I have only had my iPhone 5 a couple of months and my cord started pulling apart. It then started smoking:(. I have had iPods and iPhone 4 for years and never had a cord problem. I am sad this cord is such a ripoff and expensive to replace

Invested money in Iphone 5, the original cable stopped working after 4 months, and even the newly ordered one from Apple Store stopped after 2 months.. Just bad quality.. Hope Apple will do something to improve the quality

I'm a loyal customer to apple for over 5 years now and out of all the products and chargers I've had this is by far the worst! I've had it for about 5months since I bought the iphone 5 and it has given out on me! It has the shortest life span out of all the products I bought..

    The genuine cable works fine

I have four lightning cables (for work and home and car) and I've never had a problem (since last fall). Of course I bought my cables at the Apple store and not from Amazon or ebay for $10, so I'm sure I'm using real cables and not one of the millions of fakes that so many people are using. I bought a cheap cable at JFK while on a trip and the thing stopped working within 3 weeks!!! Those people having issues may want to check to see if their cables are cheap copies or the real deal! No one I know with real cables has had a problem yet.

For some reason this new usb decides to stop working in a short period of time. My first one lasted 3 months before it wouldnt charge my phone anymore. Apple store replaced it. 2 months later the brand new usb is not working either. extremely inconvenient. my old iphone usbs never had any problems. this needs to be fixed immediately. traveling and being unable to charge your phone is a problem.

Stopped working after about 3 months!

I love the new design of the cord as far as ease of use - doesn't matter which way you put it in, and the slim design is nice.

BUT (huge but), after about 3 months of use, it appears that the cable has broken at the joint of the hard plastic adapter and the cable itself. I have to strategically position the cord to ensure that a charge is flowing. It seems to just be a result of wear and tear - except I've only had it for 3 months, so this shouldn't be happening...YET.

Hopefully when I go to the Apple store today, they realize it's a faulty design and don't make me purchase a new one. One can only hope!

    Extremely Short Life Span

Unfortunately, this cable has the shortest lifespan of any Apple cable I have ever used. And I have practically used them all. I am on the 3rd cable since purchasing the iPad Mini this past Christmas and I even used electrical tape and a plastic tube to increase the longevity of the cable. Sadly, this evening, the 3rd cable has malfunctioned. I will have to purchase cable number 4 tomorrow.

I've had this cable for just four months and I have to position my phone and cable just right just so I can keep it charging, which means I can't use it at all while it's plugged in without having to reposition it. I really hope they come out with a more durable cable soon.

    The Lightning Connecter is great

I dont understand the negative reviews. The lightning connecter is great. Its about time they updated that archaic 30-pin. I've had my iphone 5 since it came out, and i'm still on the same cable that came with my phone. Dont be a idiot and tear your cable in half. Thats a personal problem, not an apple problem.

I'll give it a three to be nice. I would actually rate it a two. I went to my friends house on March 10, (yesterday) and when I got home I found out that it broke. I got this charger in early November with my iPhone 5. It only lasts 5 months (about) so I suggest don't re-buy it. I'm planning to exchange it with my dad at Best Buy or a local Apple Store soon but it still charges. You just need to put the cord in really weird positions. So far theirs no possible way to fix this, but to prevent it, don't bend the charger where the small dock is. And pull out the charger buy the plastic outline. Or the docks. Not the cable itself.

I love the new charger how ever once con to it is I've had the cable for 3 months and I had to replace it already because the wire disconnected from the part that actually fits into my phone so if they could make a stronger cable or something that would be great

I got my iPhone 5 on release day, and it came with the lightning cable..
Soon after the initial few weeks of using the cable, it began to fail, forcing me to purchase a new cable, which just today has failed.
I am for the first time disappointed in an apple branded product.
Apple needs to remedy this with a recall.

After 4 months say goodbye to your charger...

    • Written by from Denver

47 of 53 people found this useful

You gotta end up bendin the cord several ways just to get the dang thing to charge after about 4 months. I wish I never upgraded to the 5. What a terrible decision. And I'm sorry but it ain't worth 21$ dollars, if it breaks after 3-4 months. Change the price and fix this apple, you call yourselves a top company? Right...if I were a new customer, or repeat customer, buy multiple chargers or you're basically s.o.l.

    Terrible!!

I purchased my iPhone 5 the day it came out and I'm already on my third cable. When it starts to go the cable has to be bent in crazy ways just to get the phone to charge and eventually stops charging all together. I never had any problems with the old charges for iPhone and iPod I have tons around my house that still work from 5-10 years ago. Clearly people are having problems with the lightning cable so I'm not sure why apple hasn't made any changes to the design. It's awful ! :(
