Adapter too easily disconnects while using computer in lap

    • Written by from Lynchburg

I love my new MBA, but the MagSafe 2 power adapter is a bit of an annoyance as it continually disconnects from the computer when I am using it in my lap. If I shift positions or move the computer, even a little, the adapter frequently falls off. When I can, I prefer to use the computer plugged in, and save the battery for when I am away and not near a plug. I much prefer the old design which fit more snugly to the computer and had a stronger magnet. The adapter still charges the computer just fine after 5 months of use and shows no signs of wear. I just wish it would stay connected better.

    Don't flinch

I loved the MagSafe L-shaped adapters. They were strong and unobtrusive. Why Apple chose to go back to the old T-shape AND make the magnet weaker is beyond me. So now the connector juts far out of the side of the laptop and awkwardly disconnects with the slightest movement. It disconnects if I shift the laptop (a current-gen 11" MacBook Air) in my lap. It disconnects if I pick up the laptop to move it. I gave this two stars, but was sorely tempted to give it one. It still charges the laptop when it does manage to stay connected, so in that sense it meets the minimum requirement for a power cable.

Go back to the L shape. Make the magnets strong again. Please. For my, and everyone else's, sanity.

Quite careful with my equipment. This one simply stopped working under no significant stress conditions. Quality control alert.

    Problems traveling

2 times this power adapter has stopped working while using it overseas. 1st time, adapter was plugged into 220v and stopped working. 2nd time I used a 220v step down converter to 110v and the replacement adapter stopped working. I absolutely love my macbook air, but not crazy about this adapter. The warrenty has covered a new power adapter both times. Thank you to apple support. Hopefully the 3rd adapter will be a charm.
