Even charges the 3rd generation iPad (just recently, the not-so-new iPad)

    • Written by from Salt Lake City

Albeit at a slower rate, this adapter also charges the iPad with the Retina Display. I feel that this is a big benefit, as one adapter can be used for a wide range of products. I gave it 4 stars because I feel (as others have also expressed) it is overpriced.

    As advertised

Found one of these lying around as I had a shuffle at some point. Works with my Touch-5, but also with the iPad-2. Charges the pad a bit slower than the other products, but a nice small size. Ordering another.

Another excellent but overpriced Apple peripheral

    • Written by from Lake Forest

The iPhone is amazing, way better than a BlackBerry or Droid, but when it comes to basic peripherals, think outside the Apple Store. $19 for a power adaptor (that costs less than $1 to manufacture) is ridiculous, even one that produces a strong charge. Go with a reputable manufacturer like PowerGen or Belkin that specializes in chargers and cables. I recently bought a Belkin iPhone power adapter that charges just as fast as Apple's charger. It cost $11. Plus it came with a power cord. And the cord is way thicker and sturdier than the stylish but flimsy cord that Apple makes.

    Exactly what it says

    • Written by from Battle Ground

Why people are giving this less than 5 stars and complaining that there is no cord is ridiculous. Look at the picture and read the description. It's all there for you so stop complaining when it arrives and you don't have the cord! Yes, it would be nice if the cord came with it but don't blame the device because you didn't read the description and then give it a bad review!!! It works and is described perfectly.

    poor design

Why do the prongs not "fold down" into the body of the adaptor? Would be easier to carry around!

    Does what it's supposed to

I got this adapter with my iPhone. As an adapter, it adapts. My iPhone 4 and iPad 2 both work with it no problem. No where in the description does it say "Comes with cable".

People if you didn't read the description and details it's your own fault what part of ADAPTER only ISN'T CLEAR....??
This is what is wrong with people today they don't bother reading the instructions then are frustrated at the product for not being what they thought learn from mistakes.. I did happily never again not read the fine print :)

    read the products title

to the person who stated "be warned, doesnt include cable"
you need to read the description and LOOK at the picture Apple provides. This Clearly states: APPLE 5W POWER ADAPTER. and does not show a picture of a cableor any detail of cable being apart of the product. Check your reading comprehension skills.

5W does the job, but the 12W does it better

    • Written by from Calgary

This adaptor does the job if you are just charging the iPhone.

But the 12W charges the iPhone faster, is compatible with more devices (iPad), is cheaper and has the option to handle international Apple socket adaptors if you travel. Spend your money on the 12W.

Does not come with a cable

    • Written by from Newport Coast

The fact that a cable does not come with the charger should be made explicit on the product page. It does not do that.

For all the people who are yelling and screaming about how people should read the product page more carefully, this is like buying a car and it not coming with a key and then yelling at people for not seeing a picture of a key on the product page. Ridiculous. Every charger I ever bought in my life came with a cable.

Apple: Easy fix. Instead of warning us about the fixed prong, make it clear cable is sold separately.

    Word of Caution

    • Written by from Brooklyn Park

I discovered that to make a phone call, the iphone 5 uses >5W of power. I had my phone plugged into the 5W adapter and was on a phone call and the battery died. For the same price go with the 12W adapter....

if you're not needing to be on a call, and just want to have it charge overnight or something then this is fine, but if you're expecting to be able to use your phone while plugged in (and not use the battery) then the 5W adapter isn't the one you want.

$10 lower price now without cable

    • Written by from Darien

Those who complain about the lack of a cable should recognize that the 5W charger was offered with a cable in the past, but the price for charger and cable at the time was $29. If you want to pay less, feel free to shop for third party chargers and cables. There are plenty of the market. Personally, I prefer the 12W charger for $29 because it's more versatile. The prongs fold up so it's easy to carry around in a pocket, plus it is approved as a power source for any Apple mobile device since the very first iPod to the latest iPads.

This is the charger received with my Ipad mini. It worked for one charge, then it worked with a HDMI adapter but it no longer charges at all. This is a major problem.
