Terrible. Short Life Span and Overpriced.

    • Written by from barnstaple

I don't mind paying for good quality. But I have gone through 4 lightning cables (no out of the ordinary treatment of them) in one year.

Overpriced even by apple standards, you'd expect better quality. Feels like a knock-off. I feel like they're milking me for money and it's enough to put me off iPhones after 7 years of service. Sort it out.

Absolute Garbage, where is apple headed?

    • Written by from Odessa

I've had my ipad for literally 2 weeks and the cord is so cheap and flimsy that it has stopped working all ready. I know it's the cord because it charges with other cords, like my iPhone 5 cord. Where is apple headed? This is the kind of cheap oversight that makes you wonder about the quality of their products. If they cheap out on the cords, who's to say they don't cheap out on the screens, or batteries, or camera in the ipad?

    SO DISAPPOINTED!!!

    • Written by from Toronto

I've wanted an iPhone for the longest time and when I finally got one, I was so excited! Although I have been enjoying the iPhone, there are two things that are SO FRUSTRATING!! The first thing is the battery life. I NEVER have battery, and my friends are always laughing at me because every time they see me, my phone would be dead. I was sucking it up until this "lightning" usb cable broke. Like....I DIDN'T EVEN HAVE IT FOR A YEAR YET!??!!?!??! Now not only do I have a phone that dies quickly, I CAN'T EVEN CHARGE IT ALTOGETHER!!! I am honestly so disappointed and frustrated. These lightning cables are not even cheap and you would think Apple would have good quality products. Please fix this Apple, the iPhone is already so expensive I can't have another added $21 expense every couple of months!!!!

    Absolute horrible quality.

Mine only lasted a month then it stopped working properly. My brother had to get himself a new one too, his lasted him a month as well. Apple makes these chargers so that they break easily and you can keep wasting your money buying new ones,

    This is sad

    • Written by from Asker

Two broken cables after under a year, have to buy a third one now. I have read many other reviews. I can assure you that I am not the only one. How could the designers in apple sleep at night, living with the conscience of having created such a worthless product? I hope this is not some sick way of making extra money.

By the way I have now figured out how to prolong the lifetime of the cable. Whenever you unplug it, hold the hard plastic part of the charger instead of the soft rubber part.

    Consider Customer Usability

    • Written by from Lindenhurst

Why would you make a cable in flexible rubber that breaks from flexing? Oh you used your cable to charge your phone and moved it around while it's connected? We at apple didn't anticipate such use but we are happy to provide you with another for $20. Were all the apple engineers from five years ago fired? The iPhone 5 lasts about an hour when used sparingly and when you try to charge it with a broken cable no bueno. Yes I did the spring mod to try to save the cable, no it didn't work. No I didn't take it on some extreme sport adventure. This cable has been on my bed for it's miserable life and that's it. Why can't you put just a little more effort into this one little thing? Does it save that much money for the company? When the risk analysts went over how much it would costs to replace these did you figure that people would just be lazy and buy new cables? When did quality give way to junk? If this is a telling of the direction of the company then good luck in the long term.

    broken

    • Written by from Regina

i bought my ipod about 5 months ago and now the usb cable that came with it is completely useless. After no strenuous use whatsoever, the"lightning" entire head of the cable broke off. I now have to buy a $20 cable that will probably break again within the next few months and if I want a reasonably long cable I have to pay $30. Yay.

    WORST CHARGER IN THE WORLD!

    • Written by from Lynn

This charger is literally the worst ! I have had my iPhone 5 for a little over a year now and I have repeatedly had my charger all of a sudden stop working and be fried to buy a new one. I am about to buy my 3rd one ! This is ridiculous! For the amount of money we pay for these devices, you'd think that the least Apple could do was create an effective charger. Before this phone, I had an iPhone 3gs which was handed down to me by my cousin who previously had it for 2 years. I then had the phone for 2 years and not once did that charger break. I still use it to this day for my iPod. Its also not fair because not everyone has the money to buy a new charger so frequently. I believe that the charger to last just as long (if not longer) than the time that you have the phone. Point is this charger is absolute rubbish so be expected to pay $19 every few months or so.

    Poor Quality

    • Written by from Trenton

Apple really needs to look into the quality of the lightning to USB Cables. I seem to be spending more now on replacing these cables than any other accessory. They should last for more than a year! I bought one that just stopped working, no reason. Tried to connect it to various USB devices and just doesn't charge phone. The other cable is coming apart at the base of the lightning connector. I basically use one at home, one at the office, and keep another in the car. 2 out of the 3 have been poor. Now I am looking for either a third-party option...$20 plus tax every time is getting a bit much!!!

    NOT DURABLE AT ALL!

    • Written by from Dayton

I've used this charger for about 10 months now (pushing/forcing through the last 3-4) and it has finally stopped working. I only use it to charge my phone on my nightstand and occasionally plug it into my MacBook to sync with iTunes. The problem is that it's short so I keep having to reposition it or tug away at it on my nightstand and the lightning-end of the cable got all scrunched up like another user below noted and for a while, I had to maneuver, move around and position the cable a certain way for it to charge but now it's completely done. I'm disappointed to say the least because for one, this wouldn't happen if the cable was longer (or they were actually selling a longer cable). Second, why am I paying $20 for a piece of no-good cable that breaks in less than 1 year and that probably cost less than $1 to make? It doesn't make sense. I love Apple and their products in general but I hate how they exploit their loyal customer base with these over-priced, no-good accessories that you ABSOLUTELY NEED! I used to have like 4-5 30-pin cables just laying around, now I don't even have 1 extra lightning cable just because it's such a waste of money and most of the non-OEM cables out there are literally junk... Anyways, I'm actually debating taking this to an Apple store and asking for a replacement for free as this cable should have a 1 year manufacturer warranty.

    One per month

I've spent nearly a 100$ so far since I've had my iPhone due to these adaptors breaking or simply stop working for no given reason. To add to my frustration none of my car adaptors are accepted by my phone meaning there have been times I've had absolutely no way of charging my phone

    Questionable Product

    • Written by from Stouffville

Although I love the iPhone 5 and the new design, I've been having many problems with my charger. I purchased my device a month or two after it was released and I am currently trying to purchase my seventh charger. I do not know whether this at the fault of apple or me to be honest. I realized that it was my fault for using a high power wall charger which eventually BURNED the bottom of my charger. If you aren't using the appropriate wall charger for your device; then this might be your fault. If not, then this might be an issue of Apples. I know that my sister who has an iPhone 4 also experiences the same issues as me since she used a high powered wall charger that wasn't appropriate for her phone, so ensure that you''re choosing the right products for your device. For those complaining that the charger is "too short"; you can always purchase an USB connection cord, or just purchase the 2m charger that is also available. It is quite pricey for a charger, I feel it should be more convenient...
Anyways; I personally believe that the design and simplicity are AMAZING, it is so much more easier for me to use my phone and also to use the charger. I hope apple can help find a resolution to why the chargers always crinkle and burn under the lightning section. Other than that, this product is amazing! Keep up the great work, Apple!

    Great Cable

    • Written by from Granger

Honestly, I don't know what it is with all the negativity about this product. The lighting works fine for me, been charging my iPad, iPod, iPhone without any problems. The cable is much smaller than the 30 pin connector, and I like how the lighting cable can be plugged in no matter what side your using vs the 30 pin which only can be plugged in one way (very annoying when you plug it in wrong.)

Terrible value... been through so many

    • Written by from Hillsboro

I'm very disappointed in Apple! I got an iPod touch 5th gen last Christmas, and this cable came with it. It lasted maybe a month or two, until it started bending and stopped working. I brought it into the store and they said I would have to purchase a new one, and they wouldn't replace it. For 20 dollars? No way. I bought a few online from a cheap website for around 1 - 2 dollars each , all of which lasted longer than Apple's. I'm very disappointed in Apple's new cords! I had an iPod touch 3rd gen awhile ago, and never had this problem. I went through one cord for the 4 or so years I had it! They shouldn't have even changed the lightning USB cable if they weren't going to make a quality cord for it. I would not recommend this product, go find some cheaper.

I am headed to the Apple store to replace my cable. I just got the 5s a little over a month ago and already the device is saying the cable is not compatible. This happened on my iPhone 5 too. Not a well made product at all. Love my phone though!

    Dreadful!!!

    • Written by from London

I've been through 10+ of these stupid cables since owning an iPhone 5 which I purchased oct 2012. Apple truly need to get their act together and design something which lasts or customers like me will start using other brands.

I've even tried using other brands to combats the issue but apple are too crafty by making other brands incompatible forcing us to use their brands.

    Pathetic!!

    Unhappy customer.
