Constant source of problems, frustration and added expense!

    • Written by from Round Rock

They quit charging our phones after 3-6 months. I have four iPhones that use the lightning cable and I must have purchased 20 additional cables over the past 18 months. I've purchased Apple and numerous knock offs, including The Friendly Swede with lifetime warranty, but they all go bad after a short time. It took three email exchanges and me sending them pictures to get a replacement with The Friendly Swede, so I gave up getting a warranty replacement when the others from them went bad.

There must be something wrong with the design for ALL of the manufacturers to have so much trouble building something that will last. I was considering switching from iPhone anyway, but the constant problems and added expense associated with these cables has pushed me over the edge. I think I will switch my family to something else when I upgrade our phones.

    dangerous & poorly made

    • Written by from Goshen

I've had the cord for over two years now & its always been in the same exact spot, I noticed at around 3/4 months the cord was fraying at the top near the part that gets plugged into the phone. I never bend my cord so it was really surprising & annoying that it was fraying from me taking it in & out of my phone. I didn't think of calling Apple & replacing it, & I didn't bother buying a new one cause it still worked. Slowly it continued to rip open more to expose the wire & occasionally I noticed my phone getting really warm. The top half of the cord closest to the phone also starting turning from white to yellow & it feels thinner & you can see the wire beneath it. Apparently the cord was getting hot & burning through the rubber outer part.

It's dangerous & poorly made. My older cord pre lightning never did this & it had 3-4 year usage.

    Lightning cable issues

    • Written by from Laguna Niguel

I would like to hear what Apple is planning to do about lightning cable failures?

The lightning cable supplied with my new iPhone 6 failed after 8 months - the phone no longer recognized it as an Apple cable and failed to charge. Apparently this is an all too common issue.

My old iPhone 3GS cable lasted several years without a problem.

Tim, Jony, Eddy - are you listening to your customers?

    Very bad

How is it posible that such a great piece of machinery can come with such a a weak charger. The cable bends and then just stops working. I have parchased two chargers for my iPad and they have both broken. Unbelieveable. Very disappointed Apple must be more responsible with it's customers, show us some respect. Fix this flaw.

    Absolutely overpriced piece of garbage

    • Written by from Nelson

I have bought over 8 of these cords in the last year. Out of all the overpriced Apple products this is the one that I have to use and it bothers me like no other. Apple has caused non-official Apple cords not to work with the IOS 7 update. At the end of the day its just a power cord, it should be cheap like the micro usb cords used with android I never had a problem with. This expensive cord however stops working frequently and becomes totally useless altogether out of nowhere. Really dissapointed.

    Quality is Disappointing

    • Written by from Fairview Park

I am on my third cable. The life expectancy of these cables is six months to a year. The cable is not durable. I have had two that the wire pinched through the plastic and one that scrunched up. Needless to say they stopped working. For all the technological advances Apple creates they cannot develop a quality cable.

    consistently terrible quality

    • Written by from Davis

These are really terrible. I've been using Apple products for about ten years, pretty much since there was an iPod, and I replace this cord at least twice a year. I would happily pay twice as much money if they would build a cord that was worth something and would last for a couple years. I've tried aftermarket, but haven't had much better luck. I don't know why this is so hard, my other device cords are still going strong after a few years (besides by MacBook, which I replace about once every two years). I really wish they cared about making this a good product, it's just depressing.

    Waste of money

    • Written by from San Isidro

I bought this charger because mine had stopped working, and in 3 months, this one stopped to. It looks brand new, still spotless, but when I plug it, nothing happens. And the worst thing is that I do not live in the US, where I bought it so I cannot get to the store to make a claim. I tried to contact support and it is so hard that I got tired.

    Lightning to USB Cable (1 m) IPHONE 5 & 6

    • Written by from Melrose

Product design is simply poor. Just talked to help about three weeks ago about poor quality of Lightning to USB Cable (1 m) cords. Live out in rural area, so cant just bring cords in everytime they quit working. so I just went ahead and ordered 2 more $19 each. First one just failed 10 days after we received it. This one failed and phone says not compatible with an ipone 6 after a short period of use, less than 10 days and ends are fine. Tried cord on several charger plugs made by apple and made no difference still get same warning on phone that cord is now not compatable.

APPLE YOU EVER GOING TO IMPROVE THE CORDS? We have 4 apple phones in the house and have had problems for years now with cords.

I have been an Apple customer for years, it is alarming the amount of times I have had to change chargers. Apple needs to start making the charger cable stronger and more flexible. What Apple should do instead of releasing a new phone every year is to REVAMP the charger.

Apple accessories… inferior to the core!

    • Written by from San Jose

While I love my iPhone and Macbook, having to replace my iPhone cable at least 2 times since I bought it a year ago makes me wonder… is this Apple's way to make money off of loyal consumers?! Both times, my cable failed to work after a few months. At least some of it did (?). It still charges, but I'm unable to sync from my Mac. I know it's the cable, because I was able to sync my music and stuff with my sisters cable. So disappointed and upset with Apple. If this keeps up and their product quality doesn't improve… they've definitely lost me.

    Flawed design.

    • Written by from Colonia

While I tend to take care with the cable and I've seem to have gotten more life out of it than most, each of the cables I have gotten have lasted less than a year or so. If the stress points are a known flaw, is there some reason there have not been steps to correct this? The upside is I've gotten the replacements for free through my Apple Care, but there is still a hassle of having to go to a store to get the replacement.

    Works great...for about 3 months

    • Written by from kenmore

Great could for three months, then it gets scrunched up and the iPhone says the accessory is not compatible. These cords either need to be $50 with a lifetime warranty, or a dime a dozen because they're not with $19+ tax. Seriously Apple! Make a cord that lasts!
