    TERRIBLE DESIGN

Though this adapter works fine with 30-pin cords and docks, it doesn't work with most iPhone 5 cases. Because of its terrible design, it doesn't reach far enough to connect to an iPhone 5 wearing a full body case. I'm astonished that apple can make such thin and revolutionary phones, but can't make an adapter that doesn't require you to take your case off every time you use it. How about make it in the shape of a triangle???

to large to work for me

My problem with the adapter is it is to large. I purchased so I could charge my ipad on my ihome radios and charger but the adapter is so large it raises the height of the ipad when placed on the charger. The ipad is raised so much it is above the back support and simply falls backward. Bascially for me it is unusable. I don't worry to much about it though because I sure within a year or two Apple will make a change forcing us to buy another different adapter.

Thunderbolt to 30 pin adapter no connection

The adapter is allowing me to charge but that is all. I am unable to connect to iTunes or transfer data from my phone to my computer via the cable?! Not worth the price!

Not if you have a case.

Functionally OK, no longer allowing me to play music in dock with screen off. Biggest issue: I must now take my case off to plug it into the music dock. Included charging cable fits fine in the case - if a future product iteration allowed 1/4 to 1/2 inch of cable-width extension it'd work.

    Flawed Design

It does the job of converting well. It's disappointing that it cannot be used with even the most slim of cases on the iPhone 5 so you must remove your case to charge, which is cumbersome. It's particularly disappointing considering the standard charger that comes with the iPhone 5 is able to connect with a case still on the phone so they just didn't follow through when they designed this adapter.

    Big Miss on Video

No Video Out is a huge miss. New technology should NOT go backward. Unforunately with no solution to connect to 100% of car stereo installations that have a video presence is a BACKWARDS movement. A huge miss, I'm afraid.

Does NOT work with JBL 200iD docking station

As above, doesn't work with the JBL docking station. Just no sound whatsoever. If you use the headphone out and plug it into the headphone jack of the docking station, then it works, but forget about using he Lightning to 30-pin adapter. It just doesn't work, My wife's older iPod Nano with the 30-pin output works fine. Mine? Nada.

On top of this, even when I use the adapter to charge my iPod off the computer, it takes a few minutes for the laptop to even recognize the iPod is connected. Overall I am disappointed in this product and I agree that it costs far too much for what it is.

    Car Head Unit Adaptor

    • Written by from Pakenham

Plays music when attached to my Pioneer head unit with 30 pin plug. Does not charge the Ipod though. My old Ipod when plugged directly would play and charge the Ipod. Now I have to continually bring the Ipod out of my car to charge whereas i used to just leave my old one connected permanently.

Apple really need to come up with a complete working solution since they decided to change to the lighting plug. I now have docking stations and more that are either useless or only partially working with the new connector.

    Compact but major design flaw

    • Written by from Pewaukee

I like how small it is compared to carrying a long cable around but I am very disappointed that it is incompatible with my Speck Candyshell (or nearly any protective case that covers the bottom of your iPhone 5). The lightning portion is just too short to work with my case. I think I'm going to see about exchanging for the cable version which at least has a smaller lightning portion

    Disappointing...Bluetooth options may be better

This is a disappointing move from Apple...not because they changed from 30-pin to lightning (change is inevitable), but because the lightning interface thus far offers no advantages vs. 30-pin; in fact, it's a step BACKWARDS (no video out, may not charge your device depending on the dock it's connected to). I bought one knowing there was no video out, but to not support charging with all 3rd party docks (I have two JBL docks) is unacceptable. I will probably return it and get Bluetooth 30-pin streaming receivers to play music. I hope Apple offers updated Lightning accessories in the future to address these deficiencies, support faster data transfers, etc.

Works with some previously usable but not worth $35

I bought one of these connectors for use with my scosche fm transmitter in my car. The adapter allows the transmitter to play music and show the song title properly, however it does not charge my iPhone 5... Tried it with my sylvania alarm clock and it works fine (not defective) I'm disappointed the apple would change connectors and then not stock them for 2 months after releasing a product, charge this much for a connector and have it only work with some products. Looks like apple cost me even more cash now that I have to buy a new fm transmitter. The best part of apple is dead...

I originally bought this so I could dock my phone on my Beats By Dre BeatBox.... it doesn't even work. All that happens is that my phone charges, which is pretty cool I guess... but I can't play music. The only reason I use this now is to bring around with me in my pocket in case my phone is dying so that I can use someone else's 30-pin wire and charge my phone... because everyone has a 30-pin wire. Works fine with other docks, sadly just not with the BeatBox.

Poor design and doesn't function using iPhone 4 accessories & connections

    • Written by from Aurora

55 of 76 people found this useful

Suggest you make sure this works for your connection needs before you drop $30 on it.
OK - first, the design is terrible; I bought a very small protective case (the Speck CandyShell Grip - a great case BTW) for the IPhone 5; it has a large opening for the connector but the lightning pin isn't long enough to fit all the way into the phone. Just a bad design from Apple.
But more troubling is that cords / connections / accessories that work with our other ipods and iphones (v4) don't all work the same with this connector attached to an iPhone 5. Chargers don't charge the iphone 5...connectivity to my car's iPhone connector (Nissan Maxima) doesn't work the same as the iPhone 4 and iPods (now it won't charge the iPhone 5, music controls don't work properly, etc.). Using this connector for the iPhone 5 connecting to a Bose Soundstation results in a very wobbly connection - it lost connection to the Bose frequently, sound cut out, and the left speaker never worked (this Bose still works great with all other ipods, ipod touches and iphone 4's (and they are also running ios 6). I tested this connected to my Pioneer Receiver (which has an iPod connection builtin) - this seemed to work perfect. Still have to test the car connection for our Honda Pilot and Honda Fit.

    Overall - Caveat Emptor!!!!!!

I guess I'm glad I have the adapter for when I'm in a pinch. However, it will not work with any phone that has a case which many people have pointed out. I did find that it works if you have a silicon case that can flex around it or a snap on case that does not surround the ports at all.

These work fine, however, like the others have said, I was really disappointed to buy two of these only to find that they won't work on my phone with a case on it. I guess I should have considered that before buying them, but now I'm stuck with two of them that are essentially useless to me unless I want to constantly fight with the case to remove it in order to use them.

    Hmmm read before you buy

I purchased this as it was assumed it was purely an adapter to 30pin from lightning. This is not the case. It will provide audio and charging ( so if thats all you needs then its fine).

However it was purchased as i go to a gym that has the matrix gym equipment allowing you to use your iPod/iphone to view video/music and use nike+

When it was plugged in, said device not supported, and only audio tracks were attainable. But i suppose its my fault for not reading the website. But i asked the genius guys and they said it does the same job as if id put in a lightning cable direcytly.

Why on earth video and other features arent supported is beyond me.!
