Short, yes, but working fine after months of use

I agree with reviewers who say the cable is pretty short. But I've had this one since I bought my phone more than 7 months ago, and it's still working great. I also bought a $3 knock-off (for the office) that broke the 2nd time I used it, but the product that came straight from Apple hasn't caused any troubles so far.

Initially had some (major) problems with unplugging the USB end from my battery charger, but I've had 6 of these OEM Apple Lighting USB cables since October and none have failed yet. Fingers crossed. Only 4 stars because overpriced, should be $5-10, especially given the fact that you need 1 in every car, 1 in every purse/computer bag, 1 in every house, a couple in your kitchen and family room, etc. We spent $200 x 2 for our iPhones and $100 on cables. Go figure.

    Lightning Speed, Shocking Price

I have recently purchased the iPhone 5. The cable works perfectly and charges faster than the old cable. The disappointing part of this cable is that it is $19. I have 5-6 old cables that I use to charge my iPod touch, iPod nano, and iPad. Now that I have the iPhone 5, I need more than one cable. I like to keep my cable in my room for when I charge it for the night, one in my living room, and one in my car in order to play my music on my stereo. t would be great if the price of this cable and the wall plug that it connects to can be brought down to reasonable prices for people like me who need more than one cable. I must also add that these cables are not that strong which means it breaks easily. My friends went through 4-5 cables within the past year of having the iPhone 5. If this product breaks easily, then apple show lower the price because it makes no sense to charge the consumer to buy a product that will not be reliable.

    Good cable

The only thing I don't like about this cable is the price. We all know how inexpensive these can be manufactured.

From an engineering perspective, this cable and the Lightning port is pretty genius. Reversible and all digital. Gone are the days of noisy audio from analog ports.

    No problem but possible alternative

Haven't had a problem as many described. But there is an alternative if you have a micro USB adapter. It is called "Apple Lightning to Micro USB Adapter". Going to pick up one since I have a few of the micro USB adapters from my android days. Need as a possible spare

Not sure what everyone's problem is!

I have to admit that I wasn't to happy that Apple went to the Lighting cable at first, as I was thinking about the adapters (30pin to Lighting) that I had to buy which are very expensive. However, I find that the Lighting cable is much quicker to plug in (either direction too) and I find that it chargers fast.

Reading all these reviews where people are having these issues of failure and "on my 3rd cable because of epic failure" is very confusing to me...IT'S A FREAKING CABLE! How can you be having so many issues with it... really???

The only reason I rated it a 4 instead of 5 is because of the added extensions and adapters I have had to buy. But besides that it's all good with me.

    Short but fast.

This cable is great because it is smaller at the end but that doesn't really matter, what matters is the length, it is a little short and should be longer so I can sit on the couch and have it be charging.

    L to USB

I really like the new lightning end, but the USB end needs to be redesigned so the cord doesn't get ruined at the hole. As usual, Apple seems to be charging more than necessary for these cords. Also, once again... THE CORD IS TOO SHORT!!! How about a 6 footer and maybe a 9 footer??

    better than 30 pin

It would have been nice to go with the industry standard of mini usb, but it works fine and is more sturdy than 30 pin.

If the cord is too short for your needs just get a usb to usb extension.

    Symmetrical Genius

I want to kiss whoever pushed for the symmetrical connector design. Still too expensive for a cable... would actually like it a bit thicker/tougher for this price. But the symmetrical connector guys should win a nobel prize

I love the new adapter for the iPhone, but would really love to have a four foot long wire. I charge my phone in my bedroom and the outlet is behind the bed. Having a longer wire so my phone sits on the end table easily would be great.

They should make the grip area at the lightning connector end bigger,

    • Written by from PHILADELPHIA

or flare it wider. There is not much room to grip the plug, and even less if you are plugging it into an Iphone 5 while it's in a rugged case. If you pull on the wire instead of the hard part of the lightning connector to disconnect, you'll eventually break the wires under the rubber coating. I like the shrunken connector, but they have to either make the hard part of the lightning connector another half inch longer, or wider, so that it can be gripped more easily, which will help people avoid breaking the wires by pulling on the cord.

    How's this for an idea.....

i've read how people are complaining about the length of the lightning cord. Easy solution folks, pick up a USB extention cable which are sold in longer lengths. That's what I did.... Problem solved!

As for my 4 star rating..it'd be a 5 if the length were longer directly from Apple. otherwise, it's a cable, what's to brag about? It serves it's intended purpose.

    Lightning fast and flimsy

    • Written by from RPV

43 of 56 people found this useful

Based on all my kids' urging I bought the iPhone 5. It is a phenomenal phone. THE DEATH OF THIS PHONE WILL BE THE LIGHTNING. It is fast, but flimsy, and I am extremely concerned that the female jack on the phone will fail early, like the old Treo jacks did years ago, rendering the phone useless. Why such a silly deviation from a proven, years old product?

i use an usb extension now but why not make a longer cable since apple will not let other companys make other options.

This thing is great. If this was the only one we'd ever have known, people would be more enthusiastic. I love how I don't have to check for the icon when I use it and that it seats very securely. I didn't notice the cord length until I started reading these reviews. I look at it this way; Apple is a big proponent of industrial design wouldn't make a change like this unless they had throughly tried it themselves and validated that it was better. It is in my opinion. I'm taking one of the reviewers advice ands buying a second cord for $20. Let's face it; what can you buy that is worth anything anymore that's less than $20? A year from now people won't say anything about and accept it as normal.
