Totally agree with all the other negatives. I am on my third cable. these things only hold up for 2-3 months at most. Horribly made.

    Absolute JOKE

I've had this cord for about four months and the lightning end of the cord came loose and won't charge my phone. It's a shame the 30-pin connecters would last 4 years, not 4 months.

Poor design. Beware! Doesn't work with most Iphone 5 cases. I really don't want to remove the case every time I need to charge my phone.

    Great, Sturdy, and portable.

This is probably the most sturdy cable Apple has built. They have made the base of the connecters longer so that they are sturdier and should not break as easily. The new connector is reversible which makes it easier to connect to the iPhone. It works well with the wall chargers of previous iPhones and iPods. The only thing that this cable is lacking in is length, it could be a little longer. Good Job Apple. I can not wait for the Lightening Cable to be mass released.

I only keep the charger at home and plug my phone in at the end of the day. I have gone through two already, currently awaiting my third in the mail due to issues since I purchased the phone in November. Cord easily kinks up and stops working.

    Awful. Just awful

The design of this cable is absolutely awful. The cable is so fragile, that simply charging your iOS device will result in the cable end coming loose and failing within a relatively short period of time. I've gone through 4 of these cables, and I am very careful. The cable could be made far better by reinforcing the end and perhaps adding a plastic/rubber tab that would be easier to grip with thumb and index finger. This is almost as bad as my 17"MBP that won't charge under load... Very dissatisfied. Would give 0 stars if possible.

This charger breaks super easily. I've had 2 so far and today my 2nd one just broke. I also think it's quite a lot of money for a charger that doesn't really work.

It works perfectly when it's not broken, but that only lasts a couple months.
I just had to buy a new one very recently, and then that one broke too. The cord seems to be bunching up at the top and for some reason that's causing it to not charge anymore. Apple really needs to fix this, because I don't have the money to keep buying these.

Literally just paid my first bill after switching over to AT&T and only having the iPhone 5 for one month and the cord is already defective. It's twisted at the end where it goes into my phone and I have to bend it a certain way just for it to work. I love this phone but it's hard to love a dead phone -__-

I hate this cord! I have to drive an hour each time I need a new one, and I'm on number 6 in 3 months! I would go back to my iPhone 4 if I could just because of this cord.

New lightning cable works fine when just needing to sync, unfortunately it now charges my iPhone 5 only intermittently. The computer sees the phone, but no matter which port I use, on either work, home, or laptop, I can't get it to charge regularly. Hope to talk to Apple today for a fix as I only have this one charger. After scanning the forums, I don't appear to be the only one who has this problem.

I love how much smaller it is, and it's reversible! Except I was a bit disappointed to see they haven't accelerated the speed to USB 3.0 yet. My Retina has USB 3.0 and so does the Air and standard Pros so why not make the cable to work to the rising standard.

I ordered one more of these for my new iPhone 5 and it broke after just 2 days of usage, it doesn't stay in place anymore. Has Apple tested these new connectors enough??!!

Just bought a new one and it doesnt work

Just like everyone else I had just the one charger when I bought the phone so I just bought a brand new cable to have at work and it doesnt work at all through the usb. It came on once but did not have any option to download photos or anything but it charged. Second thru twelfth times I have tried it nothing. No pop ups on screen, no screen showing it is charging. What a piece of junk. Gave it two stars because the first one worked that was shipped with the phone. I plugged it into multiple computers too and still nothing

    A little let down...

    • Written by from Crawfordville

25 of 30 people found this useful

Pros: The cable is much easier to plug in and feels less fragile at the connection site than the 30 pin connector of old. I don't know if it is true, but it feels like it charges faster too.

Cons: The square edges of the USB part are tough on the fingers. When I first got my phone, I thought it was a little tough to get out of the adapter but just shrugged it off. I then plugged it into my apple keyboard to sync and all that, which went ok. One problem though, the cable is now stuck in the USB port. No amount of force will get it out. I resorted to needle nose pliers and merely broke the plastic casing off of it. USB is not something dramatically new in design. It baffles me how a company so focused on fit and finish could let that slide by. Other people I know have encountered similar problems. It is very frustrating. Now I have to charge my phone by my computer (which is in my bedroom, so it can be pretty bright without a blanket on the screen). I love apple products normally, but come on...

    High-Quality & Durable

    • Written by from El Campo

One of my concerns when first hearing about this cable was compatibility and durability, the Lightning cable just looked so thin online! Also, what about all my old docking stations?

Well, as it turns out, I didn't use the old docking stations much at all anyway -- everything I played my music on was wireless! I use my Apple TV for music in my room, and my AirPort Express is connected to my patio speakers, allowing me to stream my music outside. So who cares about the old iPod stereos? If you still need one, Apple does offer an adapter.

As for durability, the Lightning cable is made of some type of metal (not sure which though), and I've found it to be incredibly sleek and durable over the past few weeks. In fact, it's so durable that I'm surprised they didn't ship a new iPhone dock for it!

In summary, this change was much needed and paves the road for all sorts of engineering innovation in future products. The only question now is what to do with all the 30-pin dock connectors I've amassed over the past years.

    RIP, 30-pin dock connector. 2003-2012.
