Apple, you pride yourself on the technological advancement of your products. Pride yourself on listening to your consumers. This cable is pathetic. It breaks too easily and the replacement cost is too high for its poor quality. Embarrassment should be your stand on this one as it was with your map skills.

Apple for the love of god, make these things longer! I have to hang off my bed just to check my phone because my power outlet is 2 feet from me! I bought a USB extension cable and it's intermittent functionality. It will say almost every time "this device doesn't work with your iphone". How the heck are you going to charge $19 for a short cable, that breaks at the plug on the phone side showing wires after 2 months, not allow other manufactures to make reliable versions, and make them so dang short? What is going on in your product development meetings that you say "no! we will not give them more length! AND YES we will charge like we do!"

    Worst Apple Accessory Ever

I bought my iPhone 5 sometime in January. It is now April and the charger has stopped functioning. The inside insulation for the wiring began slipping after just a few time of use, so much that the end of the charger where the phone plugs in is extremely flimsy. I imagine the wires finally gave out. Really disappointed and since its so new hardly anyone has these charges.

    Terrible Product

This new Lightning Cable is of very poor quality. I have owned my 5th Generation iPod touch for four months now and this cable has completely stopped working. This is indeed an atrocity because I have owned my 30-pin USB Cable for over two years now and it works perfectly fine. I am extremely disappointed with Apple as now, seeing as I am deployed, it will take weeks in order for me to acquire a new one. If due diligence was perfomed on this product, instead of changing the connection in order to get more money out of the consumer, this would not be an issue. The only reason why this gets a one-star is because you are unable to give it NO stars.

    Extremely Short Life Span

Unfortunately, this cable has the shortest lifespan of any Apple cable I have ever used. And I have practically used them all. I am on the 3rd cable since purchasing the iPad Mini this past Christmas and I even used electrical tape and a plastic tube to increase the longevity of the cable. Sadly, this evening, the 3rd cable has malfunctioned. I will have to purchase cable number 4 tomorrow.

    Lightning to USB Cable

I prefer the smaller foot print of the new lightning connector as compared to the 30 pin connecter.... I like the positive connection and the fact that it’s universal so there is no right or wrong way to plug it in. However, there is a huge, huge, huge flaw with this design. With the 30 pin connector, you could grasp the connecter itself to disconnect the device. With the new lightning connector, it is so tiny, that you have almost no option but to pull the cable to disconnect the connector, especially if you use a protective case. So that being said, try as I might to be careful as possible, I am on my 4th lightning cable in as many months... They simply pull apart, and at $19.00 a pop the problem is adding up quickly.

I have had my iPhone 5 for about 4 months and the cord barely works anymore. It only charges if its bent a certain way. It's annoying because the old style of USB on earlier models lasted forever and I never had problems

Having just switched from android, I find this new cable annoying as it is not universal like a micro USB. Also I don't like that the cord is so short, you have to put your phone on the floor to charge it. It does charge the phone really fast though.

I understand the premise behind the change and I love how this cord is made over the other I've been using over the years. The only gripe is I had a dual charging stand for my iPad 1 and iPhone 4, it's now obsolete. The new iPad won't charge on the stand either for some reason. I have a lot of cords that can go to others who need them but I sure think Apple would have sent at least two in the box. I'm not happy about there being no stand for my phone. They should have developed one with this newest plug version and also sent that in the box. I love Apple products but now they are going to $29 me to death. Then I have to buy the stand when one comes out, UUUGGHHH! Great phone so a five star. I did all of this, mostly, from Siri

    Breaks easily

    • Written by from Green Cove Springs

15 of 16 people found this useful

for some reason the cables for older iPhones have lasted way long than this one. it breaks after the little part that covers the first bit of the cable on the lightning side, it needs to have a bit larger part that covers the rest of the wire. The casing comes unattached leaving the wire free to bend and become frayed right away.

It probably because the cord is short and the lightning end is where it's most likely to be bent, but Apple needs to take that into affect and maybe even making the plastic casing longer so that your entire index finger can grab it
