    I would give this sorry excuse of a apple product 0 stars if there was that option. I have gone through SIX of these horrible cables with all of them breaking within the time span of a few weeks to 1 or 2 months from general use. I can not stress how horrible of a product this is and it has made me seriously consider switching to a different brand of phone. These cables are EXTREMELY non-durable and Apple really needs to get their act together as this is very disappointing for a avid user of their products.

    Felt cheap out of the box and performed accordingly.

    Charger gave out after a few months. I'd have to mess with it for forever to make it work and now the wire is beginning to become exposed, so if I die in a fire have no doubt of the source. I like the idea of the reversible 9pin but the execution is terrible. I worry that this is the kind of quality to expect from apple moving forward.

    If there was 0 star option, I'd click it due to poor cable design

    Regretfully, the cable is designed in a way that causes it to break. The smaller end that goes in the phone is hard to grip so you end up pulling on the cable itself which results in a damaged cord. At the very least, there should be some sort of a grip on both ends of the cord; in addition, some reinforcing of the joint where the cables enter the plugs should be introduced. Maybe a an extra coating that is one piece with the plug AND cord - make it is multipurpose - easier gripping and extend it down one inch of the cord to protect from accidental bending and pulling. Apple is supposed to be the leader, but the cords on all their phones seem to be something I'd buy at a discount $$ store. Don't treat your loyal customers that way.

    The smaller end does slide in so much nicer than the older cables, but then due to that same smaller end, it makes it harder to remove without a grip of some sort.

    Poor outer shielding

    I'm on my 3rd cable with normal use. The outer rubber shielding cracks and falls apart near the lightning and USB connectors leaving the wires exposed.
    If we have to buy apple approved cables, make them apple worthy!!!!

    on the third cable, this needs to be fixed, my last cable lasted roughly 3 weeks before issues started, a few days later, no function whatsoever

    My family is going through charging cables for our iPhone 5's at an absurd rate. The cable simply ceases to function after a few weeks, even without external signs of wear or damage. This is an immense inconvenience and an embarrassment to Apple!

    Hate it!

    There has to be a better way to make these Apple! This cord is flimsy and won't stay connected to my iPad mini without me moving it around in place and then I don't dare move it or even breathe on it so it will charge. This is the second one that I've bought and if there were other makers and/or somehow to charge this without having to use this charger I would. I hate this product!

    Works great if you're gentle

    Hello, I have no issues with this cable. You must insert and pull out the cable on the phone end using the plastic part. Never pull or push on the wire itself. I believe that's how people are breaking them. Had mine 2 years and it still looks and works like new.

    I had gotten my iphone 5s in early December. The first month no problems with anything, everything was running smooth, it was a really great phone. Then in late January I realize that my iphone was not charging, I had no idea what was going on. I take it in to the Apple store and they give me a replacement. A week later this one messes up to, I go back there and they tell me it's my fault for straining the chord, so they did not give me a replacement and I had to buy a new one. The phone is perfect I couldn't ask for a better one, but the chargers are trash. To this date I've gone through 4 chargers in less than half a year. Apple really needs to improve the quality of their charger.

    I currently have 6 lighting cables and 3 have frayed near the connecter and the other 3 are getting there. The oldest is 4 months old. This kind of built in obsoleteness is needs to be addressed or apple needs to release licensing of the connecter to someone who can produce something that isn't garbage.

    Poor quality cable

    We have four apple products in the house that use the Lightning Cable and every one has split where it goes into the connector. It has become costly to replace all four. (And we do use all four) I think Apple should look at this as it's obviously a design fault and compensate

    Lightning cables are terrible

    Worst Apple product ever! These lightning cables last no longer than 4 months. The original Apple cables and the Apple certified other brands all fail within a few months. I have been through 5 of these cables in a year for one I-Phone 5, what a waste of money.

    I have four lightning cables and each of them now have frayed ends near the connector. This is clearly an engineering problem. If Apple was wise they'd offer replacements.

    Very disappointed in Apple

    I have owned an iPhone since July, 2007 and have never had a problem with charger cords. Until the lightning. Like so many others, my cord failed at the point at which it joins the connector plug. A trip to the Apple store brought no satisfaction in that I believe that I should have been given a free cord for my slightly out of warranty iPhone. Instead, I chose to pay $17 for a replacement. I expect more out of Apple than to be blamed for the cord's demise. Apple needs to own up to the fact that these problems are the result of poor engineering and poor design.

    I have had my cable for 5 months it has no damage what so ever however it has just stopped working. I looked to buy a genuine one from apple saw the price and closed the web page. No wonder people are buy cheap fake ones off of eBay and damaging themselves. Please sort this out apple.

    Terrible quality

    I have never had to replace a charger with any other phone I've owned. I've had this charger cable for 10 months, and yes, it's covered by warranty- but unfortunately I have relocated to Kenya, so no dice. Bought a knock-off for $18 and I'm hoping this actually lasts longer than the Apple product! It's unfortunate that Apple also make these cables SO specific, bc once it breaks, you are forced to buy a replacement (whereas as I'm sure we all have a number of micro and macro USB cables).
    If they are going to continue making such a poor quality product, they need to start replacing them for free (even past warranty). I would expect much more from an Apple product.

    I wanted to give 0 star..... My family has three iPhone 5 and all charging cables do not work. Apple can not make even a simple hardware. So disappointing and frustrating.. It is a total shame for Apple to produce such a poor quality product.

    These lightning cables do not last very long. They stop working after few weeks. I have thrown away 4 or 5 (I have lost count) lightning cables in the last 8 months. Please recall this product.
