THe cable is great!! Granted i didint invest heavily into the purchasing things that used the 30 pin, i still think its a great improvement. i dont have to worry at night if i have the cable in the right direction. Kudos to you apple for finally changing the design.

The reason that you're going to enjoy the switch to the smaller dongle cable that does not have an specific orientation to be plugged into the iPhone is the fact that the wear and tear on the cable is virtually cut in half. Anybody that has used the 30-pin connector knows what happens over time when using the cable. You literally splice the rubber sheath over the wire of the cable and expose it because it only fits in one way. I have 3 30-pin connectors with tape over them to re-shield the exposed wire. As far as the cable transporting information to and from your PC any faster? I don't know. If it is faster, it is minimal. It's not a step up to USB3 would be. These cables will last a much longer time, and with a lot less tape.

    Need to sell them now

    • Written by from Port Charlotte

For some people it may be inconvenient not to have them on the shelves yet. Wether you are dumb enough to allow the phone to drop off a desk and break the connector or just simply travel and would like the ability to have a few spares between locations, Apple needs to get these out on the market. If anyone has broken or cut a cable accidently, you are screwed to say the least. I do like the design of this cable. It is unique and simole for the new iphone. Well done, now just get more on the shelves.

Why not pick up a USB extension cable? I love the new connector compared to the old 30 pin. Huge improvement with no negatives so far.

Surprised to find I love it!

    • Written by from Rochester

I have to admit I was not happy when Apple replaced the 30-pin connector. I have about half a dozen around my house, and getting a new iPhone meant that those connectors - which I never had any problems with - were useless.

Having used this connector now for nearly 2 weeks, I LOVE IT. I love how slim it is, and how easy it is to plug into the unit. I still don't like that I my old cords are obsolete, but I think the new design will be worth it in the long run.

Good quality, and it works. 3.5 ft is a good length for me because it's not too unwieldy if I need to use it in the car. When I'm charging next to my bed, I use a cheap USB extension cord from Amazon.

    High-Quality & Durable

    • Written by from El Campo

One of my concerns when first hearing about this cable was compatibility and durability, the Lightning cable just looked so thin online! Also, what about all my old docking stations?

Well, as it turns out, I didn't use the old docking stations much at all anyway -- everything I played my music on was wireless! I use my Apple TV for music in my room, and my AirPort Express is connected to my patio speakers, allowing me to stream my music outside. So who cares about the old iPod stereos? If you still need one, Apple does offer an adapter.

As for durability, the Lightning cable is made of some type of metal (not sure which though), and I've found it to be incredibly sleek and durable over the past few weeks. In fact, it's so durable that I'm surprised they didn't ship a new iPhone dock for it!

In summary, this change was much needed and paves the road for all sorts of engineering innovation in future products. The only question now is what to do with all the 30-pin dock connectors I've amassed over the past years.

    RIP, 30-pin dock connector. 2003-2012.

This lightening cable is sleeker and with evolution comes new things. i just bought 4 of them and have placed them strategically throughout my home, car and office. I don't buy the piece about it being faster, but it really isn't that big of a deal. I can't wait until the new iPad comes out so I can totally eliminate my 30 pin connectors altogether! Onward and upward...

    Great, Sturdy, and portable.

    • Written by from Fort Wayne

This is probably the most sturdy cable Apple has built. They have made the base of the connecters longer so that they are sturdier and should not break as easily. The new connector is reversible which makes it easier to connect to the iPhone. It works well with the wall chargers of previous iPhones and iPods. The only thing that this cable is lacking in is length, it could be a little longer. Good Job Apple. I can not wait for the Lightening Cable to be mass released.

Technology advances from time to time, and this is a welcomed one. Yes, you need to buy some new cables, but welcome to owning great products. This should be the standard connector for the next 5-7 years so let's get on with it!

Great new cable standard and fantastic robust and smart connector !!
I guess it is prepared for future features as it have some "legs" that must be unused...
I look forward to a shorter version (1 foot or so) to use with the MacBook.
I read many people complain about the length of the included cable, I simply use a USB extension cable for this... in any case: Well done Apple!!

This new lightning connector is brilliant. It is definately lightining fast just like it's name says. No more fumbling, getting the correct side to plug in, because this one connects with either side, so you dont have to look at it to see if you have it in the wright position, you simply grab it and plug it into your phone...I definately love this new styled charger, may take some people getting use to the idea of change, I know and heard some iphone 5 purchasers complaining that they had to convert to the new charger, but now they are impressed and after owning and using this new charger for a week understand that this appearant "unconvienent" change was actually very "convienent"! There is no going back trust me...you will love this change!

Really like the lightning cable a lot. You can plug it in real quickly without having to look at it. Like the others mentioned, it could be at least 6 feet long though. Still an awesome cable regardless.
