This cable always breaks. Why is it so hard to build one that lasts?

this cable, regardless of the length is NOT DURABLE, short-lasting, short, as the previous negative reviews confirm. I'm on my 3rd cable in a 11 months by extremely carefully laying the cable so that is does not TWIST or FOLD, a RIDICULOUS responsibility.

Every cable I have bought works for a week, then stops working...

    • Written by from Alexandria

These cables are no good. I have four cables bought from apple and none of them work. They connect, disconnect, connect, disconnect, over and over. I wake up just about everyday with no battery life on my phone. I've had to stop relying on my phone as an alarm because I'm afraid the battery will die at night and my alarm will not go off. To charge your phone you have to put it on airplane mode and hold the cable in place. I have decided to not purchase an apple phone next time I am up for an upgrade(in 3mths!) on my phone service because of this charging problem. It is a pretty large necessity and too much of a headache to worry about. It seems like the last thing you should have to worry about, but it's the only thing I worry about. Worthless product. Goodbye Apple.

This cable is so poorly made I've had to replace it at least 5 times. I don't know if Apple is doing this on purpose to rake in more money, or just have poor quality control, but the result is infuriating. Please please please CHANGE THE DESIGN OF THE CABLES. Thinking about changing to another phone simply because of this cord

How many negative reviews does it take for Apple to admit that they have a HORRIBLE design on this lightning to USB cable. I personally am fed up with having to buy close to a dozen of these cables just to use my iPhone and iPod, because the lightning end of this cable CONSTANTLY breaks. While the initial thought on this lightning connecter was a good idea, the engineering of this could not be any worse! Please fix this Apple!!

    Cheap cord

this cord is cheap and breaks too easily. I have replaced 3 in 8 months. If there was a zero star rating I would rate it that.

    Breaks Easily

    • Written by from Oshawa

I have been through 5 of these now and got my iPod 5 back on November 29th, 2013, so I've only had the device for just over a year. 2 of them were Apple's stock ones, and 3 were 3rd party. The Apple ones lasted longer, but still break which isn't expected by Apple. I really do expect more from Apple and wish I could get a refund.

    Built in Obsolescence

    • Written by from Toms River

I've now gone through 10 of these wires, because every one after about 2 months gets bent, cutting the power from the source to the end and ultimately not allowing my phone to charge unless I find the charger g spot. It's pathetic that a household name like Apple can't make a product that's durable enough to last at least 8-12 months, especially for the price of a standalone wire. Not to mention without a USB to USB extention cord they're a useful way to trap people to one spot in their house for about an hour. Something needs to be done to fix this massive design flaw.

    Shame to Apple

    • Written by from Riga

This does not fit into my head - how the most valuable company on this planet cannot solve such a trivial issue as cable quality - I have replaced 4 of them within last year and have turned to non-original cables at the end - they cost 5-10 times less and last 3 times more!

I've been through 4 of these and it's been a year since I've had the phone. And can I just go out and buy one? Nope. They're nowhere. These cables are terrible, but yet I have to keep buying them to charge my phone. Apples about to lose a customer.

    Lightning cables ruined everything

I have owned 30+ lightning cables, and they all broke due to the poor construction of them or for no apparent reason. They just stop working, and it's terrible.

One of the worst cables I have ever had to put up with.

    • Written by from Manchester

I've had this cable for four months, and apparently that's all it takes for the thing to die. When it wasn't broken, it worked fine. I like the idea of quick plug-in, but the cord is much too short, causing me to have to use an extension cord just to use my iPad while it's on charge. But, as mentioned before, the cable has given up, so I have to go out and buy a new one.

Poor Quality - IOS redesign partly to blame.

    • Written by from Orange

My family has 8 Apple products that use lightning cables. Apple makes great products - this cable is not one of them. iPhone users plug in this cable at least once per day, so the cable needs to be very robust. I agree with the negative reviews as far as the nature of the problem - despite careful use these cables break often.

An important point that most reviewers have not really touched on concerns the issue that this hardware problem is compounded by a redesign of IOS allowing you iPhone or iPad to "reject" a cable - thus causing them to stop working. Agree?

    they don't work

    • Written by from Swansea

I've got about 20 of these cables floating around the house from iPhone 5, iPhone 5s, iPad mini, iPad Air 2 and iPhone 6 Plus, they have all stopped working, these are original cables from the devices when bought brand new, and cables bought from Apple stores ! It's disgusting that a company like apple cannot appear to be able to design and implement a cable, yet can build an iPad or iPhone !

I am at a point where I'm going to seek the lot of them and take my business elsewhere, I have spent over £2000 on devices that cannot be charged because Apple doesn't know how to make cables that work, all other phone companies use usb cables that don't go wrong, they are simple and fit almost any other manufacturer devices. I'm not sure why the EU allows Apple to get away with this as they are supposed to have chargers that comply with the usb mini standard.

I'm sitting here right now on my iPhone 6 Plus writing this with the original charger plugged in, guess what? It's not charging !
