Very poor quality. Wasted money as my adapter lasted only for 3 months. I used it with my Belkin car charger. Don't by the adapter. Buy a new charger. Only reason for me to use the adapter was because I have the FM transmitter in the charger

Have major investment in Bose Soundock & Pioneer Car stereo w/30 pin iPod/iPhone connections, sound & controls work fine but they do not charge my iPod. For the jerk calling us morons, not everyone goes out & replace everything to match some new technology, & there is very little directly supporting Lightning right now. Not charging my iPod is a BIG thing to me, especially after spending $29 for a small but wide chunk of plastic that I had to carve part of my 1st case to be able to use it.

Sorry I upgraded to iPhone 5

iPhone 5 is a great product. But and A BIG BUT. If they weren't going to make the adapters support everything from audio, to Video. Its a worthless purchase. I was perfectly happy with my iPhone 3GS. When I used it on all my 30 pin docking devices I could watch videos.
I feel as tho upgrading to iPhone 5 has taken me backwards. I'm constantly trying to move forward with my technology choices. Apple needs to step up and make the lighting to 30pin adapters video capable. I will not purchase nor urge my iPhone 4S friends to upgrade to iPhone 5 till they do this.
This is the first time I have truly been unhappy with an Apple Product. My opinion is they put it out too soon, not having complete adapter support.

The adapter only works with the iphone cover off - after a while the cover is useless. Buy the new cable instead.

    Poor Product and Unaccepatble Price

Luckily a friend with a new iPhone 5 dropped by. I have multiple devices in two separate locations and the office that have 30-pin connectors. The friend's accessories do not allow for secure docking with my Bose system and the price alone for using multiple devices without hauling around adapters is simply outrageous. Just do the arithmetic of all those home, office and auto connections that you currently just connect to on arrival with a problem. I was planning to upgrade to the 5 today. Now I am not so sure. I am a fully Apple household and business user.

    Not worth $30

I purchased this thinking it might be handy to use with existing 30 pin cords for older devices. The Lightning shaft is to short to fully seat into your phone if you have any kind of protective case. This is a major disapointment considering these babies cost $30.

Doesn't fit new cases for iphone

    • Written by from Hattiesburg

39 of 43 people found this useful

The adapter works, but only if you don't have a case on. The lightning adapter part is too short to fit into most cases on iPhone, therefore making it useless unless you want to remove your case each time you want to charge/sync. Poorly designed, which is unusual for Apple.

Way to make something that is pretty much useless with a case

Since everyone uses a case, I'm a bit baffled why this adapter was built the way it was. The pin connector inst long enough to fit into the phone with a case on. Complete lack of forethought by whomever built this and approved it for the product.

Bottom line, don't waste your money. On a side note, the 30 PIN connector to Lightning cable isn't much better. Still thicker than the USB one and wont fit most cases. Departments over there should communicate better and make things standard sizes.

Only works with device facing backwards. Doesn't allow charging.

My stepmother and I both have the same problem with this. She has an iPhone 4s and I have a 7th-generation iPod nano. With two different adapters and two different Bose docking systems, we each can only reliably get this to work with our devices facing backwards! Occasionally, if we're lucky, it will work for a while with the device facing forward. It's weird, because I thought the great thing about the lightning adapter was that it was symmetrical. For the price, I'd hoped this would work right.

Further, the Bose docking station will not charge our devices using this adapter. Geez, Apple! Whatever happened to "it just works"?

    Will not work for video

I have a 30 pin to RCA A/V cable to can hook up the iPad/iPhone to the video system in our car and on older TV's. This cable worked great with our older iPad and iPhone that used the 30 pin connector. Now that we have upgraded to new devices, this lightning to 30 pin adaptor will not work for video. All we get is audio and no picture.

Don't get it. I bought an iPad mini for my videos and got the adaptor to view my videos. Got it at an Apple store where they told me it would work with my videos. Big disappointment!!! Will be visiting Apple.

    Another New "Bad" Apple Design

I'm a long time Apple user and make my living using Apple products. Recently I've been disappointed with a growing number of Apple's products and software, feeling they are a step backwards instead of forward thinking. This adapter is on that list, as no thought was given to how this adapter would work with an iPhone in a case, any case. They changed the plug but left the main case the same shape as the old 30-pin plugs. All they needed to do was make the plug a bit long or have a 'step' from the base to the actual plug that would work with new case designs. This should have been a no brainer, but unfortunately Apple clearly wasn't paying attention. I bought 2 and I am going to try and send them back, they are totally useless to me.

I also have a case and it didnt connect with the adapter. When I removed the case and plugged it into my clock radio port, it was flimsy and moved easily. I suspect it would break the radio or adapter in time.
