3 months in, had shell of charger heating to 133 F

    • Written by from Dallas

One month in I noted my charger was very hot when charging my new MBA from 22%. battery.
Measured the outside temp of charger at 133F with a decent IR thermometer.
computer checked out at store and charger replaced under warrantee
Computer was charging properly and not overheating or with excess fan
New charger appears to not get anywhere near as warm, but will watch it

    ?!
Ths is not a good thing

making Applecare look like an even better bargain, which it shouldn't be.

    Horrible

    • Written by from Edmonton

This is the worst design ever, and so cheap looking and fell. I hated this design because they only do this with no right angle design which make it fall way easier than the one with the right angle design. the other adapter with the right angle design fits different sitting position and doesn't get loss as easy, also keep the write life longer because u don't have to bend it. it started to show wear and tear way early and for some reason doesn't seam to be good quality as Apple products use to be.

Frayed in less than a year!

    • Written by from Spencer

I am extremely careful with my laptop and all gadgets and did not expect an apple product to fall apart so soon. The cord is frayed near where it attaches to the adapter. I do not roll the cord around the adaptor precisely to avoid this from happening. I dont understand how apple can manufacture something so carelessly. This is a prime candidate for a product recall in the near future. Very unhappy that I have to shell another 80 bucks for this badly designed product. Shame on you, Apple!

    Awful design!!

    • Written by from London

I am so irritated by this bad design.
You cannot lie on your left side in bed (you could before the design change), and it falls out at the slightest touch or movement.
It's hard to believe something so badly designed came from Apple.
I tried to give it no stars but they won't let me!

No better than other Mac chargers

    • Written by from Awendaw

I have a MacBookPro and this is my second Macbook Air . The chargers just don't last more than a few months and they cost $79 plus tax to replace .What a rip off !

They also include the thick ,longer extension ,in the replacement ,even though it's the shorter ,narrow charger that has issues and needs to be replaced. Maybe if they sold it separately it wouldn't cost as much.

I've had to replace at least 5 Macbook chargers and multiple chargers for our iPads ,iPhones and iPods. Is it really that hard to come up with something that will last for awhile? My husband refuses to buy any more Apple products for just this reason.

The weakness seems to be in the first inch or two just off the magnetic connection to the computer .It tends to bend there and many of my chargers have split at that bend close to the computer . Not all the broken chargers showed a split. The wiring is weak .For awhile you can jiggle it around and get it to work ,but that doesn't last long.

Hard to argue with my husband when my Apple laptop charger has to be replaced every few months ,while his charger is the original he got with his laptop( not Apple) ,years ago.

    missing old design

    • Written by from Austin

I upgraded to a new Airbook this winter and hate the new power cord. I teach and am on-line a ton. I grade many nights from my chair (Airbook in my lap) and the cord disconnects far too easily. An annoyance at best. Bring back the old design.

I have now gone through two of these for my MacBook. They just wear out... No other explanation. This last one actually 'flamed out' causing a lot of smoke and nearly a fire.

    MacBook Air 45W charger

    • Written by from Atlanta

Ugh! Clunky to carry around, magnetic connection OK but definitely drops of easily. Bus MOST frustrating is the fact that the corner piece with the 2-prong outlet connection falls off all too easily, so easily that I lost it within a few days. Come on Apple, you can do better!

    Junk

I've had my MacBook for a little over a year now and for the last six months have had to constantly baby the adapter. I generally have to plug it in and out about six times and make sure it's in just the right position, wait, make sure it didn't come loose, then I can somewhat be confident that it will charge my laptop. The day finally came when the whole thing completely crapped out on me, so now I have to shell out $80 bucks to Apple for another one. Way to go Apple in making sure I keep buying your products! By the way, I do love Apple products, they are GREAT! I just don't want to be forced to buy them.

    So fancy, so faulty

    • Written by from Aylmer

I love the way this adapter looks, the way they handled the extension, etc.
I even love the material they used on the cable that just feels like good quality.

What I don't love is that this material splits. My cable has exposed wires for about an inch near the macbook side of the plug. While the adapter still charges my Air, the black electrical tape holding it together is awful.

Is this really made from Apple?

    • Written by from Camas

I've owned myriad numbers of Apple products-- from the old G4 box, to the original iPod to the iPhone 5, to the Macbook Pro and now the Macbook Air, and I cannot believe Apple still backs this product. My Air and the MagSafe 2 charger goes everywhere with me and most of the time, the laptop is on my lap. The slightest movement causes the charger to fall off, and does not align with the Apple reputation that I have known and trusted. I was a lot happier with my previous MagSafe 1 charger-- this was such a disappointment from me coming from such a loyal Apple customer.

This charger is awful. Mine broke after only using it for about 3 months. Not only does it break super easily but if it is working I cant move my macbook air with out the charger faling out. I love macs but this charger is awful. My mothers old Windows Vista laptop has a great charger. It extends far and plugs in and stays in really easily.

    Very fragile cord

    • Written by from Spring Hill

I've had mine for just under a year, and the thin cord coming out of the transformer block is coming apart. The inner wiring is partially exposed, and I have to position the brick very carefully to get current to flow. I was warned by other Mac users to be very gentle when winding the cord, which I have, but it still has worn out.

I have a call scheduled w/ Apple care to see if it can be replaced.

    Awful Design

    • Written by from CHELMSFORD

This is awfully designed. I get that the whole point of magsafe is that it's meant to fall out if it's pulled to stop the laptop from being damaged but this falls out way too easy. You actually can't move your laptop without it falling out - it's dreadful and really lets down what it an amazing piece of hardware in the macbook air.
