    Both shorted

    • Written by from Portland

Both mine and my wife's cable developed a short less than a year old, won't consistently charge now, also no longer charges phone to 100% when it does work. Not what I was expecting when I think of apple quality

This is not up to the expected quality from Apple. I have purchased 5 devices (4 iPads and 1 iPhone) and only two of the cables work with some manoevering after 12 months. This is not acceptable.

Apple should launch a free replacement program

    • Written by from San Jose

If I could give zero stars I would.

Out of three of these cables that I got between 1.5 years and 6 months ago, one has failed completely and two are failing. I used to think of Apple as a brand that symbolizes quality, but I guess that Apple died with Steve.

At the very least, Apple should launch a free exchange program to save face.

Everyone be PREPARED to buy at least 2 or 10 ($19.99 each) of these iPhone USB charging cables throughout your lifetime because they will only. The THIN white rubber cover will rip instantly, the cable wiring itself is CHEAP.

I recommend buying an aftermarket brand like Belkin etc. or try the flat type charging cords.

Not sure what people are doing with their cables. My wife and I have been using our cables since iphone 5 came out. Still going strong. Never had a single issue. Great cable.

Proprietary garbage from Apple, what a surprise

    • Written by from Chihuahua

Worked well for a few months, then stopped working. Now it only works 1/20th of the time with the AC charger, and seems to never work when plugged into a computer.
Of course if Apple used standard cables like every other company does I could just grab another micro USB cord or buy one for five bucks. But nope, I gotta spend another 20 dollars (probably more because where I live electronics are twice as expensive) on some cheap cable that costs a dollar or less to manufacture so it can break again in a few months.
Good thing the iPad was a gift because I'd never buy into apple's "ecosystem" anyways. Everythings locked in, propietary, and overpriced. Next tablet is going to be an Android for sure.

Can't win, you buy genuine product from apple store and doesn't last long and you buy from ebay and it's even worse.

    No good!!!!!!!!!

    • Written by from Silver Spring

I wouldn't even give it a whole star! It charges fast but the cable does not last long at all. Expect to have it no longer than two months until the cord starts messing up and it becomes useless! A piece of junk and waste of money. They should be ashamed to make such a failure of an accessory! Try again!

I've had my phone for less than 8 months and my cable is already malfunctioning. The copper part is starting to wear down on BOTH sides of insert. The plastic over the cable is starting to stretch and crinkle. These are merely cosmetic problems, but you won't be surprised to hear that MY CABLE NO LONGER WORKS. It won't charge on my computer because apparently it uses too much power and my computer refuses to charge my phone. When I do get it to charge, I can't touch my phone or else any slight movement will cause it to not charge anymore. My phone has not been at 100% charge in over 3 weeks. I can't use lesser priced cables because Apple doesn't let "unauthorized" cables charge my phone. This is a wreck. I wish I got a Samsung phone instead because I can't even use my phone since it won't properly charge!!!

On on my third charger. Last 2 chargers stopped working all of a sudden. I take care of everything I own and specially my cables. This is far most the most disappointing product from apple.

    Waste Of Money.

    • Written by from Shelby TWP

I have gone through three chargers since I purchased an Iphone 5 in January of 2013. Every couple months, the cable stops allowing my phone to charge unless I move the cable and phone into a specific position. It is so frustrating, considering these things are twenty dollars each and the one I am currently using is about to break. It's not like I have ever done anything to damage these cables either. They are just cheap and break way too easily. Not to mention the cable itself is extremely short. Just not good, man.

Apple should give customers 5 cables - they only last a month

    • Written by from Auckland

Purchased iPod 5 for my daughter a year ago and we have already spent over $100 on cables. The original one broke after two months. They are just cheap and can't take any practical wear. Purchase some knock off cables which was a total mistake. Then purchased some certified cables which were better but still only lasted two months.

Apple - you really need to improve the quality go this cable

Would give zero stars if I could

The horrible design of this charger that FORCES you to buy a new one every few months (if not less) is the reason I am switching to the Galaxy. Was always a loyal customer to Apple until I had to replace my SEVENTH charger. I have even made sure to take care of my charger the way they told me at the Genius Bar after the 5th one broke. Still stops charging, Only one more month until I can upgrade!

Broke after 7 months of light use. A cable should last the life of the product and then some. Imagine having to buy new HDMI cables for your TV 2x a year. Unacceptable. If they make beats headphones lightning connector only I am selling all my APPL stock. Your making customers mad Apple.

I love my Apple products however, Since upgrading to the iphone 5 I have been disapointed due to the fact that I have had to replace my lightening cable countless times in the year and a half that I've had the phone! the charger seems to just stop charging my phone The cable is so flimsy and cheap, that combined with the short battery life of the phone is causing me to conside ditching the iPhone and switching over to something different.

If I could give this cable 0 stars I would.

I also don't typically write reviews but this is pretty pathetic. I always defend Apple and their high quality products, so having a cable of such low quality and standards is an embarrassment to both Apple and the consumer. I'm waiting for the I6; desperately holding on to the I5 and pretty much having to keep it plugged in at all times (this is without FB or other draining apps) it's annoying to watch this cable fall apart so quickly. I don't think even the cheaper manufacturers could produce a product of this low quality. This is almost home made, but sold at premium prices. It's all in the details Apple; if this is a reflection of where the company is headed; the iPhone 6 may be my last Apple purchase.

I love all of my Apple products (iPod 3,4,and 5, iPad, and 2 iPhone 4s) but have been extremely disappointed in the USB cable. The rubber covering tends to wear very easily and the connections diminishes. I have had to replace all my USB cables at least twice for all of my products. I originally posted in the Apple Support Communities and I was verbally abused by 3 persons whom say they've never experienced this and I was a careless user. Although I know that I don't abuse my USB cables, I'm reassured that I was not the only one experiencing this same problem. Apple please find a better fix to this situation. Consumers purchase your products with money they've earned and it's not fair to have to continue purchasing USB cables just to utilize their products.

I never write reviews and took the time to write this one just to warn others of the shoddy materials this is made of. I do not have children or animals and this cable does not get abnormal wear or tear to excuse the quick deconstruction it is experiencing. If I could rate half a star I would.
