I wish there was another option!

    • Written by from SAINT PAUL

I love the new design concept since plugging the old style ones in wasn't near as simple, but they are flimsy as heck! I have had every iPhone from the very beginning and every time I upgraded I just left the new cable in the box because I already had one. The only time I used a new one was when my dog chewed it in half! So thats 2 cables over many of years. With this cable I have already been through 6 since I got my phone in september! They have all done the same thing; first it just seems to have a bad connection or be shorting out but the cable looks intact and then within a day of that starting a hole or open area appears under where it connects to the phone. Please apple FIX this or give us another option because I can not continue paying 20$ for a new phone charger every couple of weeks!

    How's this for an idea.....

    • Written by from Centreville

i've read how people are complaining about the length of the lightning cord. Easy solution folks, pick up a USB extention cable which are sold in longer lengths. That's what I did.... Problem solved!

As for my 4 star rating..it'd be a 5 if the length were longer directly from Apple. otherwise, it's a cable, what's to brag about? It serves it's intended purpose.

Lightening sure to steal 30-pin's thunder :)

    • Written by from Denver

Apple, great job! I love this. It's similar to the micro usb in size, except unlike the 30-pin and micro usb, its symmetry makes it fuss free - and I like the way it snaps to let you know it's in all the way, too! Can't wait til more of your products migrate over! If there is one thing I would ask for, it would be an extension cord or longer cord altogether. The option to buy an extension piece would suffice (like what is offered with the MacBook Pro's).

    Always breaking

I've never had a charging cable go bad before but I'm on my 4th lightning cable now. And they're not cheap! It makes me want a different phone.

I agree with everyone else.. very low quality...

    • Written by from Pittsburgh

My charger is going to break, I can see the rubber bubbling up right beneath where the wire meets the connector. I know multiple people that I work with or I am friends with who had to buy new chargers. I compared it to the old charger... The old charger is very sturdy, especially in the area where the wire meets the connector.. I am not sure who made the choice to make it flimsy and poor but that is very bad business. Look at the rating of this charger!! Not because its new and different but because it is made out of paper!! We all deserve free, more durable cables.

    Thanks.

    Worst cable EVER

    • Written by from brooklyn

This cord is so cheap i am already on my 2nd cord going on to number 4. They should just give out multiple cords with the iphone5 just to cover the amount that break. I will never spend any money for a cord so apple should just redesign that cord all together.

    Disappointed

    • Written by from Markham

I've only had my iPhone 5 for 10 months and the charging cable is cracking at the end. The inside wire is showing. I never had any issue with my previous Apple products. My iPod Video charging cable is still fine after so many years! Did the quality of Apple products drop? How come your price didn't drop? After reading other comments I guess I'm lucky my lasted 10 months. Will have to reconsider purchasing another Apple product.

    Absolute JOKE

    • Written by from Hammond

I've had this cord for about four months and the lightning end of the cord came loose and won't charge my phone. It's a shame the 30-pin connecters would last 4 years, not 4 months.

Great if you get one that works

    • Written by from Tracy City

I ordered two of the new iphone 5 (for hubby and me) and really like the ease with which this cable can be connected to the phone. Unfortunately, one of our cables was completely dead straight out of the box (it won't charge or sync with a computer) and we were told we would have to drive hours to the nearest Apple store to exchange it. Pretty disappointed on that front. I'm also with others who would like it to be a bit longer.

    USB end fits VERY TIGHT

    • Written by from scott depot

Great idea going with the smaller, reversible lightning cable. I like it a lot. until I have to remove it from my USB port on my computer or power adaptor. it fits very tight in every USB port i've tried. Im afraid to plug it back into my MacBook Pro for fear of it destroying the slot completely.

    Catches Fire!!!

    • Written by from Seattle

Apple: Please, recall all of these and use a new vendor to manufacture these cables! We've had multiple and they all get broken at the neck - right by the lighting connector end. And yesterday I picked up one to plug in our iPad and burned my fingers! When I looked, I saw that it was smoldering!! I am so lucky. It was laying on the carpet - could have burned down our house! This is unbelievable coming from Apple.

    Disposable Cord Deserves Disposable Pricing

    • Written by from Jacksonville

I'm on my fifth lightening cord in less than one year. I have wrapped the length of my newest cord in electrical tape hoping this will extend the life. If not, it's time to consider other products, which is sad as I have loved the seamless integration of my iPhone with my iPad and iMac. But continually purchasing cords for already high-priced items is insanity. Clearly there is a design flaw. Apple, it's time to drastically cut the price of this cord to match it's disposable performance, or redesign this cord. Either way, your loyal customers deserve apologies at the least.

Worst Apple product I`ve dealt with

    • Written by from WALNUT CREEK

If I had treated my gf with 1/10th of the love and tenderness I treated this cable with, I would`ve been a happy man. Now I`ve nothing left ! This cable gave up on me, multiple times, and so did my gf. Apple - If you can take one of these problems off my plate, it would be great.

    Zapped by Lightning Cables

    • Written by from Shawnee

I love Apple, have at least one of most products and have never written a review — but the lightning cables are honestly terrible. I have 3 iPad minis for 3 children ages 10-16, and in the past year I have easily purchased at least 10 replacement lightning cables... originally starting with Apple brand, then trying other brands, different lengths and most recently applying wire tape to each end of the cables going into the lightning and usb connectors - before ever being used - with hope that it might help to prevent damage to the internal wiring. I've even made quadruple certain that each child knows how to gently connect/disconnect the cables and have used different color cables to determine if one child is more rough than another, but this theory proved false. Ultimately, it comes down to a cable that needs to be constructed to match the quality of the product and guaranteed/easily replaced, if needed. The price of replacing the cables is ruining an otherwise incredible experience with your products.

    not a premium product

    • Written by from Freiburg

    These cables are a disgrace.
I just bought the THIRD one within less than ONE YEAR!

After ONE NIGHT using it I get the msg that it might not be original and might not work.

Apple charges ridiculous amounts for a c**p product. Really not premium.

If possible this product should be awarded 0 stars.

    Garbage

    • Written by from Portugal Cv. - St. Philip's

The lightning cable is absolute trash. I got one with my iPhone 5 and it lasted me three months of use, and will no longer work. These cables are too expensive to be constantly replacing. I have had the USB cable from my 3rd gen. iPod nano for the last 6 years and used it daily, and it still works perfectly. Did you think to test these new cables before selling them? I'm very angry, as I don't have extra money to be paying every few months to replace a phone cord. A rating of zero should be an option here.

    HORRIBLE CHARGER

    • Written by from lithonia

I am a strict apple user and I have been for almost 6 yrs now, so when the Iphone 5 came I out I got it. The problem with the iPhone 5 that the charger is horrible. I have been through 3 chargers within a year. Every charger I've had has broken in the same place and in the same way. They are prone to shortages. APPLE YOU MUST DO BETTER, I AM EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED!
