    Cable is flimsy

    I just had to replace my original charging cable that came with my I-Phone 5, which is 1 1/2 years old. The wire broke down inside where it meets the pin that goes into the phone. For the first year, I only used the cable at home to charge. Then I purchased a power pack about six months ago to charge my phone away from home. I believe that transporting the cable in my bag probably caused the wire to bend repeatedly and over time, the wiring broke down inside. I just replaced it with the same cable because reviewers on Amazon stated that non Apple cables were less reliable. I think that it should have been made more durable due to the the nature of the use it will see. Apple products should not be so flimsy.

    Lasted this long

    I got the charger with my iPod 5th gen and it's worked and not bunched up or tore on the outside part for up to 2-3 months of getting it all fine I didn't have problems till it bunched up the outside of the cord protecting the inside started bunching up and then it ripped open I stopped it from ripping more for a few days but it has peeled even more it still charged fine now 10 months and it's 3in peeled off was working fine with a spring and a ribbon (spring to help stop peeling and keep it from stretching and moving ribbon to make it not look ugly) then the latest iOS 8 update and the battery sucked then the update to fix the bugs didn't do anything to fix the battery dieing quicker thing (it's those new undeleteable apps I don't like most only the iBooks and iTips are good hint hint) but now the wires are showing cuz the protection under the outside doesn't go as far as the wires do and now it's so touchy it takes hours to finally charge and it even jumps around with 50% charged then 20% remaing then back again it's like the battery is having some crazy instent mood swings but now it's soooo touchy that it's too difficult to charge I had to have it upside down in midair to charge
    Tips to make a better cord
    -make it longer maybe it would last longer if ppl weren't hugging the wall
    -make the protecting braided layer go as far as the wires go
    - make the outside layer out of something that doesn't stretch, crack, rip, bunch, get gooey, or any other thing that would ruin it's lasting time
    -the part were the wires connect to each side make the part on the outside of the go an inch farther out (will help stop the bending of that spot
    At least it lasted this long much longer than my sister's and she has to use the old charger

    Poor Quality, But What Choice Do We Have?

    I've used Apple chargers since I purchased my first iPod Classic more than ten years ago, soon followed by purchases of iPads and iPhones, and the old 30 pin to USB charger packaged with these devices lasted for years with daily use. When the new Lightning to USB models were introduced, I liked the plug's small size and simple input. But I also noticed that the wire doesn't seem to last as long as the larger, older charger models. Recently I threw my first Lightning charger away because the charger's cable developed a tear in the rubberized coating, and wouldn't charge my iPhone or iPad. While it's nice to have a brand new and clean white cable wire, I didn't appreciate having to purchase a replacement charging wire for $29. But what choice do we have?

    Good design, poor engineering

    The non-directional nature of the lightning design is wonderful.

    The engineering.. however, leaves much to be desired. For some reason, these USB cable stand out as uniquely fragile among all other chords. After a month or two's use, the cable accumulates internal coiling strain. After about 3-4 months' use, half of these chords begin to break. These lightning cables do not live up to the quality that Apple stands for.

    Covering not strong at all

    All the lightning cables I've had have functioned properly, but they are very susceptible to damage. Tiny kitten teeth have destroyed three of them and one had the covering shredded just from laying against a metal bracket (edges not particularly sharp) behind my desk.

    Only issue I've ever had is this cable

    So I'm EXTREMELY careful with my stuff. I don't even wind any cables while I store them away (but rather accordion it). This cable still gets "knotted" over time near the connecters somehow. I have done my own troubleshooting and have discovered the following: The cable seems to get knotted regardless of what I do. The last one ever since it went from the 30 pin to the lightening also began splaying and tearing right at the knot. Observing my use, it seems that because the lightening connector "grab" area is much smaller than the previous 30 pin connector "grab" area, I tended to pull the cord out more by the cable than the connector "grab" area. Over time, this turned into a splayed mess. Apple stated that they will replace any cables that begin to knot while on warranty. They replaced mine and so I'm a happy camper. I will give this 3 stars because they replaced it without fussing about...but the actual cable is a 1 star. :/

    Splitting Cable Cover

    I purchased a new cable on June 17, 2014 and it has already started to split. This is the 2nd cable that I have purchased and have had it split.....
    Really don't want to purchase another new cable. Of course the only want to contact support is to call they should provide an email address.....

    The cable I have now came with my iPhone5 a little over a year ago. I charge my phone pretty much every night and never use it while charging. This week I noticed the battery was lower and lower every morning when I woke up! I then came to find the little bendy trick people were taking about, and started to mess around with that... Well as of today I can no longer find a position where the cable works. So now my battery is low and I'm not happy I have to go purchase something that should have been fixed my now. . .

    One-year warranty!

    I don't really have a review here, but I see all these people saying they've spent a bunch of money buying new cables after only a few months. Apple products may be fragile, but the one good thing is that they come with a 1-year warranty. I go through earphones every few months, but I just show up at the Apple Store and they gladly give me a new pair with very little hassle (sometimes they like you to have made a Genius Bar reservation, but it's not a big deal). Since the purchase record is accessible on your account, it's easy to check whether it's still under warranty.

    Versatilte, not durable

    I've had this cable a couple of months. Since my iPhone5 uses so much juice, I have to take the cable with me. After repeated use, the cable no longer charges unless I wiggle is around like a set of headphones from 1985. I need to get a new one. At least they don't force you to buy the wall adapter.

    WARRANTY

    Ok, so despite the reviews i got this charger today, because well, what else am i going to do? i got my iPhone 5 in jan. 2013 and used the original cord it came with for a very long time, and the last few months/weeks of its life is when it was not taken care of properly (due to someone else using it) and that's when it finally broke. it lasted probably longer than 6 months. Anyway, not many other reviews are talking about the warranty it comes with, it has a 1 year warranty and you get the receipt through E-mail so you don't lose it. I'm sure that when this charger goes that they will try everything they can to say it was my fault and not give me the warranty but well see. So as long as you take care of it, like don't just rip it out by the cord, only unplug it by the plastic pieces and don't bend it/be careless, then it should last you a while and should be covered by warranty.

    Good, but not Perfect

    I am using it over a year and rubber cover of the cord torn badly while cable is still working but looks awful!
    Can't say that the cable is short as I am charging my phone from Macbook Pro but in some cases it might be not long enough

    broken

    i bought my ipod about 5 months ago and now the usb cable that came with it is completely useless. After no strenuous use whatsoever, the"lightning" entire head of the cable broke off. I now have to buy a $20 cable that will probably break again within the next few months and if I want a reasonably long cable I have to pay $30. Yay.

    Questionable Product

    Although I love the iPhone 5 and the new design, I've been having many problems with my charger. I purchased my device a month or two after it was released and I am currently trying to purchase my seventh charger. I do not know whether this at the fault of apple or me to be honest. I realized that it was my fault for using a high power wall charger which eventually BURNED the bottom of my charger. If you aren't using the appropriate wall charger for your device; then this might be your fault. If not, then this might be an issue of Apples. I know that my sister who has an iPhone 4 also experiences the same issues as me since she used a high powered wall charger that wasn't appropriate for her phone, so ensure that you''re choosing the right products for your device. For those complaining that the charger is "too short"; you can always purchase an USB connection cord, or just purchase the 2m charger that is also available. It is quite pricey for a charger, I feel it should be more convenient...
    Anyways; I personally believe that the design and simplicity are AMAZING, it is so much more easier for me to use my phone and also to use the charger. I hope apple can help find a resolution to why the chargers always crinkle and burn under the lightning section. Other than that, this product is amazing! Keep up the great work, Apple!

    Charger too short my factory charger just stopped working! Then I left my new charger on my trunk and it got crushed in the street! Now I have to buy new charger just hope it's not faulty like other people are saying! Also I think there's a year warranty on chargers so take advantage!

    This was a great step-up from the previous wire, in regards to the switch to lightning; however the cable/wire section of the wire is lacking. I've had the cable with my phone for less than a year and already the cable was bent near the lighting connector. This caused the charge to go in and out because the coil inside the cable must be bent as well. Apple should really consider beefing up the strength of the cable so that is does not become faulty so quickly. I use my phone a lot while it's charging and I end up twisting the cable and it becomes faulty. It still brings a charge to the phone; however if I move the cable slightly, it disconnects from and to the power source intermittently. The cable is too expensive to keep replacing; please consider this issue.

    Ok in the first months.

    I have had the original cable for my iphone 5 for 6 months, but now I'm having trouble to put my phone to charge since the charger is too 'weak'. The cable should be stronger since many people use their phones whilst laid in bed. Short lifetime and bad quality for an apple thing.
