    Useless with a case

    • Written by from Ponte Vedra Beach

The adapter will not work with Apple's own cases. Useless. Now I have to go into the store and return it.

    $30+ tax wasted

    • Written by from san francisco

You would think that the braintrust in Cupertino could have figured this one out: If you have a case on your iPhone, you can't use the adapter since the opening in the case is too narrow and the adapter too wide. This could have so easily been resolved by making the lightning tab longer, but that wouldnt look neat & tidy if you're not using a case; or the adapter could have been wedge-shaped so that the Lightining end was no larger than the end on the charging cord, but that would be counter to Apple's rectilinear-losenge asthetic. But cooler heads prevailed: It's Form over Function and the hapless consumer gets stuck w/ a useless $30 widget.

    Lightning extension too short!

    • Written by from Somers

I have a 5S iPhone with Apple leather case and iPad Air with Apple leather case. This adapter is too short to connect on both with Apple case installed. Redesign needed to make the lighning extension longer!

    Would be great, but...

    • Written by from Austin

I had one of these in my travel bag to charge my older iPad and my iPhone 5--at the time carried without a case--without having to carry two cables. I bought the otherwise perfect Apple leather case for my phone and it will not accommodate the adapter. I don't understand why Apple did not design the case with the adapter in mind, or the adapter with the case in mind. Along with the charging stand--which also does not work with a case--it seems as though Apple's designers aren't coordinating with each other.

    bad design

    • Written by from San Diego

this pin adapter does not work with an apple case for the 5s but they are prominently displayed in the store right next to each other as 5s accessories. What a goof move. And the associate in the store didn't say a thing while we were purchasing case and adapter at the same time. I start back charging for my time wasted.

Apple you missed the boat on this one !

    • Written by from Bartlett

I wish i would have read the reviews. Apple - please make this work with your 5S case you state is the perfect case - not so if I cannot use the adapter in my car. I need this piece to have my phone connect to my car. I am going to be forced to come up with a new solution. How hard is it to make the adapter work with a case - Please reconfigure this one - DO NOT BUY IF YOU WANT TO HAVE YOUR PHONE IN A CASE

    5s + Apple's leather case = worthless adapter

    • Written by from Dallas

Like everyone else, I am sorely disappointed that a $30 adapter certified by Apple does not work with its own slim leather case.

Doesn't work with the Apple brand 5s case

    • Written by from McLean

Just received my new iPhone 5s & was extremely disappointed to find that these adapters do not work with the Apple brand case that I purchased as well. This is a huge ecosystem FAIL for Apple, so much for the Apple mystique. I don't see anywhere in the description of this product that it is not compatible with their case. For the prices that Apple charges for their products, there is no excuse for this sloppiness. Someone needs to be held accountable for this failure. Are you listening Tim Cook? I don't think that Jobs would have put up with this nonsense.

    Incompatible w Cases!

    • Written by from Belnan

Wow, Apple should know better. If this adapter's connector was a little longer, it would fit phones with cases. I am very upset that I paid top dollar for iPhone 5S, Apple Case, and now stuck without an adapter that will fit properly. I feel screwed over again...almost time to move away from Apple products.

    Does not support video

    • Written by from Spring

I have all my iPad 2 accessories including the HDMI connector, that I wanted to use with my new iPad w/retina display, so instead of buying a new set of accessories I just figured I'd buy this adapter and be on my way.... But guess what ? this adapter doesn't support video and it doesn't say so in the box ! I just spent 20+ bucks for nothing !!

Does not work with apples 5s case in same order

    • Written by from Meridian

Why not tell customers when they order the 5s adapter and case in the same order that they are incompatible together?
How unfair and poor design. I hate adapters like this anyway, why make it worse?

0 stars is my actual opinion.

    No Video Support? Really?

    • Written by from Coronado

I have an Infiniti QX60 with an entertainment system in the back so my kids can watch movies when we go on a long drive. The system has an auxiliary connection to play movies from other devices. The problem is that we bought most of our movies through iTunes, and there is no Lightning Composite AV cable available.

So every time we want to play movies we bought in iTunes, we need to take our big old iPad 2 with us in the car. It would be much easier if I could just plug my iPhone 5 in an play the movies from there, but no, Apple has to restrict everything!!!

    From good to bad

    • Written by from Audubon

I purchased this product so I could charge and play my music from my 5th generation ipod on my ihome. It worked perfectly for about 7 months, but now it doesn't. For some reason, the adapter only lets me charge my ipod. Some of you may be saying that maybe theres something wrong with my ihome. Well there isn't. I tried the adapter on 3 ihomes and 1 bose docking station. The result left me unsatisfied. Whats the point of having a brand spanking new ipod if you can't even use it for it's main purpose- listening to music at a high volume. I am very disappointed with the degrading of this product. I never even abused it. It was always left attached to my ihome. I hope apple with fix this product.

    • Written by from Clermont

This is my 3rd IPhone, and have always be pleased with the phone as well as accessories. No more, Went to my local AT&T store to upgrade to the I5. I also purchased a new SPECK cover that is designed for the I5. My husband inquired about an adapter to put into my other car charger that went with my 4S. Was told no problem so I purchased the adapter for $29.. The only problem is it will not hook up to my phone because it does NOT extend far enough to go into the plug opening. I am returning it to my dealer.....So it's not compatible..really

    Flawed Design

    • Written by from Los Angeles

It does the job of converting well. It's disappointing that it cannot be used with even the most slim of cases on the iPhone 5 so you must remove your case to charge, which is cumbersome. It's particularly disappointing considering the standard charger that comes with the iPhone 5 is able to connect with a case still on the phone so they just didn't follow through when they designed this adapter.

Works great on my iPad 4

    • Written by from Upland

I had bought accessories for my my iPad 2. Namely an SD card reader so I could upload my SD card from my camera. I was worried with the new lightening, that I would not be able to use my SD card adapter. It works perfectly. The card reader inserts right into the 30 pin adapter. My suggestion to the iPhone 5 users, remove the case. Is it that hard?
