    Apple charger cables too SHORT!

    • Written by from Alexandria

I have one big problem with apple charger cables whether for iPhones or iPads: they are too short. I have to be as close to the power source as possible and that is not conducive at all. Make them longer and don't tell me about buying another cord coz we deserve the best from Apple!

My lightning charger broke after two months, and I just ordered a new one. It didn't even show signs of breakage, it just literally stopped charging. I love the fact it's reversible, as that really bothered me when plugging the 30-pin one in. I can tell I'm going to have to buy lots more this year... Now, I'm stuck without a phone for a week. Yay.

I have had the iPhone 5 since it first came out, and I have been using the same cord since I got the phone and I haven't needed any replacements, but it appears that the lightning end of the cable is frayed on the inside of the sheath. But over all I like the cable.

It works perfectly when it's not broken, but that only lasts a couple months.
I just had to buy a new one very recently, and then that one broke too. The cord seems to be bunching up at the top and for some reason that's causing it to not charge anymore. Apple really needs to fix this, because I don't have the money to keep buying these.

    Not Impressive

I'll give it a three to be nice. I would actually rate it a two. I went to my friends house on March 10, (yesterday) and when I got home I found out that it broke. I got this charger in early November with my iPhone 5. It only lasts 5 months (about) so I suggest don't re-buy it. I'm planning to exchange it with my dad at Best Buy or a local Apple Store soon but it still charges. You just need to put the cord in really weird positions. So far theirs no possible way to fix this, but to prevent it, don't bend the charger where the small dock is. And pull out the charger buy the plastic outline. Or the docks. Not the cable itself.

I love the new charger how ever once con to it is I've had the cable for 3 months and I had to replace it already because the wire disconnected from the part that actually fits into my phone so if they could make a stronger cable or something that would be great

    Why do chargers ALWAYS break?

So , this is about the 5th time ive repurchased this charger. And the old charger ( the one compatible with the older generations) was even worse. Im surprised this lasted a month.i liove that is is easy to plug in to your ipod/iphone but, even one small bend can ruin these chargers.I hope apple can make better chargers next time instead of focusing just on the product that is supposed to be charged.

    Apple needs to address this!

I've been an Apple consumer of almost every single product they offer. They have all been consistent in quality and value... until the new lightening cord. My charger cord is a few months old and already won't charge the phone. I have done nothing except plug it in and out of the phone properly (no water, no drop, scratch, etc) In researching this issue it seems to be a common problem, clearly something Apple needs to recognize and compensate for. I have a genius bar appointment tomorrow, if they don't give me a new one I am going to be really upset. Please don't make me regret my iPhone 5 purchase!!!

I love that it's reversable and smaller than the 30 pin, but seriously Apple, no audio or video output? Found this out the hard way when I tried to plug it into the usb in a brand new Chevy and nothing came thru.

    Why is everyone so upset!?

I am not sure why everyone is complaining? I mean i get that your charger is maybe wrinkled or you are on your fifth one, but Apple is really good at replacing your stuff. I mean, I just don't get why people are buy 5 and 6 chargers. Take it to the Apple store and they will gladly help you. I have never had a problem.

I will say that they are expensive. Heck, even the knockoffs are expensive.

    Great, but doesn't last long...

This product worked really well when i first got it. I really liked the new size and design. But after a month or two the cable became weak and didn't work when it was plugged in. I had to twist it or hold it a certain way or else it wouldn't work. I'll try to be more careful with my new one, but i hope they come up with a more durable and longlasting cable.

I have always been an Apple fan. They make great products and when you need a replacement device they are quick to help. However, this is the first complaint I have had about an Apple product. I do not love this charger. It feels cheaply made. I had to replace my charger because it will only charge my phone if I set it down a certain way and the cord gets hot. The wireing inside is poor at best. I went to pick up my phone and the charger had gotten so hot when it touched my skin it had turned it pink instantly. I was scared to charge my phone for fear it may start an electrical fire. I never had this problem with the old chargers. I wasn't a fan of how wide they were originally, however, I can get over it, simply for a better and more well designed charger.

For those complaining about the cable being too short, they make USB extensions. They are great and don't cost much. It's a simple fix. If you haven't thought about, there you go! You can all stop your whining.

    Which Side/hard to fully insert

    • Written by from Mililani

It took me a bit of a time to get the tiny connection to fit fully into the smaller pin configuration, but after what felt like forcing to me, the charge light activated so I'm assuming the iPod T5 will be charged soon. But when reading about the problem with one side working but then it stops and you have to reverse the top or bottom of the end, I wonder if there is any difference in the two because I don't see any and the old 30 pin had at least the top & bottom sort of marked. For the price of these things, I wold actually expect more but like so much, guess it's too much to expect. I have only had this out of the box for three days. I should wait longer but I didn't see any comments about which side to insert up nor any comment about the feeling that it's going to break if it's pushed any harder into the slot.

and the cable is too short. Buying an extender cable is a weak answer. Making a cable 12-18 inches longer is a start.

Had it for two weeks then it stopped working and gave me error messages on my Mac and in my car saying it was using too much power. But otherwise it works well and is much better than the 30 pin.

We purchased 4 new iphones for the family. One cable went out within 24 hours and was replaced by Apple. Another one seems to be wobbly but so far so good. 25% failure rate does not bode well.

Cord works good but needs to be much longer

    Team,
Please consider making at least a 5' cord soon; however, most of us prefer 6' so we can use it while charging or our children use it in the back seat of a vehicle.

We would rather have your product over after market, but we all buy what comes out first to meet our needs.

Do love my IPHONE 5 the day it was released...
