

    Would be great, but...

    • Written by from Austin

I had one of these in my travel bag to charge my older iPad and my iPhone 5--at the time carried without a case--without having to carry two cables. I bought the otherwise perfect Apple leather case for my phone and it will not accommodate the adapter. I don't understand why Apple did not design the case with the adapter in mind, or the adapter with the case in mind. Along with the charging stand--which also does not work with a case--it seems as though Apple's designers aren't coordinating with each other.

    bad design

    • Written by from San Diego

this pin adapter does not work with an apple case for the 5s but they are prominently displayed in the store right next to each other as 5s accessories. What a goof move. And the associate in the store didn't say a thing while we were purchasing case and adapter at the same time. I start back charging for my time wasted.

    • Written by from Bartlett

I wish i would have read the reviews. Apple - please make this work with your 5S case you state is the perfect case - not so if I cannot use the adapter in my car. I need this piece to have my phone connect to my car. I am going to be forced to come up with a new solution. How hard is it to make the adapter work with a case - Please reconfigure this one - DO NOT BUY IF YOU WANT TO HAVE YOUR PHONE IN A CASE
