I had my iPad mini for 5 month now and I'm already on my THIRD charger! THIS IS HONESTLY REDONCULOUS AS PEWDIEPIE SAYS! The Chargers are 21 freakin dollars each and they don't even last! I have a Samsung for 3 years and it's first charger still works wonderfully! LIKE COME ON! We pays $20 for ever single charger! You can do better! I bet the budget for a charger right now is like what, 5 cents? Look at all the negative comments Apple! It's getting frustrating!

I genuinely enjoy Apple products, in fact everything I own is made by the company. And I was ecstatic when they finally decided to change the connector from 30-pin to lightning. The connector itself is brilliant and causes me absolutely no trouble...the cable itself however is a different story. I bought my iPhone in December 2012 and to date I have bought THREE of these cables because every time the cable (not the connector) frays and ceases charging. I am sure not to use my iPhone while charging or contort it in any way but it doesn't seem to matter. I still have a really old 30-pin cable (the one with the buttons on the side) and I did everything with that cord and it still looks and works like new. 30-pin cable: concept was poor, quality was impeccable. Lightning cable: the exact opposite. As I've stated, I like Apple and the fact they value innovation. Yet it behooves me that they have time to design and manufacture Apple Watch but still haven't fixed iPhone's TERRIBLE battery-life (who wants to spend the day searching for outlets to charge), Maps (disgraceful app and I can't even delete it) and the ever notorious lightning cable. Apple, DO BETTER.

    Horrible, Horrible, Horrible.

    • Written by from Winter Park

When I bought my iPhone 5 (the week it came out) I was so excited, as I was switching over from Android, & the new lightning chargers looked so much nicer than the old ones, & more practical in size. My original charger broke within a month. Since then, I have literally gone through at the very LEAST 20 of these babies, & I am not even exaggerating. The money I have spent on replacements I could have bought a new phone with! Granted at first, I WAS being a bit rough on them (yanking them out by the cord, etc). I quickly realised how fragile these chargers were & started being much more careful & gentle with them. Alas, they STILL break far too easily. I've tried about every brand I've come across. Cheaper ones break in about a week, ones from my phone shop last a month or two, maybe three. This is absolutely ridiculous & I expected WAY more from Apple. Please work on the quality of these chargers, they are god-awful no matter where you buy them from. As much as I love my phone, I am just about ready to go back to Android if something is not done about these terrible chargers. If I could, I would have given this zero stars.

    Prefer the original cords

    • Written by from London

I absolutely hate the new cord. I bought an extra one to keep in my purse in case of emergencies. It broke and the original one already broke. They don't even last a few months. You would think for spending $21 they would be durable. The old original ipod chargers, I loved how they locked and also how they lasted.

I'm on my 3rd apple lighting cable for an iPhone I bought in March - not even 8 months of use!!. When I borrowed a friend's cable (because mine kept failing) I got a warning message on my iPhone saying the cable was not a certified apple product and may not work properly. It then refused to charge my phone. It's frustrating that this cable is wreaking havoc on so many loyal Apple consumers. Apple - you need to fix this!!

Like many other one-star reviewers here, I don't understand how Apple can continue to put its name on this complete piece of garbage.

I'm on my second of these cables, and this one lasted WAY less long than the first one: the outer shielding of the cable *will* eventually bubble, then split, separate, and begin to fall off completely.

Apple has a captive customer base, though, as long as they continue to force us to purchase inferior accessories lest we receive the "not supported" nag we get when using third-party cables.

    Waste of money

    • Written by from Burlington

Since buying an iPhone 5 about a year and a half ago, I have gone through at least 5 of these cables as they all stopped charging properly (if at all) within a few months. They have been a huge waste of money and these issues are so aggravating. I love my other apple products and I loved my old iPhone but after the battery and cable issues I have had with the iPhone 5 I don't know if I will be sticking with apple when it comes times to replace my phone - if I even finish my contract.

    VERY poorly made.

    • Written by from Edmonton

i'll start by saying there's nothing wrong with the function of the cable itself. it charges the devices that it's supposed to charge without any issues, it's the length and quality of the actual materials that are questionable. if you're simply using this to charge your devices overnight without actually using them, then this will be more than fine. 5/5 rating for that. however, if you like to use your devices to any extent while they're charging, i strongly suggest spending more money for something better.

as i said before, the length is fine if you're leaving it to charge UNTOUCHED. it does become a major issue when you want/have to actually use your devices as the insulation on the actual wire is very thin is damaged easily. i was left without any warning when mine stopped working, and couldn't charge my phone for 2 days. with no other alternate ways of charging my phone, my $700+ device was COMPLETELY USELESS. i had plugged my phone in to charge and didn't notice that the cable was bent at the time and when i woke up the next morning, my phone battery was at 89%(instead of being completely charged). i had to nurse the remaining battery for the next day or so and was unable to purchase a new one until 2 days later(my phone eventually ran out of power and was completely unusable). i would only get this cable if i had absolutely no other choice, or if it was free. it's definitely not worth the price on here or in any "authorized retailer". this is a classic case of buying simply for the brand name. pretty much EVERY 3rd party cable is better than this one, and cheaper and/or better made as well.

Breaks so easily, Go back to the 16 pin cable format were much more durable

    • Written by from Sterling

I'm on about my 5th lightning cable, they are way too fragile and just break/separate no matter how 'nice' to them you are. And the lightning cables I bought for the teens in our house, forget about it...those don't stand a chance. Please go back to the 16 pin cables, those were much sturdier and more durable..as you can see from all the negative reviews on these tiny, hard to grip to pull out, lightning cables.

Currently on my fourth cable and still counting! The plastic on both ends tend to loosen after about three months and the wires inside break really easily. Please save all apple users and fix this horrible product or just in total design a better, long lasting guaranteed cable. Not recommended product but there isn't anything else to recommend...

I charge my iPhone 2x/day. This thing only last about 3 months. That's about 180 times of use. They should last at least 1,000 inserts like standard usb cables. Apple needs to make a cordless charger standard on their next iPhone! Apple, look at these negative reviews!!!

This different design made me buy an adapter for my stereo which I was fine with. The USB cord, however, is way too short. It barely reaches my nightstand from an outlet that is right by my bed. It scrunched up within just a few months of me getting it and it would no longer charge my phone. I bought a generic brand USB cord and it was perfect! It was longer and it never scrunched up. Since the latest updates, my phone has warned me that uncertified products such as this one may not work reliably with my iPhone. Well, it's extremely frustrating that Apple can't compete with these BETTER products and are attempting to force customers to buy their mediocre accessories.

Never An Issue With This Cable

    • Written by from Holyoke

I have had the same cable since my upgrade to iPhone 5S 2 years ago. The cable and charger came in the box and have never let me down. I am reading through all the negative comments on here and having owned the iPhone 4, iPod, and iPad that all share the same wide pin adapter I think Apple went out of its way with regard to innovation to redesign the housing, motherboard assembly, and all associated peripherals that will run the new equipment with these cables. This cable is not as fragile as its predecessors. We all need to remember that they are not meant to be wrapped around fingers or just yanked out of the sockets or bent at angles that NOTHING should be bent at. My cable is going to last until I ipgrade to the iPhone 6, and then when I hand this phone down to my daughter it will be broken. Do I know why? Yes. Because my daughter is not careful with her electronics, falls asleep with iPad and iPhone in bed and cables bent awkwardly as she sleeps. Do I get mad? No. Why. Because the cable was designed for people to use per the instructions and though I looked, there was no section on protecting a cable from a teenager. Sorry, everyone, but some (not all) of us need to look at what we are asking these cables to do before complaining. Yes, I do understand that manufacturing errors can arise and affect a large amount of material and those need to be dealt with. Giving it 1 star for being too short? Cmon...

    The best connector out there...PERIOD!!

    • Written by from Irvine

Even USB is now copying the Lightning connector. Fantastic design. Have been using mine ever since it was released, how many ever years ago. Works like a charm. Most of the people complaining here have never purchased or used it. They are just hacks from competitors, trying to create a false impression about this product. I would accept reviews only from verified buyers.

I had my iPad Air for around 10 months (a very long time!!) and it just broke today I'm so annoyed because now my iPad is on 34% and I've NEVER had a problem with the 30 pin USB cable
My sister and cousins have the same problem as well I'm sure it's not the port that is broken but it's the cable

WOW Apple really good quality for a USB Cable !!!
