Worst Design In History of Apple

    • Written by from Palm Desert

If I could give it zero stars I would. The Lightning cable corrodes, rips, twists and basically falls apart very quickly. It is not a durable product and prone to fail far too easily with normal use. The free replacement program is hardly a solution when the entire purpose of the devices this cable is designed to power, is to increase productivity and improve quality of life. Repeatedly returning defective cables (and they are all defective) on a routine basis is a complete waste of productive time. This cable design is deeply flawed. I will not purchase another apple device that requires a lightning cable.

    Terrible quality

    • Written by from Sachse

I have two iPhone 5s, iPad mini and two iphone 5c's all cables but one no longer work. I take very good care of all my belongings and have taken extra precautions to ensure I handle the cables delicately to no avail. The cables are less than 1 year old so I will be setting up an AppleCare appointment but i am extremely disappointed with the quality of the lightning cables this far.

    Flimsy piece of garbage

    • Written by from Winnipeg

Had 2 break in less than a year. In the same spot at the end of the lightning part. Definitely not worth +$20 dollars. Or $1 for that matter

    Absolute piece of garbage

    • Written by from Kelowna

I cannot believe apple has stooped to such a garbage level, unfortunately everything on my iPhone 5 works flawlessly, the cable itself fails within a month under regular usage. It is absurd that such a reputable, or was reputable, company would even sell such garbage and be content with themselves. As many have said this is the turn point for me to leave apple behind and hope it dies out after wasting so many peoples time and money, I'll be battling my friends to leave apple if they are on it aswell.

    Rating is unfair!!

    • Written by from dallas

I would like to rate this product a 0 but I can't. hence the unfairness in the title. I've had an iphone for 4 months and I have gone through 5 cables ranging from 9.99 to 39.99 each. The Apples' cable is just as bad as the chineese cheap brands off the internet. Some of the best cables for Iphone are those for Ipad, however, the plug can fit in if you are using a case, so you will have to remove the case during the charging. In summary, the cable is POS and the technology behind it is lousy as well. The only good thing, is the technology lives up to its name - lightning :)

    Awful quality

    • Written by from Lewisburg

I've had the IPhone 5 since the day it came out and I've already been thru 5 cables. They are awful. The ends are to flimsy and after bending just a little they break. Why spend hundreds of dollars on a phone that you can't even charge?cables are worth $2. Not &$20.

    iPhone 5 charging cables!

    • Written by from Bear Creek

I didn't have this problem until the iPhone 5. The Lightening to USB cables are of very poor quality! Our household has had two break near the connection to the phone. The plastic tube over the wires separates and then the wires snap! You need to find a better manufacturer for the cables!!! We are being ripped off on the ones you are selling now! You could begin to lose business given the number of complaints out here!!!

    Worst cable ever!

Already bought 3 cables and all lasted less than 4 months of use. Sometimes you need to adjust the cable for it to work.

    Terrible Quality

    • Written by from Oak Creek

The cable insulation has completely frayed with only normal usage and now the wire has broken resulting in sporadic connection. There are 2 iPhone 5's in my house and the same exact thing happened to both cables. Never had this problem with the old cables, what happened Apple?

Insulting product at an insulting price...

    • Written by from PLATTSBURG

Haven't even had my iPhone 5s for a month and the Lightning Cable is already pulling apart at the phone connector end.

I treat my electronics very well, so this is unacceptable. My girlfriend is probably on her third lightning cable for her iPad.

This is very un-Apple like. You pay more for Apple products because of the quality. With this junk cable, you're paying for the Apple name and getting garbage.

Maybe you should look down from that tall ivory Apple, and see that you are dragging your own name in the mud?

    My patience has dried out

    • Written by from Marietta

I have had every single iphone made. I love iphones and have never had a problem with them. The chargers? Now thats another story. Every single one has fallen apart on me but i would simply go to the Apple store and exchange it for a new one for free once showing and explaining my issue. Now with this new cord i have had more of a problem than any other iphone charger. I reached my max of exchanges at the apple store so i bought 1 from the AT&T store, that broke. Then i purchased one from the apple store, that broke even sooner. Then i went to target, that broke. Then i bought one online that also broke! And Finallly i went to walmart and my charger just broke once again. This new design is just the complete downfall for Apple. I love my Apple products but if this doesnt change i'm going to have to find something else. I would honestly give it NO STARS if i could.

The first cable lasted 6 months, the second one - 2 WEEKS!!!! I am about to buy a third cable in 6 months. Terrible quality, breaks even with careful use. Seems a cheap toy rather than a quality pricy accessory it is supposed to be. Shame on Apple for making such a low quality product! If I could sell my Iphone without a huge loss, I swear I'd do!

    Possibly the last straw

    • Written by from Chantilly

I have lots of bearable issues that I've lived with since the iPhone first came to market. Bearable enough that I moved to the iPhone 5, even though it meant purchasing new cables. Now that I have an iPhone 5 for some time, I can safely say that I believe the Lightning cable may be the nail in the coffin for me.

They are absolutely horrendous, unreliable, fragile, and poorly designed! A smart phone is like a mini-computer that you keep with you at all times. That means it becomes very critical in my daily activities for both work and personal life. The ability to keep the phone charged so it is useable is by far one of the most critical things. If it's not charged, it doesn't matter how good or bad any of the features are since you can't use it. Something as trivial as a working charging cord should not be a day-to-day struggle! Forget all the features and data sync options the cable supports, just charging is all I want right now!

If this overpriced, poorly designed, cheaply manufacturer piece of garbage is Apple's way of preventing competition and gouging their customers for more money, it may just cost them customer locality as well. My next smartphone will likely be from HTC. Heck, I might even go with a Windows phone instead of the dead brick!

    broke after 6 months

    • Written by from Cary

Mine that came with ipad air broke after six months. Surprised to see that I'm not alone here. Does this thing have one year warranty? I'm going to buy a 3rd party cable instead. It's ridiculous to charge $19 for a basic cable that won't last.

    Terrible cable

    • Written by from Deer Park

Between iPhones and iPads in my house, we only have one working lightning cable left, I came on here to look for replacements and am very disappointed. Perhaps it is time to change to the Galaxy... none of my friends/family are having this issue, and my defending apple and my love for the products is falling fast.

    Terrible design

    • Written by from Crystal Lake

So apple took something that was basically unbreakable(charging cables) and turned them into an everyday fire hazard. It's actually amazing. Could you imagine someone being on the fence about buying a macbook or iPhone and then deciding not too because the charging cable wasn't attractive enough?? My point is there is no explanation for such a poor design. On the positive note this is a gift to belkin. I have an extended cable for my iPhone that was the same price as the stupidly short iPhone cable and it is built like a tank. Apple seriously needs to fix this though. I just had to replace my macbook cable after only a year and that was 85 bucks. Not cool.

You get about 6-12 months use - if you're careful

    • Written by from Manchester

I only got my iPhone 5S in October last year, and was skeptical about all the negative reviews of these cables, given that I've had the older generation iPhone/iPad cables in the past and never had a problem.

I've always taken reasonable care of my cables (I don't yank them around etc, but neither do I transport them in a foam-lined box). But sure enough, last week my lightning cable just stopped working. No external damage, no careless use or excessive bending of the cable. It just died.

So I have to buy another cable now.

    Poor quality cable by Apple.

    • Written by from Snoqualmie

I'm on my umpteenth Lightning cable. They constantly break/fringe at the connection point of the Lightning plug and cable. How hard is it to make a stronger cable? I'm very disappointed that Apple can not manufacture a quality product. If they were $4.99 that would be one thing but at $19.99 a pop, C'mon Apple?
