Continuously falls out. There is nothing worse than leaving the house in the morning to find out that my laptop has not been charging through the night. Terrible design.

    MagSafe 2

    • Written by from San Anselmo

I own three MBA's and one of the features I have always liked is the MagSafe 1 connection on the power supply.

I do not like the MagSafe 2 adapter on my newest MBA ... as others have said it falls out. Ironically the best solution is to get the old power supply and get the 10 dollar adapter and it stays in the new MBA much better than the power supply that came with the computer with the new MagSafe 2 connection.

Apple took something that worked very very well and made something that creates the most frustration for an otherwise elegant product. I would image the MagSafe 2 team are rapidly figuring out how to fix this if they still have their jobs...

    Fall outs too easily

    • Written by from Lansdale

As many other reviews have mentioned, the new design of the MagSafe adapter makes the part that connects to the laptop fall out really easily. I often use my Macbook Air in my lap and the slightest movement of my legs when I shift around will disconnect the adapter. This is partly because the magnet is not strong enough, but also because the thinner connector now sticks out a lot horizontally, so it is easily disconnected by an upward or downward (but not outward) force. This never happened with my old Macbook Air and the old MagSafe adapter, and it's a huge annoyance for someone who often uses their laptop in their lap cross-legged like I do.

I've bought my MBA in the morning charge it once and in the evening time it stoped working. Just break. Apple should better look on the quality of their products.

Apple, what's wrong with your common sense? Why replace a working solution with non-working and almost unusable? Can't make the charger stay connected. For the premium price I'm paying to you I expect premium quality. I expect a recall.

    No Problems

    • Written by from Athens

Well both these reviews are right in their own ways. The charger is great for what it is designed to do. However you have to provide it a little more consideration than some other cords. I have broken 2 by my own fault as one I twisted too tight around the built in holder and the other my 8 year old autistic son broke after 6 months of hard use. Look apple can't be blamed for moves like that. In fact the genius bar would have replaced the first one under warranty but I don't play that way. So for my money the product is fine, and I'll put my 15 bucks a month away and replace the charger if I need too, I waste more money than that on coffee.

    Very Great and Durable Product

    • Written by from Leesburg

I am not sure Daniela is talking about. I've been using the same power adapter for the 4 years I have had my laptop without incident. Sure, $79.00 is a bit steap for a replacement, but t will not break from normal use (I am still using the one that came in the box with my laptop). As long as you are not a child, dog, or Daniela and know how to properly handle things there should be no problems. Great Product!

Apple needs to eliminate the SHAMEFUL MagSafe 2

    • Written by from Hanover

Whoever came up with this design should be fired immediately. The magnet is weak. It WILL NOT stay connected to the machine given the slightest agitation. This defeats the purpose of the MagSafe design: to remain firmly connected to the machine as the user requires, and self-disconnect only if a potentially damaging pull is applied to the cord. The MS2 connector WILL NOT remain connected. Furthermore, it is a 'T' connector which also defeats the purpose of a non-obtrusive power connector. This new connector is a bloody clumsy eyesore! Frankly, the MagSafe 2 is a frustrating piece of garbage. Apple should be ashamed of itself for allowing this substandard design. Apple should return to the superior 'L' connector design and incorporate a stronger magnet. SHAME!!

    Extremely annoying

    • Written by from New York

I just got my first MacBook Air and I really hate the power cord. It is almost impossible to use the laptop while it is charing because if the cord (or anything) moves the slightest bit, it pops right out. This thing must have the tiniest magnet on earth. I like the computer otherwise so far, but am toying with returning it because of this annoyance and based on the other reviews which caution it may stop working altogether.

My power adapter lasted for less than a year and a half. I'm absurdly careful with my laptop and adapter. Seemingly out of nowhere the wiring starting to fall apart at the base - where it connects with the adapter. Now it won't work at all. Why does this cost $80 to replace? My old Macbook adapter, which is some six years old, still works! And I didn't take particular care of it. Apple should offer a free replacement of this 45 W adapter. The vast majority of reviews here are negative and many people, like me, did not misuse the product. Apple clearly designed a poor product and should fix it. I, for one, will not be shopping at Apple in the future.

If I could give it zero stars I would.

    • Written by from Northbrook

First off, the end of the cable attached to the base of the charger is so flimsy that I had to tape it because the protective plastic around the wires bent and split open after I wrapped my cord up for storage. The charger base slips out of outlets and it has made loud disruptions when I am studying in a quiet atmosphere. The magnet end that attaches to the compter is cool but the detachable piece on the charger with the 2 prongs on it slides off a lot. Lastly, this price is freaking ridiculous, i'm a college student, my monthly living budget for necessities is even less than $79.......please Apple, design a better charger, I have a 2012 Macbook Air, and I love it, but this charger is killing me.

Why can't apple make a descent charger?

    • Written by from Leiden

Why can't apple design an adapter that does not break every year?

Last week my adapter for my Macbook Air broke. This is not the first adapter that have stopped working in my company. In fact we have 10 MacBooks and of those 10 MacBooks 8 adapters have failed within the first two years. All of them with the same reason. A break in the cable between the power adapter and the macbook.

While a thin cable may look fine it simply cannot handle real world usage. And if the adapter cable breaks after the first year Apple simply refuses to replace the adapter and expect customers to buy a "replacement part". This "replacement part" is actually nothing more than a new adapter and priced exactly the same.

One would expect that a billion dollar company would be capable to design a power adapter that actually works well. Instead Apple created a bad product and forces customers to pay large amounts of money (yes, 79 US$ is a lot for a charger) Unfortunately, even the highly skilled employees lack the skill to understand the real-life wear and tear of a cable connected to a power adapter.

    Worst adapter design ever.

Recall this and do something alternative. Hate this. I want to buy a macbook pro retina display but i wont until apple changes this stupid design

New design is a step backward

    • Written by from AUSTIN

I just bought my wife an MBA after loving my own - and it now comes with a new magnetic design that is always falling out. My older design does not. The new design sticking straight out is a big step backwards and very disappointing. I'm not sure why on earth they made it so much worse.

    Problems traveling

    • Written by from Pelham

2 times this power adapter has stopped working while using it overseas. 1st time, adapter was plugged into 220v and stopped working. 2nd time I used a 220v step down converter to 110v and the replacement adapter stopped working. I absolutely love my macbook air, but not crazy about this adapter. The warrenty has covered a new power adapter both times. Thank you to apple support. Hopefully the 3rd adapter will be a charm.

    Broken Already!!!

    • Written by from Carlsbad

After a year and a half of gentle use, my MagSafe 2 adapter has already stopped working! What has been happening to Apple lately? The reason we all pay more money for Apple stuff is because it works, and now Apple products aren't really working that well anymore, not good. I still love me my Apple devices but this is a serious let down.

    Cord Frays

    I concur!

    • Written by from Rancho Cordova

I shifted in my seat (no tension on the cord) and the connector fell out. Bad magnets? I also agree that the older "slim" style of connector plug was much less likely to get in the way of things.

    How about a RECALL!!!??
    Fix it up!

    someone slap the designer

    • Written by from London

i've just upgraded my 2010 air (had a barrel mag power connector that worked perfectly) with a 2013 air, which has replaced the perfect design of the old connector with this truly rubbish design. it's no longer possible to work with the laptop between your legs, as the sticking out T design means the power cord will be knocked off if you do so. also don't move the computer when it's plugged in or you'll probably find it just falls out anyway.

what were apple thinking of? why abandon a perfectly good design for something that does not actually work properly?

what next? will next years macbook air perhaps in a similar move, abandon SSD disks and go back to a mechanical disc, duct-taped to the bottom of the laptop?
