    Good Cables

    • Written by from ELMHURST

I have 3 of these cables and have used them between about 1 to 1.5 years, including the original that came with the iPhone 5 and subsequent ones that I bought. I use them at home and at work, and I also carry one in my bag that I use for ad-hoc charging in public places and in rental cars. I misplaced one recently and came to the site to purchase a replacement, and I am surprised to see all the poor reviews for the cable. I didn't encounter any of the issues described by other reviewers. My only gripe is that they are a little pricey but otherwise I am happy with the product.

    Exactly as advertised

Assuming this is the same cord that was packaged with all iPhone 5's I cannot speak highly enough on it's quality and durability. I have had this cord, and only this one cord, for over a year now and it has traveled many miles with me and manages to still do its job flawlessly at the end of each day. For people who say it is "too short" I beg you to read the description before buying as a replacement, for this item is clearly labeled "1 m" which stands for 1 meter or 3.28 feet. Unless people are receiving cables that are less than this length, I implore Apple to remove all reviews that give this cord a bad rating based on the length of the cable. As for durability, I cannot speak for the other thousand-odd reviewers, but I generally take care of my things and with a little care and respect for the item I believe it is solidly built. However, I will admit one gripe about the cable... Price. I know very well that Apple's products are built very specificity and to a higher standard than most. Still, $19.00 for a 1m cable? No wonder Apple is posting such insane profits. Maybe give back to the people who give you so much and drop the price a bit?

WARNING - lots of 3rd party fraud

    • Written by from Placentia

Professional reviews of Apple cables vs off brand demonstrate that Apple product is reliable. 3rd parties are selling poorly made knock-offs. On Amazon many cables and power supplies are listed as Apple - but when received are clearly not. Some of the imitations are very good and so hard to spot. Now I only buy parts direly from Apple.

    Good cable.

    • Written by from Pedricktown

It's a great cable but I give it 4 stars only because of it's length and you can't buy it in any other length but other then that it's a good cable I like how you can put it in your device either way so you don't have to worry about what way it goes in anymore if your in a dark room I also like that it's a bit faster uploading things not much faster but a bit over all I'm happy with it but it does need more cord sizes that you could buy!

    Short but good

I have been using apple products through many generations of their products. I really like the new lightning adapters. They are much faster and easier to insert than the 30pin adapters.the only problems I have had is that I wish I could get a longer 6 foot cable made by apple (tried an "apple certified" off brand that died within a month) and second, the cable is thin which makes it nice and flexible, but that thinness also makes them prone to breakage where they connect to the adapter collar. Last year I found a great "life hack" solution online for this: take out the spring on an old ballpoint pen and put it on the cord to bridge the connector collar and cord. It will keep the cord from bending too far and breaking. It's such a simple solution.

If you are unsatisfied, you're not buying the right product

    • Written by from Adrian

This is the cord that comes standard with the iPhone 5s (and I would assume the 5c and 5). I use it for charging in bedroom, kitchen, at work, in the car, etc. The functionality is perfect and works with a variety of USB ports. I have had terrible difficulty with NOEM (non-original equipment manufacturer), both cords (i.e., USB to lightning) and adapters (i.e., 30 pin to lightning). Apple's overpriced suggested retail is what's best as far as iPhone 5s compatibility is concerned.

    Great

    • Written by from Mansfield

There are a lot of bad reviews about how this charger breaks. I've personally had no problems with mine and I've had my phone for about 6-7 months. Mine stopped working well when my dog's leg got caught on it as she was running, so it makes sense. Other than that it worked perfectly and I'll be buying another.

    Quality?

    • Written by from Houston

As others have said, the lightning cable is really great and very convenient. However, it seems that the charger didn't last as long as expected.. In less than half a year, my cable doesn't work anymore, for the wires are broken. I'd rather give this one a 3.5, but oh well. Nothing we can do about it, but buy another one. Props to Apple for the new design, though.

Short, yes, but working fine after months of use

    • Written by from MANHATTAN

I agree with reviewers who say the cable is pretty short. But I've had this one since I bought my phone more than 7 months ago, and it's still working great. I also bought a $3 knock-off (for the office) that broke the 2nd time I used it, but the product that came straight from Apple hasn't caused any troubles so far.

    Working great so far

Initially had some (major) problems with unplugging the USB end from my battery charger, but I've had 6 of these OEM Apple Lighting USB cables since October and none have failed yet. Fingers crossed. Only 4 stars because overpriced, should be $5-10, especially given the fact that you need 1 in every car, 1 in every purse/computer bag, 1 in every house, a couple in your kitchen and family room, etc. We spent $200 x 2 for our iPhones and $100 on cables. Go figure.

    Lightning Speed, Shocking Price

    • Written by from Bay shore

I have recently purchased the iPhone 5. The cable works perfectly and charges faster than the old cable. The disappointing part of this cable is that it is $19. I have 5-6 old cables that I use to charge my iPod touch, iPod nano, and iPad. Now that I have the iPhone 5, I need more than one cable. I like to keep my cable in my room for when I charge it for the night, one in my living room, and one in my car in order to play my music on my stereo. t would be great if the price of this cable and the wall plug that it connects to can be brought down to reasonable prices for people like me who need more than one cable. I must also add that these cables are not that strong which means it breaks easily. My friends went through 4-5 cables within the past year of having the iPhone 5. If this product breaks easily, then apple show lower the price because it makes no sense to charge the consumer to buy a product that will not be reliable.

    Good cable

    • Written by from San Jose

The only thing I don't like about this cable is the price. We all know how inexpensive these can be manufactured.

From an engineering perspective, this cable and the Lightning port is pretty genius. Reversible and all digital. Gone are the days of noisy audio from analog ports.

    No problem but possible alternative

    • Written by from Martinez

Haven't had a problem as many described. But there is an alternative if you have a micro USB adapter. It is called "Apple Lightning to Micro USB Adapter". Going to pick up one since I have a few of the micro USB adapters from my android days. Need as a possible spare

Not sure what everyone's problem is!

    • Written by from Dallas

I have to admit that I wasn't to happy that Apple went to the Lighting cable at first, as I was thinking about the adapters (30pin to Lighting) that I had to buy which are very expensive. However, I find that the Lighting cable is much quicker to plug in (either direction too) and I find that it chargers fast.

Reading all these reviews where people are having these issues of failure and "on my 3rd cable because of epic failure" is very confusing to me...IT'S A FREAKING CABLE! How can you be having so many issues with it... really???

The only reason I rated it a 4 instead of 5 is because of the added extensions and adapters I have had to buy. But besides that it's all good with me.

This cable is great because it is smaller at the end but that doesn't really matter, what matters is the length, it is a little short and should be longer so I can sit on the couch and have it be charging.

    L to USB

    • Written by from Layton

I really like the new lightning end, but the USB end needs to be redesigned so the cord doesn't get ruined at the hole. As usual, Apple seems to be charging more than necessary for these cords. Also, once again... THE CORD IS TOO SHORT!!! How about a 6 footer and maybe a 9 footer??

    better than 30 pin

    • Written by from Daly City

It would have been nice to go with the industry standard of mini usb, but it works fine and is more sturdy than 30 pin.

If the cord is too short for your needs just get a usb to usb extension.

I want to kiss whoever pushed for the symmetrical connector design. Still too expensive for a cable... would actually like it a bit thicker/tougher for this price. But the symmetrical connector guys should win a nobel prize

I love the new adapter for the iPhone, but would really love to have a four foot long wire. I charge my phone in my bedroom and the outlet is behind the bed. Having a longer wire so my phone sits on the end table easily would be great.
