    Doesn't work

    • Written by

Tried using this to read a 64GB card in my 128 GB 4th generation iPad. It won't work. The cable to download from the camera doesn't work either. Both are fine with 32 GB cards, just not with the 64GB.

Compatibly should be listed on box!

    • Written by from Pocahontas

Very disappointing Christmas present. Compatibility should be listed on the outside of the box for items that only work with specific devices that have lightning ports. Only states in the directions inside that it works with an iPad, not an iPhone.

Incompatible with IO7 - why is it for sale in the Apple Store?

    • Written by from Nashua

So like the benevolent quasi-government that Apple tries to be it has broken yet another great product and has left it on its shelves for the unwary masses to purchase. What used to be a great device has now been rendered useless by yet another "upgrade". Sigh - no wonder Android bigots rant on about the openness of the system.

Stop trying to protect everyone from themselves.

Poor review of photos prior to download

    • Written by from Birmingham

This part needs a feature to review and edit card prior to all photos being downloaded to iPad. Too time consuming to remove unwanted photos from IPad.

Lightning to sd card reader not working

    • Written by from Plaquemine

Bought the card reader and every time I plug the reader into my iPad mini it keeps popping up a message saying that this reader is not certified and may not be reliable with this iPad and it does not work. Why?!?!?

Doesn't work with iPad mini retina or iPad 4 or iPhone 5S

    • Written by from Longmont

none of my apple iOS 7 devices recognize it. My iMacs and Macbook pro recognize it without a problem. pictures, videos taken with multiple cameras and videos taken with goPro do not work. The iOS 7 devices simply can't read it.

    Was using 32GB SanDisk extreme.

    64GB ipad 4
    64GB ipad mini retina
    32GB iphone 5S

    none worked at all.

    Worked beautifully for my uses

    • Written by from Norwalk

Used this to transfer photos from 3 of my cameras:
    GoPro HD Hero 3+
    Canon 5D Classic
    Sony Nex 6

All of my memory cards are 32GB and smaller

was able to upload photos from my gopro (uses mirco SD) with an SD adaptor. This worked wondefully, was able to see full res videos after transferring.

Worked fine with pictures shot in RAW and JPEG on my 5D classic (uses CF but have SD to CF adaptor). In iPhoto it recognizes that it is a raw image, but I am not sure if it converts to JPEG or reduces the size of the photo. I will compare file size compared on my computer vs iPad.

nex 6 worked fine, no issues std SD usage.

A little bit pricey but it worked well. If you don't want to wait for the import window to appear, open up pictures, and the import icon should show at the bottom in a few seconds or less.

    Sporadic

    • Written by from Jamaica Plain

This has worked sporadically for me. 9 times out of 10 it isn't recognized by my iPad Mini. When it is recognized it will import photos, unless I bump into the card reader… then it might become unrecognized.

H.264 format mandated works strictly only as a camera file reader

    • Written by from Schaumburg

I bought this cable to gift my mom the ipad with all photos from her visit to US. Since back home internet speed I decided to buy a large SD card dump about 60 GB of images into it and add it to the ipad. Well first the good things. this cable does support SDXC and that is the best part. And it reads images and shows thumbnails instantly under import section of moments. This requires the long route. Note the outer folder need to be DCIM or so as your DSLR would build then it has to have folders within it just 8 chars length H.264 standard domplaint. Say I had "New York" as folder name it wont show images until the folder is renamed as "New_York" 8 characters no spaces please! Then images should have just 8 chars and .jpg or RAW type.
like DSC_0001.jpg. Only then it works. Last the images cant be enlarged zoomed or rotated unless you import! so If you have 6000 you can import only a few at a time!
Folder wont show images instantly if more images are there. It just takes time to load everything in thumbnails.
Well if you have photos in different folders say "Brooklyn" and "New_York" it wont care for albums it will show them all in one well so all 6000 from 20+ albums will be jumbled that's the worst part! And you can rotate or have in slide show only the ones you import.
And for caution and safety always lock your memory card and insert as it will always show import all and delete all on top. Please lock your card else very easily you can loose all your images in one misfortunate click!
Well this reader just works! with so much to be known in fine print! But if you cant afford good internet, and need large storage for photos, and can't spend extra money for larger capacity ipads this is a good choice. It never works with iphone and Apple doesn't list it there as accessory for the phone so buy it only for ipad! Its good if you know how to use it wisely! And it supports SDHC and SDXC upto 64GB I tested it and works fine!

64GB SD card works fine if you have a 128GB iPad

    • Written by from Wilton Manors

I bought this for my 64GB iPad some months ago, and had the same problem others here mention, with it not reading a 64GB SD camera card. It would only read cards of 32GB or less. I have the latest version of the iPhoto app installed.

I just got a new 128GB iPad Air (a beautiful tablet, BTW). Out of curiosity I tried this reader with the Air and a 64GB SD card. Bingo, no problem!

I'm assuming the issue is that the iPad can't have an equal or smaller memory to the memory of any card it tries to read. With a 128GB iPad a 64GB card works fine.

I would therefore fault Apple for not making this situation clear in the advertising and instructions provided with this reader. I'll give it 4 stars for operating correctly in the right circumstances, and deduct a star for poor documentation.

    Found an alternative solution !

    • Written by from Leicester

Having tried the Apple connection kit with a number of SD cards and couldn't get it work with my iPad 4 with the iOS 7 update. I almost gave up hope. Then I stumbled upon a YouTube video with someone using an aftermarket connection kit. I did a bit of research and found one on eBay. I wasn't holding out for success but it worked ! Come on Apple if there are others that can make it work why can't you? The item I purchased was a quarter of the price your your option and it works.
I think Apple are missing a big opportunity here as customers ad getting frustrated and having to resort to other Market solutions to get a simple transfer from a camera to ipad connection. Not good enough.

    Wish This Worked With iPhone

    • Written by from Westbury

I bought this thinking I could use it with my iPhone (my bad for not fully reading the description). Since I now realize I can't I plan to return it. I'm sure it works great with iPad, and it's a great idea, but I can't understand why Apple wouldn't make one that is compatible with your iPhone?!

    Works Perfectly

    • Written by from sacramento

I have the same card reader for my Ipad 3 with the old connector, but needed the new lightning connector for my Ipad mini. This works perfectly and exactly like the other one. You plug it into the ipad, insert the card and it uploads onto iphoto. No problem, no delay. I have no idea how anyone found this difficult or challending. A great purchase.

    Read the compatibility section

    • Written by from Roswell

For crying out loud people! Read the compatibility section before giving the thing a 1 star rating. It only works with iPad and iPad mini. It specifically does not include the iPhone!

So far, my reader has worked with any card I put in it, but that's just me. I just wish the cable was a bit longer.

SD card reader works great, but why not built-in?

    • Written by from Medicine Hat

It works just as described. I copied all of my photos from the SDHC card to my iPad mini in seconds. Simple. Fast. Wonderful! No additional software required. It even copied over my movies. My only complaint - why doesn't my iPad have a built-in SD slot?

Technical details: Canon S110 with latest firmware, iPad mini with latest iOS, Verbatim Class 10 32 GB SDHC card. RAW file format.

Sour reviews may come from a time when Apple wasn't properly describing the compatibility of this product or from people who did not properly read Apple's website.
