    Quits Working

    • Written by from Campbellford

I can say that the charger is a decent length, and works extremely well. It chargers both my iPhone 5s, and iPad Mini quickly.
However, recently it has broken. And it isn't the first time. It will charge, and then stop charging and continue to do so, which makes charging my devices a long process. But now, it isn't charging either of my devices at all.
It happened to me in February, and has happened once again. It's extremely infuriating and frustrating.
I treat my chargers and devices very well, and even hang my chargers from a hook after use. I don't let my pets touch them either. So as to how the charger breaks, I'm unsure but I can say I don't believe I'm at fault.
I really expect more from such a world renowned technology company.

I'm not that pleased with these cords.

    • Written by from Clarkston

It appears everyone is saying the same thing. These cords run out fast. The first one I had lasted me about a year but then went. Now I'm on my second one and it's barely holding it together. And it's only been 6 months! I do like the design though so I will give them some credit but come on. These should be built to last!

    Are you Kidding me?

    • Written by

I had gotten my iphone 5s in early December. The first month no problems with anything, everything was running smooth, it was a really great phone. Then in late January I realize that my iphone was not charging, I had no idea what was going on. I take it in to the Apple store and they give me a replacement. A week later this one messes up to, I go back there and they tell me it's my fault for straining the chord, so they did not give me a replacement and I had to buy a new one. The phone is perfect I couldn't ask for a better one, but the chargers are trash. To this date I've gone through 4 chargers in less than half a year. Apple really needs to improve the quality of their charger.

    Poor quality cable

    • Written by from Wimborne

We have four apple products in the house that use the Lightning Cable and every one has split where it goes into the connector. It has become costly to replace all four. (And we do use all four) I think Apple should look at this as it's obviously a design fault and compensate

You have to buy them, but they never last!

    • Written by from Daphne

Ive been a loyal iPhone user for years now. I have had to purchase about 7 cords since upgrading to the new Iphone and they all break. I love the phone, but not being able to charge it, is starting to drive me crazy. I never had this issue with the older models.

    Awful quality

    • Written by from Lewisburg

I've had the IPhone 5 since the day it came out and I've already been thru 5 cables. They are awful. The ends are to flimsy and after bending just a little they break. Why spend hundreds of dollars on a phone that you can't even charge?cables are worth $2. Not &$20.

You get about 6-12 months use - if you're careful

    • Written by from Manchester

I only got my iPhone 5S in October last year, and was skeptical about all the negative reviews of these cables, given that I've had the older generation iPhone/iPad cables in the past and never had a problem.

I've always taken reasonable care of my cables (I don't yank them around etc, but neither do I transport them in a foam-lined box). But sure enough, last week my lightning cable just stopped working. No external damage, no careless use or excessive bending of the cable. It just died.

So I have to buy another cable now.

    needs to be more robust

    • Written by from TRUMBULL

Well, mine lasted 15 months. I agree with the other reviewers in that it gets scrunchy on the end and stops working. I was pretty careful with it as well.

    Low quality!

    • Written by from Toronto

It's nice that the new cable has a smaller connector, but its quality is low, and the cable doesn't last much. Not only me, but lots of people have reported a non-working cable after some 3-6 months. Keep spending 21 bucks on a cable and creating waste is definitely not good! Apple has to improve the quality of this!

Not a very long life span...

    • Written by from Toronto

The size of this cable is definitely a plus but after only six months of having it, the wires inside have already snapped and now I am out a phone charger... Pretty disappointed considering the older iPhone chargers seems to live on for a very long time.

    Something's wrong

    • Written by from Sharjah

I'm not happy with the fact that my lightning cables keep not working. I have to move the cable in all different directions for my ipad mini to charge it would charge for about 15 minutes and then stop charging completely.
This isn't my first time to experience this with my lighting cables, and all my cables are apple certified.

    Constantly needing to replace

    • Written by from Austin

I got my iPhone 5 the day of release. My biggest issue is my lightning charger cord. I am about to buy yet another one. This will be my 4th cord. It gets jacked up at the end where I plug it into my phone. It occurs because I am using my phone while it's plugged in. Can you blame me. It's a fun little gadget, and I'm always draining the battery (which is really easy to do even with all kinds of juice suckers turned off). I treated my old devices the same and those cords were pretty hardy. I'm ok with the new lightning bit, the cords just need to hold up better.

    Faulty Connectors

    • Written by from Jonesboro

From reading all of the other reviews, I was one of the lucky ones. My cord lasted for 6 months before I went through the crazy positions to get my 5 to charge and it stopped charging all together. I never had this problem with the 30-pin connector, so until Apple rectifies this issue with the lightning connector, I am using my 4. If I wanted to use my 4, I wouldn't have upgraded to the 5. Please fix!

Product Stops Working After 2-6 Months

    • Written by from Sedalia

I have had an iPhone 5 for 2 years now. I have two lightning cables, one that came with the phone and another which I purchased when the first went bad. Both of these cables have gone bad once each now, and thankfully Apple will do an advanced RMA and ship me a new cable overnight. The issue is that the cables keep going bad. Hopefully Apple can do something about this and create cables that do not go bad. As said in other comments, I have many 30 pin cables that work great even though they are beat up and have NEVER had one actually go bad. Please get this issue fixed. I will say I am thankful for the replacement services and how easy / fast it is to get it replaced.

    USB cable breakage

    • Written by from Holland

I think Apple needs to revamp the cable. I have gone through more than I can count. I am very frustrated. They need to put a spring or something at the connector end to keep it from bending where the plug and cable connection to the iPad. I have gone through numerous cords because the wires break right at that spot. It needs something to hold the cable out straight for a couple inches to keep the cord from bending at this point. I don't know if it's a weak spot or what but mine continually break at this point including the casing around the wires. I took a spring from a spiral notebook and wrapped it around the connector spot and it helped for quite awhile but in the end, the spiral pierced the rubber on the cable.

    NOT DURABLE AT ALL!

    • Written by from Dayton

I've used this charger for about 10 months now (pushing/forcing through the last 3-4) and it has finally stopped working. I only use it to charge my phone on my nightstand and occasionally plug it into my MacBook to sync with iTunes. The problem is that it's short so I keep having to reposition it or tug away at it on my nightstand and the lightning-end of the cable got all scrunched up like another user below noted and for a while, I had to maneuver, move around and position the cable a certain way for it to charge but now it's completely done. I'm disappointed to say the least because for one, this wouldn't happen if the cable was longer (or they were actually selling a longer cable). Second, why am I paying $20 for a piece of no-good cable that breaks in less than 1 year and that probably cost less than $1 to make? It doesn't make sense. I love Apple and their products in general but I hate how they exploit their loyal customer base with these over-priced, no-good accessories that you ABSOLUTELY NEED! I used to have like 4-5 30-pin cables just laying around, now I don't even have 1 extra lightning cable just because it's such a waste of money and most of the non-OEM cables out there are literally junk... Anyways, I'm actually debating taking this to an Apple store and asking for a replacement for free as this cable should have a 1 year manufacturer warranty.
