    does the job

    • Written by from Hanmer

even though I share some of the frustrations some have express in the switch to another connector; I fully understand why. This connector is much smaller and convenient to use. The adapters work very well with my old 30-pin house and car accessories.
Apple should try lowering the costs of these cables and adapters.

    Too Short

    • Written by from Houston

I don't understand why Apple thinks this short length is even usable for most applications.
They need to offer a longer length.

    Much better WHEN it works

    • Written by from Warrington

Had it for two weeks then it stopped working and gave me error messages on my Mac and in my car saying it was using too much power. But otherwise it works well and is much better than the 30 pin.

It's a cable. The ONLY cable.

    • Written by from MANHATTAN BEACH

    pro:
the new design means there is it's easier to insert in the phone which is a huge plus when in a hurry or in the car. the 9-pin port is a brilliant by-product of the changes in phone design to accommodate the other upgrades.

    con:
the form factor was upgraded but it's still USB 2.0?

i bought 3 of these in addition to the one that came with the phone so that i wouldn't have to move this cable from room to car to room. it is a necessity (at least for me) but there was no joy in purchasing these.

    Improvement

    • Written by from Albuquerque

A bit short, but the male end is nice and small, reversible. It's a tight fit on my iPOD Touch-5. Buying the adapter for the old style? Think again. A new cable is cheaper, and do you really want a bulky adapter in the way?

    Too Short

    • Written by from Chino Hills

I really don't understand why adding another 2-3 feet to this cable is so hard. Please sell them in different sizes if third party's can't. Other than that, it does the job. I like this cable way better than the older cable.

Always good to have some of these.

    • Written by from Richmond Hill

Well since the adapter cost more than this little thing, I figured, better to stock up with this than the adapter. Looks like we're going to need to get used to it. Works like you'd expect. It charges and/or syncs to your computer.

Can't fault it for what it is. 5/5 of because it is just that.

After 4 months say goodbye to your charger...

    • Written by from Denver

You gotta end up bendin the cord several ways just to get the dang thing to charge after about 4 months. I wish I never upgraded to the 5. What a terrible decision. And I'm sorry but it ain't worth 21$ dollars, if it breaks after 3-4 months. Change the price and fix this apple, you call yourselves a top company? Right...if I were a new customer, or repeat customer, buy multiple chargers or you're basically s.o.l.

    horrible

    • Written by from Fullerton

ive had this for just over 3 months and the cable near the lightning end is all scrunched up and now it won't charge my phone unless i spend 5 minutes maneuvering the phone into a specific position so that it will charge and then i can't even touch it otherwise it will disconnect. i like the idea of the lightning over the 30 pin, but in terms of quality and implementation, i am very disappointed by this piece of s product i received.

All 3 of my cables work just fine

    • Written by from Philadelphia

The cable that came with the iPhone 5 as well as the other 2 that I ordered from the Apple store work fine. Why three...because the more you carry cables around the more they can be damaged. So I have one home, one in the SUV, and one at work. This new smaller design also fits well with the two layer Trident case. I didn't give it 5 stars because of the lack of availability...I'll change it if they reimburse me for shipping.

great charger, great design, but too short

    • Written by from Humble

I really like the new plug design and the fast charging. I like the feel of the new plug, and that there is no front or back orientation.

I however think the cord is too short, and presents a hazard. I'm a careful person, but even with a table sitting directly next to an outlet, it is almost too short to reach without straining the cord.

No need for complaints. Works just like before.

    • Written by from Macomb Township

First, I demoted this review from 5 stars to 4 stars because I truly believe Apple should have implemented "TRUE" speed for this new cable, such as USB3.0 or Thunderbolt speed. However, they have not done that and we all need to forget about it.

Now, the cable itself is truly a great design. The smaller profile and reversible capability ensures the cable will last some length of time. The cord length is not a concern because if you want longer than 3.5 feet, get a USB extension. Also, I have found no improper functionality when plugging my new iPhone 5 into my vehicle. This was a pretty important need for me because my 2010 Honda CR-V comes equipped with a USB connection located in the glove box, allowing me to control the iPhone directly from the radio buttons. Plugging my new iPhone 5 into my vehicle resulted in no issues and all controls are the same. This was a concern I had due to the different pin configuration by the lighting cable.

Needless to say, there is no need to be disappointed towards the cable itself. Want it longer? Buy a USB extension. Want it to be faster for data transfer? Buy a MAC. It's a cable folks. It works.

    Need to sell them now

    • Written by from Port Charlotte

For some people it may be inconvenient not to have them on the shelves yet. Wether you are dumb enough to allow the phone to drop off a desk and break the connector or just simply travel and would like the ability to have a few spares between locations, Apple needs to get these out on the market. If anyone has broken or cut a cable accidently, you are screwed to say the least. I do like the design of this cable. It is unique and simole for the new iphone. Well done, now just get more on the shelves.

    Why get the 30-pin adapter?

    • Written by from La Mesa

I got one for my car, one for work, and one for my travel kit. Probably should be cheaper, but it's no worse than dock connector cables and appears far more rugged. Great option if you already have a USB power port or adapter in your car, and much cheaper than the 30-pin-to-lightning adapter. The packaging is quite impressive, too, if you're into that sort of thing.

    Lightning connector fails the test

    • Written by from New York

I've had the new connector for only 2 weeks and the head separated from wire already, it is very flimsy. Now I am forced to buy an attachment to go back to the 30 pin connector, an additional 29.99.
Apple - if the intention was for the consumer to spend more in accessories, then it worked!

    Why not a micro usb?

    • Written by from Las Vegas

We purchased 4 new iphones for the family. One cable went out within 24 hours and was replaced by Apple. Another one seems to be wobbly but so far so good. 25% failure rate does not bode well.

You don't have any in stock? Wow

    • Written by from Limerick

I bought 2 iPhone 5s which I love, but I only have 1 charger. Am I supposed to carry the charger to work with me every day? Why do I have unplug the charger every morning to bring down to my iMac just to sync my iTunes? The reason is your supply chain for these cables stink!!! You could have at least included a free converter with the iPhone. How does the biggest and best company not prepare for the cable shortage issue?
