Will not work if your iPhone 5 has a cover!!!

    • Written by from New York

The length of the lightning adapter is too short if you have a cover with your iPhone.

    A good choice for me

Worked with my Bose sound dock using new iPod nano and iPhone 6. Very happy with purchase and the fact that I can still use accessories that I bought before the lightning upgrade.

    Incompatible with any case

    • Written by from Toronto

As many have already said, it is POORLY designed as it doesn't work with any case anyone buys to protect their $800 phone. If only Apple knew a thing about design...

Zero Stars not an option: 30 pin to Lightning

    • Written by from Huron

I bought the small corded 30-pin to lightning as I noticed that the port plug on my Lifeproof case was pretty slim. The standard charging lightning plug works fine, so I figured this old/new adaptor would do the trick for my car and motorcycle systems. Mistake!!! The fitment is fine while using the case so that is not the issue. They will both allow charging of the phone, and you can "hear" that it is connecting through the speakers, but there is no audio support.

Apple has gone down the road of too many changes, while not maintaining the level of product quality.

SO I am left with two choices: Return the iPhone 6 and keep my perfectly functional 4S, or carry around a phone that works, and the iPhone4 for just audio purposes. Neither sounds like a particularly great plan to me.

I have been a avid Apple user - Mac, iPods, Nanos, iPhone4, 5, 5s 6 and now I am wondering if the lack of direction and "holding users hostage to their whimsical changes is really worth the troubles.

Many people are saying this does not work if you have case on your phone and giving it a bad review but they should look at the pictures.

Flaky and No Other Choices Out There

    • Written by from Croton on Hudson

I recently upgraded to an iPhone6 so I had to use one of these adapters to continue using my phone, maps and music in the car with a Kensington 2 in 1 charger/aux cable (which is a great product by the way). The adapter worked great for two weeks then one day just suddenly wouldn't pass an audio signal. It still charged the phone but when connected, audio would only come out of the iPhone's speaker. I tried the adapter on an older Bose speaker dock and the same thing happened there, so I know it has nothing to do with the car's aux interface or the Kensington cable.

I bought another adapter and it works fine in both, the car and the Bose dock just like the first one did... but I am on pins and needles wondering how long this one will last because the first one just stopped working without any prior sign of malfunction or abuse, and evidently Apple doesn't support using other 3rd party cables as solutions. And in reading other reviews, it seems others have similar experiences without any alternatives either.

Really wish Apple would at least offer free, no questions asked exchanges on proven bad adapters since they changed the 30 pin interface at everyone's expense in the first place and don't support using 3rd party cables. In contrast, the Kensington product is fantastic. Had it for years and it worked with all of my iPhones without a hitch - up until now, where I'm forced to put an adapter in the signal chain. Making quality cables and adapters can be done. And at $30, more than twice the price of what a 3rd party would sell their own for, shouldn't we at least expect a better quality product??

    A terrible product.

    • Written by from larkspur

I bought this about a year ago for my new ipod so I could listen to music through my alarm clock/jack. The adaptor stopped working completely three months after I bought it. It did start to work again, but now it works only intermittently, sometimes not even responding. I have to take the ipod on and off to make it work. The employee said it would work well. This product is not worth $30.

Additionally, my ipod does not sit centered on the adaptor, it is only halfway on, due to the location of the adaptor plug.

    Fragile, mine broke... twice!

    • Written by from Christchurch

I've had 2 of these now and the same thing has happened... after 1-2 months use the lightening plug part pulled out of the adapter.
First time I thought it was me handling it too roughly so took more care with the 2nd... When it went, I suspect there's a design fault.
Shame really as it should have been a good solution for those who have a mix of old & new devices and various chargers/docks strewn around their house/work/car!

    It really does work!

    • Written by from Bray

I think a lot of these reviews must be old. It clearly states on the box and in all Apple's descriptions, that this adapter does not work with video. The adapter is also very thin so works well with the Ted Baker case I have on my iPhone 5. And finally, after trying a cheap imitation that only provided power, this works brilliantly with my Logitech docking station and now I have really good sound back again.

iPhone 6 Plus, slim case. The plastic adapter is too wide to allow for a snug fit to the phone with the case on. The pin shaft is too short. An easy fix if someone were inclined to go on Shark Tank. LOL! I'll be waiting..

Limited Capabilities. Not Worth the Money!

    • Written by from Wenonah

I purchased the adapter to work with the Apple Camera Connecter kit. The connector kit provides a USB plug and a SD card plug. It works great for transferring photos from the SD card plug, but the adapter does not support the USB plug. Therefore if your camera uses a card size other than a SD, this adapter will not work. I am returning the adapter and looking for another option...if one exists...to temporarily store photos on my iPad Air when I travel.

    Poorly Designed

    • Written by from North Canton

Very poorly designed! It will not work if you have your iPad in a case. The 8 pin connector is not long enough to make contact with the electrodes in the iPad because of the extra thickness of the case.

Bad design, fragile, no other choice

    • Written by from Solana Beach

The adapter is bulky and hangs off the edge of the iPad Air in a fragile manner. I'm afraid I'm going to damage my iPad. It doesn't work when a case is one the iPad, and I'm afraid I'm going to damage my iPad without a case on it. Unfortunately, have no other choice cause Traktor DJ with a Z1 controller requires the 30pin to Lightning adapter.

    Poor design.

    Waste of $29!!

    • Written by from Butler

I bought the lightning pin adapter and it has never worked. I bought it to use at school with my VGA cable that is connected to my projector. When I would attach it and then attach one of the new iPads it would say "not an apple cable". It was an Apple cable. I ended up having to and buy the $49 VGA cable with the lighting pin and switch them out depending on which iPad or iPod I want to connect. It was a waste of $29.

    Waste of money

    • Written by from Madison

I just did a big upgrade from an iphone 3S to a 6 Plus. In anticipation of the switch over, I purchased this adapter. First off, my reason for purchasing it was to reduce the cost of replacing all my chargers (I have at least 4 of them), however, the adapter is so expensive that I might as well just buy new cords. Secondly, the 6 Plus does not have many case options yet and the cases available did not have a large enough opening at the base where the charger connects for me to actually use this adapter without first removing the case. Looks like I just wasted my money and will be stuck buying new cords since constantly removing the hard case on my phone would be ridiculous.

Doesn't work with the Apple iPhone 5s leather case!!!!

    • Written by from Nashville

Apple almost got it right but not quite. The adapter looks and works great. However, to my disbelief, the design doesn't work if your iPhone 5/5s is enclosed in Apple's own leather case. They should have designed the adapter with a little neck that could have fit inside the hole at the bottom of the case. Since it is a lack of compatibility between two Apple products I just can't believe it...

    Not great for iPhone 6

    • Written by from San Francisco

The adaptor works but is not well suited for the iPhone 6. The reason is that the phone is curved and the adaptor is straight. The connection is pretty loose and comes out a lot. I would recommend getting the lightening cable adapter if not using with a dock.
