I've purchased 4, and I am about to purchase my fifth cable, in a span of 1.5 years, no less!!! Why are your charger cables so cheaply made? I don't do anything out of the ordinary when I charge my iPad and they just stop working!!! You spend so much on the apple product, yet you spend just about as much on replacement cables. With all these customer complaints, has apple issued any recall notices that I'm not aware of? If not, you should think about it! This truly is an awful product. I expected a lot more from Apple!

    Nice and long

    • Written by from Cumberland

Power outlets are most often in the most inconvenient places. Sometimes it's just a struggle find one that's close enough. With this longer cable, you can still use your device comfortably even if it is charging at a far away outlet. Another thing is that the cord (but not the plug) is just a tiny bit thicker than the 1 metre cord Apple gives out with new iPhones and iPads. This makes it feel a little less flimsy.

    Broken again

    • Written by from Lightwater

This lightning design is just rubbish. I cant remember how many of these I have now bought...
The original 30 pin from past phones is still working years later. Come on Apple get your act together and sort this out.

    really bad

    • Written by from Thomasville

I've bought so many apple chargers I'm so done buying these useless chargers. Apple's products are already expensive enough, on top of that they want us spending money on a new cord like every month (thats an exaggeration), but seriously i've bought around 7 cords already not including my other family members in my household, apple really needs to fix this or they're going to lose customers for having bad quality cords.

    length upgrade

Sure are a lot of negative reviews on the charging cables. My wife and I must do something different because we have each had our iPhone 5 for two years and both still use the original cables. Not sure why everyone is having so many issues. A co-worker picked up an off brand 5ft cable from the phone store and experienced a connection problem but not with the Apple cable.

Expensive but not the cheap quality some claim

    • Written by from Milford

It's a cable, that's it - a cable. I've seen a lot of reviews on here complaining about how this is their 4th or 5th one - most of which allude to children, pets, or something else along those lines. I've had 4 cables total (all apple lightning cables) since the iPhone 5 came out (fall 2012). None of the cables have given me ANY issues. Then again, I'm a young professional who doesn't have pets that chew through cables, children who eat/bend them, or the IQ to try and eat or treat my cables like play-doh. Only complaint I have about the cable is that it is horrendously expensive, but you can consider that the "apple tax".

Pretty much what everyone else has said

    • Written by from Boughton Underblean

Now off to get my third charger within less than a year of having this cable. I had the 4S for over two years and didn't need to replace the cable once. Yes this new charger can be put into the port both ways, but I'd rather have a cable I have to turn over which takes about 0.5 seconds than one that I have to spend about 3 hours going into town and coming home again with a new one guaranteed to break again every couple of months. Apple are full of empty promises and when they come with a new feature another one goes down the drain.

Bought this cable on Dec 19th and have used it many times since. I have not had any problems with the cable failing and the quality on it is excellent. I still have my original Lightning to USB cable for my iphone 5s and I have never had any problems even though I coil the cable and just toss it around in my backpack.

The only thing that I would wish for would be for the cable to be at least 3m in length.

Horrible. Is Apple reading these reviews??

    • Written by from Forest Hills

The cables are crazy weak. I already have killed like 4 within last two years. I was hoping with iPhone 6 there will be new quality but I guess I was wrong. GET IT DONEA AND MAKE BETTER CABLES.

Do Not Purchase Under any Circumstances

    • Written by from Boston

I'm on my second one (purchased from an Apple Store) - the white rubber sheathing begins to come apart at the end where the lightening plug is. It's happened to both of them. I actually experienced a small electric shock from the last cable. It requires duck tape until you purchase another cable. The quality is very low and it's obviously a manufacturers defect. I'm very surprised as Apple quality is normally very high. I could not recommend this product.

I have not had the issues that others have here. My cables last until my cleaning lady runs the vacuum cleaner over it and shreds it or until my cats have decided to chew through it. Just using it for my phone, it is conveniently long and lasts until the previously mentioned incidents.

    iPhone Lighting Cable Helpful Hint

    • Written by from San Antonio

If you are having problems with the ends of your cables bending and breaking you can use the springs from pens ton the ends to strengthen them. I've been doing this since before the iphone 6 plus came out and have yet had any problems with my cables.

    Keep breaking cables

    • Written by from Howard

Think the problem with the cables is the "reversible" design, it put undo strain on the plugs because of push/pull like folding a piece of metal back and forth

    Very disappointed in Apple

    • Written by from Hampton

I purchased a replacement cord for my iPhone 5s and my iPad Mimi. Both use the same cord. The cord broke just like the first one included with device. I always thought that Apple made high quality products. Boy wae I wrong. What gets me is the longer 6 foot cord is sturdier. Sturdier for the cord part. The Lightning connector on this replacement cord broke just like the first one. The connection point where the cord feeds into the adapter needs better reinforcement so it won't break. I have noticed that most of the reviews for this accessory are very much like this one. With the exception of a few people who I expect haven't had the cord long enough for it to break, the reviews are the same. Your devices are top of the line. Your accessories should be, too. I will order one more cord and depending on the length of time it lasts, I will change to another brand besides Apple. Fix it, because it makes your company seems like it doesn't care.

I have gone through about 6 or 7 of these charging cords in the last year and a half. This week I went through 2...These cords are so expensive and useless..they don't even last more than a couple months! Like everyone else said in their reviews... Apple needs to fix this issue!

Meets My Expectations & Does Its Job Well

    • Written by from Los Gatos

First, I'm glad to see a much smaller cable head compared to the 30-pin head from previous generations. I'm also a fan of the new design which no longer has a hollow component prone to dust/lint. The fact that it's now also omni-directional makes it easier to quickly insert-and-charge.

I'm not sure why so many people complain about the manufacturing quality. Not only do I still have my original cable from my iPhone 5S purchase (December, 2013), but I also have my original cable from my iPod Touch purchase (May, 2013). Both function perfectly just like the first day out of the box, and I've never needed to purchase a replacement cable due to damage.

I use my cable like the (I believe) average customer: charge my iPhone a couple of times a day (in the car and at home), sync my iPhone and laptop weekly, and back it up monthly. Since one cable is always in my car, I use the other everywhere else, constantly unplugging and re-plugging it to take to work, school, then back home, etc. I coil it neatly to prevent kinks, and keep it from ending up under the heavy books in my backpack. Sure, the occasional friend will borrow it for a quick charge, but that's about all... It's not I play tug-o-war with it.

Anyway, take care of this cable like every other normal adult would, and it'll work perfectly fine for at least another generation or two.
... You wouldn't use your iPhone to prop up the short leg of an uneven table, right?

"4 Stars" because it sufficiently meets my expectations.
"5 Stars" if it could brew my coffee.

    Worst cord EVER

    • Written by from Brooklyn

I upgraded my IPhone from a 4 to a 6 in October, 2014 and purchased this cord.....WORST CORD EVER. Didn't even work for two months. You would think with the technology that Apple has it would produce a cord that lasts longer that 48 days. Never had this problem with the 4 cord. I wouldn't mind paying $30 for a cord that lasted, but less than 2 months is ridiculous!

Maybe they should focus on the cable now

    • Written by from Regina

These cables are horrible quality.. Everyone I buy breaks and I am honestly thinking about getting a new phone that has a decent charger. Maybe you should worry about the cable instead of the size of our phones because all of them break. I had 3 brake for my iPhone 4, and I just got my phone in the summer and my iPhone 5s cable is already broken.

COME ON! surely as much as you pay for apple brand items they should be made to last!! Horribly made, we are a family of 5 & all have iphone 5's every charger that came with our phones broke!! Not sure if I will be buying anymore iPhones for this reason.....
Must have inside people who left those 5 star reviews. :(
