Doesn't work with Apple's iPhone 5s leather cover

    • Written by from NEW YORK

I bought this for my iPad Mini. I tried using it with my new iPhone 5s (with the Apple leather case.) But it does not fit. :( Disappointed that I have to buy a extra cable now.

The leather case takes some time to remove. And I wonder if removing it often will loosen it's tight fit. So I am weary to remove the case every time I need to charge.

I do like the leather case, however.

Worthless if you have a case on your phone (Yes including the Apple 5s Case

    • Written by from Paso Robles

Usually Apple is good at insuring that their phones, computers, ipads, and accessories all work well together. In this case, they completely missed the boat. I purchased the nice (expensive) new leather 5s case at the same time as this adapter and the Apple Store person never said a word about these two Apple accessories not being compatible with each other. As such, I have wasted $29 for this 30-pin to lightning adapter that won't work with my new phone and case.

    No Video Support? Really?

    • Written by from Coronado

I have an Infiniti QX60 with an entertainment system in the back so my kids can watch movies when we go on a long drive. The system has an auxiliary connection to play movies from other devices. The problem is that we bought most of our movies through iTunes, and there is no Lightning Composite AV cable available.

So every time we want to play movies we bought in iTunes, we need to take our big old iPad 2 with us in the car. It would be much easier if I could just plug my iPhone 5 in an play the movies from there, but no, Apple has to restrict everything!!!

    Can't use with a case!!!!

    • Written by from River Vale

I just got my brandy new 5S which I want to protect so I also purchased one of the Apple leather cases. The adapter (which I thought was a great idea) does not fit if the case is on. Earth to Apple, people don't want to take their phones out of cases just to use this device. Will be returning ASAP.

    Using with phone case

    • Written by from MILFORD

For those having problems using this item with a phone case, i had the same problem. However, by filing the plastic on each side of the lightning connector, I am now able to use it while my phone is in it's case. I hope this information helps.

    Works perfectly with iPhone 5s

    • Written by from Allentown

I can use this in my car with my Auxiliary & Charging unit, it works just like the old adapter. I can use this with my Bose Sound Dock unit, just like the old adapter. The Lightning adapter works perfectly with every device I had used when I had the old adapter, no problems at all. Very simple to just plug it in with the old adapter on one side and plug the other side to the bottom of my iPhone 5s. The only thing that was kind of annoying is, I believe Apple should have included this adapter as a standard item in the packaging of their new iPhone 5 models. I have also heard that Apple won't be making any new changes to the new adapters over the next 10 years, which is good, since they get kind of costly at $29.00. Well, I'm not sure what some of the problems were that others wrote about in the other reviews, but I see no problems at all and it's simple to make the change with the Lightning adapter. Just be sure to purchase the adapter from Apple and not some cheaper store, so that you know your getting the correct adapter. Also, be careful what kind of phone covers you buy, get a phone cover that allows you to plug the adapter in. Hope this helps!

Does NOT work with Apple's own 5s cases

    • Written by from San Diego

I find it surprising that Apple's own 5s cases do not work with its own Lightning to 30-pin Adapter. Please make an adapter that will. It's a design flaw when this is overlooked. It makes my iHome useless now.
The product deserves more stars than this. It doesn't function for my needs, so it's only a 1 star.

Works great and saved me a couple hundred dollars

    • Written by from Gresham

I bought one of these adaptors for my Kenwood stereo in my car. I had already ordered this one from apple when I got my iPhone 5s but stopped by the place I had the deck installed a couple years ago. They were nice enough to loan me a similar adaptor that did not work with my new phone. When I got this adaptor a couple days later I decided to give it a shot since I notice the one I was loaned was not made by apple, It worked! There was no problem for my older deck to connect to my phone and I tested numerous time to make sure I was giving you hope for you older iPod capable devices.

There are a lot of poor reviews for this adaptor but I think that most of those have more to do with the customer choosing the correct adaptor for their situation. Many of the reviews I saw should have chosen the Lightning to 30‑pin Adapter cable instead of this one.

Doesn't fit with iPhone 5S Case

    • Written by from Ottawa

I'm confused. Apple makes a lightening adapter for the 5S, and Apple makes a case for the 5S. But you can't use them both at the same time. This could not make less sense. I generally love Apple products, but this is one little ball very heavily dropped.

    AVOID

    • Written by from Larchmont

This is a terribly conceived and designed product as it will not fit an Iphone 5S or 5 if you have a cover (which is 100% of Iphone owners). It's so bad, in fact, that none of the Apple designed Iphone covers will work with this Apple adapter. Get the chord instead. I would highly recommend Apple pull this useless product from the market immediately and fire the designer.

    Worthless with Apple case

    • Written by from Cambridge

If you have the new 5S case, this is worthless. You have to use the skinny USB cable that comes with the phone or buy the more expensive 30-pin to lightning cable. All your 30-pin sleek speaker systems/recharging devices will not work with this adapter unless you rip off the case every time you use it or get the cable adapter to hang off it. Why couldn't they taper the lightning end to the same size that is on the USB cable for this adapter??

It will not play music on any of my IPOD docking devices. Just charges it. I really can't justify buying new alarm clocks and music cubes. Yep really disappointed and hope Apple comes up with a solution.

Great Device if it Fits Your Needs

    • Written by from Stokesdale

I bought 2 of these when they first came out. At first I was a little disappointed with them thinking they would not fit through my cases/covers but, as it turns out, they fit just fine. Perhaps a little snug for some cases but they still worked great. What I love most about these devices is that I can switch between old and new technology with the same cable, especially if I'm on the road and don't want to carry a bunch of cables. I'm buying 2 more now because I have more places where I can use them. Just make sure it will fit your needs and will work with your setup before buying.

    From good to bad

    • Written by from Audubon

I purchased this product so I could charge and play my music from my 5th generation ipod on my ihome. It worked perfectly for about 7 months, but now it doesn't. For some reason, the adapter only lets me charge my ipod. Some of you may be saying that maybe theres something wrong with my ihome. Well there isn't. I tried the adapter on 3 ihomes and 1 bose docking station. The result left me unsatisfied. Whats the point of having a brand spanking new ipod if you can't even use it for it's main purpose- listening to music at a high volume. I am very disappointed with the degrading of this product. I never even abused it. It was always left attached to my ihome. I hope apple with fix this product.

    Works well, but annoyingly expensive

    • Written by from Redmond

Great adapter, works with my iPhone case although my wife had to get a different case for her iPhone 5 to get the adapter to work for her. My only gripe is that $30 is way too much for this tiny thing. Ideally I would want to have a whole bunch of them, but at this price I only have a couple, which have a tendency to get misplaced.
