    Horrible Product

    • Written by from Galt

This charger stopped wiring after a few months. It became frayed, works sporadically, and it has even sparked a couple of times although it has been very well taken care of. Completely disappointed with Apple, as this charger has become basically a fire hazard.

    Don't Breathe...

    • Written by from Gilbert

The charger itself does what it suppose to do... as long as you can keep it from falling off. With the old MagSafe I could plug in my MBP move around as much as I wanted no problem. This one, if you breathe on it, it falls out. Very, very annoying. Apple really needs to use a stronger magnet.

Does anyone from Apple read these reviews?

I am a very careful user of equpment and my adapter frayed just about a half an inch from the magnetic connector. A little over one year of use--Very poor quality!!

    Broke After 2 Months, Terrible

    • Written by from Rio Rancho

In the past, I've had a MagSafe 1 charger that survived my cats chewing on it, switching ports, etc. because I didn't know how to handle it. Now, I have a MagSafe 2 charger for my MacBook Air 11-inch circa late 2013, and I put it away after using it immediately so no cats bite it and nothing hurts it. I'm extremely careful and use it as lightly as possible yet when I bought a new one (I've already gone through 3 of these chargers since December of 2013!) it broke after 2 months of said light use. This is a terrible product and had I known how much money I would spend on chargers for my Macbook Air, I wouldn't have bought it.

This adapter is terrible! Got broken in two parts even though I was really really careful with it. Not to mention that it would fall out of the laptop every 15 seconds. Terrible! I so much regret buying a mac book.

cable shield broke near the plug

    • Written by from Saint-Hubert

It is not my first power adapter and they all broke at the same place near the connector. I think it may be due to the heat close to the plug. that could temper the shield material and it become weaker. Usually it takes just a bit more than a year to see that it will break soon. Apple SHOULD really so something about this.

Apple needs to eliminate the SHAMEFUL MagSafe 2

    • Written by from Hanover

Whoever came up with this design should be fired immediately. The magnet is weak. It WILL NOT stay connected to the machine given the slightest agitation. This defeats the purpose of the MagSafe design: to remain firmly connected to the machine as the user requires, and self-disconnect only if a potentially damaging pull is applied to the cord. The MS2 connector WILL NOT remain connected. Furthermore, it is a 'T' connector which also defeats the purpose of a non-obtrusive power connector. This new connector is a bloody clumsy eyesore! Frankly, the MagSafe 2 is a frustrating piece of garbage. Apple should be ashamed of itself for allowing this substandard design. Apple should return to the superior 'L' connector design and incorporate a stronger magnet. SHAME!!

    Test before produce...?

    • Written by from Göteborg

The Magsafe 2 connection is terrible. Im a big fan of Magsafe love apple for their inovation but the magsafe 2 is not fun on my retina 13". It falls off al the time...its not due to weak magnet (try to pull it straight out) its to thin so it bends easier and then fall of... I know apple redesigned it just to be thinner but I'm pretty sure it is possible to do it as good as before and still even thinner... just bad design...terrible when you have the macbook in bed the charger cable snap out al the time... redesign so it not fall of without to change layout again.... Im pretty sure apple can do that...we don't want another adapter again...just better function

The cable seems to be better nowdays after 1.5 years it hasn't break... thanks for that at least...

The cable's skin broke under one year of just regular usage. The skin broke from both sides - The connector pin and the charger that plugs into the wall. I can't believe the cable to be of such low quality.

    Shanty adapter

    • Written by from Overland park

I understand that the point of the magnetic charger is supposed to be for easier removal, but I would much rather have a charger that actually stays put when I move around with my computer. I also really dislike how thin the wire covering is for the adapter; the casing for the wires ripped so easily (along with the wires), and now I have to buy an $80 replacement for a charger that will most likely rip again in the next few months. Please find a way to make a more durable power adapter. If you are going to charge us $80 for a replacement, at least make one that is worth the $80.

2nd charger in two years and I take extra care of my devices. Also maybe create something sturdy at the 'neck' of the charger so it doesnt fray after, I dont know, 2months of use.

Absolutely terrible design. The chord is very thin and weak. Mine broke so fast and I take really good care of my things. I had to buy another one and hope that it will last longer than half a year. Things like this make me want to switch to PCs. PATHETIC

    Whose idea was this?!? (CONTINUATION)

    • Written by from Missoula

    ...

    2) The "MagSafe 2," all in all, sticks about an inch and a half out from the side of the MacBook, meaning that, for instance, if you set it down next to a very small stack of papers, the thing gets bumped out, because the papers touched the CORD, and oh-no-no, you can't have that! Don't you know nothing should ever touch the power cord at all, ever, when you have a portable computer?!
SO, I wake up this morning to find that, where I sat my laptop on the couch, it sunk into the cushion the tiniest bit and the MagSafe 2 decided to give up and fall out. Imagine my frustration when I realized that I likely wouldn't have my MacBook powered on and ready for the meeting this morning because it sat without any charge all night.

Basically, this thing, while of a pretty different design altogether, is a regression back to the early 20-oughts' Powerbook charger (you know, the awful round one with the ring of light that told you it was charging; the one where the idea was that oh-maybe-I'll-use-an-entire-roll-of-duct-tape-trying-to-get-this-thing-to-stay-in-the-computer-and-a-whole-other-roll-trying-to-get-the-other-end-to-stay-in-the-wall-and-maybe-just-maybe-if-I-hope-reeeal-hard-it'll-charge-(maybe)?).

Apple, you can do better. Surely Steve Jobs wasn't the only person holding the company up. Try harder.

    Whose idea was this?!

    • Written by from Missoula

The MagSafe 2 is, I believe, proof that, in the last few years, the thought process behind the design and functionality of every product has become more and more incomplete.

Apple: "Let's upgrade the old Macbook charger!"
My response: Wonderful!! Although normal wear and tear has resulted in me going through four separate MagSafes within the span of my old Macbook's four-year lifespan, I loved the magnetic connection; it was strong enough to stay in the computer, for one. Also, it design meant it ran flush to the side of the computer, so it wasn't too easy to knock out, but it was removed easily when you went to detach it, or when perhaps the charger cord caught on something--rather than pulling the whole computer out of your hands/off your lap, the power cord simply disconnected. (This was, I think, one of the primary motives behind creating the MagSafe originally.) All in all, a wonderful design..... However, I am so excited to see what new ideas Apple can put together to create an even better product, one that is so essential when owning a laptop, and one for which the design really does make the hugest impact on one's experience with their MacBook.

Apple: "Here it is! The MagSafe 2!"
My response: Well. Wow. Should I have replaced my old MacBook with a Windows laptop after all? How am I ever going to keep this thing charged?! 1) The magnetic connection is almost nonexistent. Even if nothing bumps it, this thing falls out on its own half the time! (SEE CONTINUATION OF REVIEW)

    MagSafe 1 Please

    • Written by from Orlando

MagSafe 2 is the biggest piece of junk. It basically turns my MacBook Air, an actual laptop in the truest spirit, into something I absolutely can not use on my lap. I can not use it on my lap because the power cable is infuriatingly easy to pop free. I suppose I could close my legs a bit so that the laptop can rest a bit better and not have my thigh pop the magnetic connector free, but I'm a guy and that isn't always comfortable. Come on Apple, give us a low profile right angle connector like MagSafe 1. That way you can just leave the jack and reengineer the plug.
