    Same as everyone else...

    • Written by from Kansas City

I am very sick of replacing this cable. It doesn't even fray or break on the outside. Most of the time the wire starts getting too hot near the plug and it starts to lose connection a month or so later. This is the same with all Apple cables I have had, including the computer chargers (though those last about twice as long). I don't even travel too hard with either, I try to keep dedicated cables at home, work, and car so that they aren't moved to much.

This is a poor quality cable with a limited lifespan

    • Written by from Versonnex

Like others who have reviewed, I have gone through 3 cables in less than 2 years. I expected a good quality product from Apple - but evidently this cable is not as good as other manufacturers charging cables.

I have had to replace my iPhone cable 3 times in the last year because these are such bad quality. The high price of these cables does not reflect their poor quality and design.

I have 4 of these Apple lightning cords And only 1 of them still works. Sadly, it has to be maneuvered around to get it to charge. I am not sure why Apple decided to switch to this type but they need to switch back or improve the quality of these lighting chargers. It is simply unacceptable for people to have to continue replacing these cords. They are expensive and only last around 3 months. I don't yank mine out of my phone and have been extra careful trying to make them last but it hasn't helped.

Dear Reader, forum admin, and people at Apple,

I used to love you. I've owned every generation of iphone, 6 iPods, and an iPad. I've loved everything until now. My first mistake was believing such good things wouldn't end. -My second was buying an iphone 5.

-My third mistake was buying an iphone 5s.

I've spent well over a $100 in original Iphone 5 chargers for my iphone 5, and now I'm buying my SIXTH cable for my 5s as they break THE SAME WAY AS THE OTHERS. Whether they were aftermarket, "official AT&T" or OEM apple, they were all rubbish! I'm heart broken, upset, and giving up. My upgrade is due in 30 days, and I noticed no change in cable design for the iphone 6. You had my money from the start, but now greed and poor design have pushed away a loyal, customer.

Maybe you'll change with the iphone 7. Who knows? But don't worry about me, Apple. I'm getting a Note or maybe the Ubuntu phone. Whatever it may be, I know and you know it won't be the iphone 6 or 6s.

Crushed, disappointed, and a bit betrayed,
    Me.

Don't turn around cause you're gunna see my heart breaking.

    Horrible

    • Written by from Lake Oswego

These are the worst cable I have ever owned. I got my iPhone 6 at Christmas, and have already gone through 3 cables of different lengths and just this morning another broke so now I have to go buy a new one. They are flimsy and poorly made. I had an iPhone 4s for 3 years and had the same charging cable the whole time. My cat would chew on that cord and nothing would happen,,,, I'm not sure what happened when apple designed these ones but they NEED to change. Worst part is that I was told that the cables aren't included in my Apple Care - so I paid an extra $100 when I got my phone and it won't cover the $20 every few weeks I have to pay to keep my phone running. Seriously considering switching back to my old phone or just charging on a dock at this point. Very disappointed in Apple's product and customer service.

    terrible

    • Written by from Victoria

Every authentic apple cord I've ever owned has been so bad that they literally begin to disintegrate. Its obvious they went for style over function as the soft-touch material looks and feels great when it's 100% new, but its clear they're made to become dirty and wear out extremely quickly. Usually noticeably dirty and worn after just a few weeks, fraying in about half a year, falling apart after a year or more.

The 3rd party cords are waaaaay better and can be found as low as a a buck or two. For shame, Apple.

    Poorly Made Cable

    • Written by from Waipahu

The quality of the cable is absolutely terrible. The cable near the lightning end of it somehow got pinched and now it won't charge unless the cable and the wires inside are at a certain angle. If they're not, it doesn't charge and you might get that idiot message saying something like "this accessory may not be supported". How dumb is that when it's Apple's own cable, not like a off-market product.

Shoddy workmanship, shoddy product. I'd give it no star if I could.

    Cheap & Useless Cord

    • Written by from Toronto

I've gone through numerous cords for the iphone 5. It's so poorly made. The newest one I replaced just a few weeks ago is already causing me problems. As I know that these have a history of falling apart easily, I have been careful when handling to charge my phone. I have to plug it in and take it out a bunch of times before it works. Sometime I have to giggle the cord for it to work and when that doesn't work, I have to go without a phone. Why are these so poorly made??? This is my first iphone and most likely my last. It is not worth the money and Apple should be handing these out for free to us paying customers. I can't imagine how much money they have made off people replacing the cords. This needs to be fixed this now. I don't hear of non-apple phone users complaining about their phone cords. So why you Apple? Fix it, do it now.

    Completely hit & miss

    • Written by from Cranberry Township

4 people in my house have iOS devices that require lightning cables. We have had to replace ALL of them. What is worse that whether we buy a "Genuine Apple Product" or a cheap knock-off, they last about the same amount of time. Currently, the most reliable cable has been an old 30-pin cable w/ a lightning adapter.

One sign they are on their way out is a black "scorch mark" on the metal pins of the lightning adapter. It almost looks like something shorted out. Also, many begin failing and only work when plugged in facing a particular direction.

I understand that my children may not take good care of them. Yet a cables that stayed in my car and next to my bed their entire lives also stopped working after a few months. Based on other reviews, it's a very real problem. I think the people that gave the good reviews just got lucky, as we have 4 working cables out of 11 Apple cables & 2 third party cables.

I got an iPad mini for Christmas and have to buy a third charger because I've had 2 break on me! The wire rips or just stops working Apple needs to fix their products because I'm about to sell my iPad and go through another company! So much money wasted on chargers!

    Not durable at all!

    • Written by from Washington

I have had to replace two of these. Each of them would start working intermittently and then just give up completely. Both cables were less than a year old. The most-recent one died after 4 months.

    Waste of money. 0 stars.

    • Written by from Canberra

I had the iphone 4 for a year and a half with the same charger the whole time and no issues at all. I have now had the iphone 5 for the same amount of time and have probably gone through 20+ chargers, it seems I need to buy a new one every month! This is such a waste of money and has discouraged me from buying any further Iphone products in the future. Maybe instead of bringing out useless updates such as finger print recognition and phones that are simply too large to be practical, Apple should focus on an actual issue that thousands of their consumers are complaining about. As soon as my contract runs out I will be buying a phone that has a reliable charger. It's a shame because I have no issue with the Iphone 5 itself, just the fact that I have wasted so much money on the useless chargers, which is probably Apple's intention in the first place.

I am astounded at all the bad reviews for this cable. I have several and have absolutely NO problems with them ever. They just work. I have no idea what these folks do with the cable to make it fail, but I am a normal traveler with multiple iOS devices and a MBP, using my devices constantly all day and in all sorts of situations. I always treat my accessories with the same care I treat my devices: no fraying or kinking of the cable has ever occurred. Great connections every time. And, because it comes from Apple, I know the connector is safe. End of Story.

Big Disappointment. I believe, Its getting manufactured in China nowadays. For heaven's sake charge few dollars more, but give a better charging wire, as its a life line of a hand phone.

    Unreliable

    • Written by from San Diego

I've had my iPad Air 2 for about 2 months now, the cable worked great for those two months until half an hour ago when it just stopped working for no apparent reason. The cable isn't broken and there's absolutely no water damage, I tend to take care of my stuff, but there is a very tiny dark spot on one of the pins and I'm absolutely sure that's the issue. Apple, if your cables stop working so easily maybe you should rework these cables because I'm not going to keep buying these stupidly overpriced and unreliable cables so that they can stop working two months later. Now I'm gonna go to my local apple store and hope they replace it with no apple protection plan (I bought the iPad at Best Buy). Darn it also won't let me rate it 0 stars, oh well 1 star it is then.
