After having the same cable for about 2 years, The Lighting cable still works just fine. down side about it that is white (gets dirty very fast) 19.99 is a bit high price and to upgrate for 2m is even more expensive.

    Extremely poor product

    • Written by from Marín

I love Apple and iPhone, but this cable is simply driving me crazy. Over the past year I owned three iPhone Apple branded cables, 2 "Made for iPhone" cables and 3 or 4 cheap non-licensed chargers.

The iPhone (Apple branded) cable breaks very easily, something you wouldn't expect from a simple and basic cable that sells at 25$ here in Korea. I understand if Apple wants to use a different connector from the standard microUSB at a higher price if they want to provide a more reliable product than other manufacturers. However, truth is Apple is not providing a better service. They are just ensuring they can have a proprietary charger that is smart to prevents cheap imitations (through a chip included in the charger). There's nothing wrong with that as long as your Apple cable is a superior product that won't easily break. And as the 1,502 negative reviews before mine show, this is not the case.

The alternative may seem to buy licensed iPhone chargers from 3rd manufacturers but those aren't good either. Many chargers are much better than the Apple one in terms of sturdiness and won't break but they will just stop working. I realized the Made for iPhone license doesn't really ensure your charger will be compatible during a long time. Many chargers licensed by Apple stop working after a few weeks of use.

It's a shame how Apple is not handling this issue. I guess the 92,000 employees at Apple are too busy to notice the 90% negative reviews this cable has in their own site, but if someone is reading, PLEASE DO SOMETHING!!

Better than 3rd party Lightning Cables

    • Written by from Newton

We've probably got a dozen of these laying around the house & cars, we've never had one fail yet since their introduction a couple of years ago. No complaints, except maybe the price....

Lightning connector, cable and Ipad connection.

    • Written by from Godmanchester

Utter junk. The Lightning connector gets damaged very easily when connecting to the Ipad. The hardware in the cable and Ipad are poorly designed.
Best advice is to stay clear from Apple products.

I have had to purchase 4 OF THESE CORDS within the last year, its nothing with the input dock on my phone as I have tested it on other iPhone 5's. I bought an off brand product and it has lasted far longer than any of the Apple products, steer clear of this cable.

Sam frustration here. I'm on my third cord now. The first one that came with my iPad lasted for a year. Then I bought a new cord, it lasted maybe 6 months and I'm off to the Apple Store to buy another one because my iPad is DEAD and nothing else will charge it.

Is there an attorney out there? Let's do a class action lawsuit.

    • Written by from Miami

I love Apple products, but there is something else to be said about the quality of the lighting cable. Like everyone else here, it is an expensive cable that breaks very easily. I think this is on purpose considering how overpriced this cable is. Is there an attorney out there that would be willing to file a class action lawsuit for this? I think it would be worth considering.

    Come on... Apple

    • Written by from Lake Oswego

These cords are not cheap. We have almost 10 Apple devices in our house and almost all of these power cords are shredded at the end near the end of the cable. They need to check the quality and durability of these cords - after paying a premium for an iPhone or an iPad, consumers shouldn't constantly have to buy replacement cords!

.. And the Worst Part Is...

    • Written by from Auckland

Like everyone else, my cord got scrunched and stopped working unbelievably quickly. And it's too short. I do like the lightning cable, but if you can't get the cord right, then maybe you should've not released that feature until you had nailed it. It's not that hard to figure out - if it's not working properly, don't sell it as part of a really expensive phone. The worst part, for me, is that there are cheaper alternatives (knockoffs) that you can buy, but my phone doesn't recognise them to transfer data. So I have to pay for a new cord every 5-6 months, that I know will be broken in no time.

    Worst cable made

    • Written by from Little Neck

Too bad I can't give this zero stars. The original cable stopped working in less than a month, the replacement stopped working in less than a week. i am extremely careful with this cable and pull it from the tip. Either the problem is in manufacturing or the design of this cable. How is it that this cable can't even last a week. Now another trip to deal with the "Geniuses". Wonderful phone, over price poor cable.

    poorly conceived/produced product

    • Written by from South Deerfield

As others indicate, these cords (in my case 2) can fail fast. In one case, the cord tube frayed for no apparent reason and, I suppose because of this, the wires inside frayed. This occurred after less than a year and I always unplug by pulling the lightening head of the cord - not the cord itself. The other case is more mysterious. There was no outside fraying; it just stopped working.

    Think people... think

    • Written by from Scottsdale

Those of you complaining how this cable does not last are such idiots. One 1.5 inch long, $0.0002 piece of Heat Shrink over the Lightning plug end and my cables last for years. My biggest challenge is preventing my kids from losing them, not dealing with the construction of the cable. Should I have to reinforce the cable I just spent $19 on? No. Of course not. But a fraction of a penny and exactly 45 seconds and my cables last forever. Think people.

    Apple please!!!!

    • Written by from Caracas

Just the same as the other 1.486 unhappy costumers, I just can't belive this cable is so poor manufactured that broke so easy.
If not by your quality standars at least, out of shame, you should fix this, recalling all this cheap cables and making a better and right one.
It's just unacceptable that you have a product that has 80% of bad reviews based in his poor quality and it is still yet in your stores.

Enough frsutrations to stop using iPhone for good

    • Written by from Hamilton

This design is so bad, and I mean really really bad. Even after years and years of complain, Apple seems to have done nothing about it. The new lightning cables (for alot of users) just stops working after a while. Yes, it just stops working.

Reason is (I think) some wire get lose inside the 8-pin board. Why the heck would you design a case that doesn't do its job properly? This is so frustrating. And a replacement costs 21.99, which I again have to replace after a few months. And my phone is less than a year old. Less than a year old, two cable gone! I am furious! And no i cannot risk using a third party cable cause Apply licenses the design out, which means there is some funky circuitry involved which could risk leaving my phone 'brain damaged'.

I wish i could rate it no star!

I have considered multiple times to sell the iPhone and jump ship to Android. If the comment filter allowed, I'd be swinging all sorts of nasty words at you, b!#&h.

    Wore out way too quickly

    • Written by from Bristol

After only a couple of months of use, this cable started coming apart at the connector end that plugs into the iPad. The rubber covering at the base of the connector started scrunching up, and I had work for several minutes to get the cable into the right position or it wouldn't work. If I moved my iPad, then it would quit charging. Shortly after I started having problems, it completely quit charging.

I normally prefer to use the original manufacturer's accessories; but in this case, the cable was a huge failure. Apple really needs to reconsider the design of this cable.
