    Cord Easily Tears

    • Written by from Austin

I had a similar problem with the old iPhone and iPad chargers, but that was nothing compared to the USB to Lightning cord. I have owned the iPhone 5 for nearly a year and have taken great care of the cord. Nonetheless, the cord bunched up at the end and is now torn. I refuse to pay $20 for a cord that I know will break in a few months. I'll simply take my business elsewhere.

    Be very careful

    • Written by from Overland Park

This is a really flimsy cable. I had two at the beginning, one for home and one for my car. After getting the car one a bit twisted up the end snapped off. This is just a terrible design. I don't understand any real benefit to using such a thin cable as a power connector. It's the biggest complaint I have, that Apple couldn't have just went with a standard mini-USB or something, because this is far too flimsy for real world use, and the cost is outrageous.

    Switching to Samsung

    • Written by from Lake Orion

Purchased my only Apple product, the new iPhone 5 in December. Like so many others here, I am on my third cable. Not only do they break, but when you least expect them to; while on vacation, forcing you to buy replacements at high prices.

As much as I love the phone, the cost and life expectancy of the lightning cable, is sending me to Samsung.

Lightning to USB too short, too expensive & poor quality

    • Written by from Mesa

The Lightning connectors are far too flimsy. I've had three of them fail now, and they are too short. Particularly at the outrageous price Apple wants for them. How about making a 6' cable for 1/3 the price of the short one you sell now?

This new "lightning" charger is terrible

    • Written by from Clearwater

Me and my fiance's charger both started not working at about the same time. An extra one I bought that I had at work (which I never used) is already becoming faulty. Ordered two off eBay which are already not working.... Come on Apple, are you becoming greedy too?

    Lightning Cable Stinks

    • Written by from Richboro

I LOVE my iPhone 5 but...seeing as how I can't use it if it's not charged, I am writing a review on the fact that the lightning cables STINK. I have had three in the past 2 months and all of them are broken with no wear to the wiring nor damage from "the elements" as apple likes to say. I'm really disappointed because while on vacation my power cord broke and my phone died and I had no way of charging it. I would have had a lot to say to Apple if something had gone wrong and my phone was utterly useless due to the fact that their stupid charger didn't work. I hope that apple appreciates their loyal customers enough to address this issue. How about we stop outsourcing to china?? I don't mind paying more money for a product that works so, instead of having china make it for a cheaper price, produce it in the U.S. and do it right.

    Junk

    • Written by from Clayton

This cable is a piece of junk. It stops working after a few weeks of casual use. Apple makes it difficult to get a replacement and $20 for this .25 cent product is a total ripoff. I truly regret my Iphone 5 purchase.

    Shocking

    • Written by from Baytown

Nothing like being shocked from your iphone 5 cable. Beware these are very dangerous, picked up my charging phone in my car and was shocked by exposed wires. I then began checking mine and my husbands other iphone 5 cables to realized that they are all breaking in the same exact spot. Not worth $19.99 Apple needs to recall these cables and introduce a new reinforced design. NOT HAPPY!

    Terrible Cable

    • Written by from Skillman

This cable has already broken. I had to purchase additional cables which still break. They are made cheaply. Do not buy this cable. Go with a different brand that makes a much stroger cable.

    FIX IT

    • Written by from Toccoa

These cables are absolute garbage. They are prone to excessive breaking while (clearly) they are not too cheap to buy. You make them $5 or $10 and I'll shut my mouth. Until then, fix the gosh darn issues. Only rated it a star because I had to in order to submit (it deserves none).

Not even half a year, and the lightning cord has shorted. I know iPhone 5 users that have been through THREE charger cords since the release of the phone!! Now I have to go buy a new one. Terrible.

Go back to a cord that works

    • Written by from Brandon

Hey Apple, I left android phones because I was tired of stuff that did not work. Started with the iphone4 and I still have the original charger that is almost 3 years old. I have replaced 3 of these lightning cables since December because the solder breaks off inside the connector from very little stress. There needs to be a real solution brought to the table for this. We don't expect this kind of garbage from an apple product.

    Breaks easily

    • Written by from Green Cove Springs

for some reason the cables for older iPhones have lasted way long than this one. it breaks after the little part that covers the first bit of the cable on the lightning side, it needs to have a bit larger part that covers the rest of the wire. The casing comes unattached leaving the wire free to bend and become frayed right away.

It probably because the cord is short and the lightning end is where it's most likely to be bent, but Apple needs to take that into affect and maybe even making the plastic casing longer so that your entire index finger can grab it

2 Cables bad in 6 mos. = defective product

    • Written by from Washington

I really, really wanted an iPhone. For years. Now, I want my Droid back. The latest peeve is that my 2nd lightning cable in 6 mos. has gone bad. Both cables started out ok, then would intermittently loose power and connectivity, and eventually stopped working altogether. I don't have children or pets, and the cables just sit on my desk -- I don't abuse them by carrying them around in a bag or a car. These things are not cheap, and should not be so flimsy. I would give it 0 stars if I could. No wonder Apple's stock is tanking.

    • Written by from Dundee

This is the worst charger I have ever come across.
It is FAR too short and it is TERRIBLY MADE
I use many computers and have never seen such a short badly made cable
I got my iPad (unwillingly because I wanted a Samsung) for Christmas last year (2012) and am now on my 4th cable compared to my trusty laptop charger that has lasted me 4 years.
Classic apple, make 'em cheep, sell 'em dear.
Ps. It says 1 star but I would rate this 0 star because it is is bad (trying not to swear)
