I am new to the Mac industry, so I'm not up on all the latest and greatest devices for the Mac. Recently I purchased an Apple USB SuperDrive. It's a top-of-the-line product. I put in a CD DVD and it automatically imports. The Apple USB SuperDrive is a remarkable product thank you!

Wow! Love this product...works well with my MBAir! Response time is unbelievable. I enjoy the sleek and small laptop...hence the option of an external DVD drive. It's nice to have only when needed.

I have a MacBook Pro and you have to have one of these things because the new model MacBook is too thin to have one internally. Personally I could do with a computer that's a little bit thicker, but this thing isn't that expensive and in my experience works well. I've not burned any disks but have used the drive to install software and watch DVDs. Works fine for these two purposes.

All of the bad reviews don't state which version/model year/cpu of MB their using..To trash this drive before telling us is just poor reviewing..All the newer macs with retina work flawlessly with this drive..To write all these complaints and not telling us is a waste of everybodys time and causes a lot of confusion when deciding on a purchase..

I dont know what all the complaints are about??

This product is decently priced according to Apple's standards, and it does EVERYTHING it says it will do without any headache. Plug and play. No software required no drivers no headache just read write burn CD/DVD and even Dual Layer without a problem. Just bought one to go along with my 13" Macbook Pro w/ Retina and I am one happy man. Sure maybe Blu-ray would have been good but its not necessary I dont even own a Blu ray disc even though I own a blu ray player.....People complain and give low ratings because of UNREALISTICALLY high expectations and the fact that they want Apple products but wanna pay Samsung prices.

Bought this drive to go along with the Mac Mini and I have to say it works perfectly! i was a bit skeptical at first when reading through some of the other reviews but after going forward with the purchase it was definitely a great buy! Solid, very compact, and easy setup! (just connect and your done) I have tested this with CD and DVD discs which it played both perfectly! Would definitely recommend this for any MAC without a built-in optical disc drive!

Best match for the late 2012 iMac

After first installing (plugging in the USB) it din't do anything and would not accept a CD. So I unplugged and reinserted again - this time it took and I heard the little drive come to life. Make sure the USB is firmly inserted.

Thereafter I burned my first CD. Opened up iTunes, created a New Playlist, selected Burn to Disc and then printed a jewel case that's pretty cool without having to do anything other than select Print/To Jewel Case or something like that.

Just insert a CD and iTunes opens and asks if you want to add to the Library. What could be easier?

The product is aluminum on it's upper side and plastic underneath. It has a large round non-skid pad that works perfect on the foot of the iMac. You push the CD in almost all the way and then it inserts it super fast automatically. Eject using several different ways from the screen.

    Meets all of my needs.

Small, light, solidly built and works like a champ. My 2013 15" MacBook Pro with Retina display needed an optical drive, and this fits the bill perfectly! A good value as well!

This device gets such a bad rap, it works in a particular way and works well once you get a feel for it.

It is just like the 8x Superdrive in the non-retnia MBP, which is why I purchased it for my MBPr. I had a few growing pains with this maybe the first 2-3 uses, BUT I got it down and I feel like it is a quality product to pair with my MBPr.

I bought this with my new Mac Mini since I still burn and use CD/DVDs. It's quick, quiet and fast. Not a bad value, actually. Nice metal enclosure to match my Mini.

Most of These "Reviews" Have Problems

    • Written by from Swan River

Excepting those who legitimately had a defective superdrive, many of the reviews here are very inaccurate, misinformed, and misleading to prospective customers. In my research as someone who was changing from a PC to the newest iMac, I found many of these reviews incredibly frustrating. The best review I read that had great advice and common sense was this one:

(QUOTE) - The drive works perfectly as described.
My response to others are as follows:

    1) It is a DVD drive, not a Blue Ray drive. No DVD players can play Blue Ray, though Blue Ray can play both. The reason that Apple does not have a Blue Ray option is due to rights ownership. Don't blame Apple, blame Sony.

    2) Ejecting a CD/DVD on a MAC is different than on a Windows box. Try clicking the eject button on your top bar in OSX, if it is not there, right click on the drive's icon on your desktop and then click on "Eject". Don't blame Apple for your lack of understanding on how to use their products.
    (UNQUOTE)

Be informed before giving a review that will mislead others. I plugged this in, ripped my cds like crazy (quiet AND fast!) and it's been fantastic. I have it sitting FLAT on the 'foot' of my iMac where it coordinates perfectly. I use the eject button on the top right of my Apple wireless keyboard, though you can also do it on screen.

I have absolutely no complaints about this product, but I definitely do have complaints about some of the reviews. Accuracy is important when doing a review. Thank=you.

I have Just purchased this drive for my very first iMac. Plugged it in, stuck in a blank dvd and stuck some pictures on it just to test it out. No software updating and the eject button on my keyboard worked as it should.
Very happy camper and it looks nice stat on my desk too.

I just purchased this and brought it home a few days ago. Plugged it in and it worked flawlessly on my Mid-2012 11 inch MacBook Air. Burns fast and reliably. Love the design as matches the aesthetics of my computer and is ultra portable. Only thing I would change would be a price drop to about 50. Then it would be a no brainier accessory. But I highly recommend this exquisite piece of technology.

    Looks great and more

This is a small list of what was important to me when choosing Apple's superdrive:
    1) It's very quiet at times, I didn't know it was operating.
    2) IT looks great and it matches the aluminum used on the iMac.
    3) The unit is about as small as it can possibly be - but if you are like me, you'd rather not have the superdrive on your desk because it is so rarely used. Very easy to store and it doesn't take up much space.
    4) Like any product these days - there will be people complaining about perfection, as for me and when I make a choice about a product, it needs to look great and match my furniture (in this case, a computer) perform very well and there must be value for the money I'm spending.
So, this product and like any mac product is the best fit for me.

    What's with all the hate?

This is a superdrive.... It works great! Those of you giving bad reviews because it doesn't do blu-ray need to quit posting reviews. It doesn't say anything in the description about blu-ray anywhere so if you bought it expecting blu-ray that's your own fault. If you ordered one and got a dud then send it back or take it into an apple store and exchange it. Apple will be more than happy to take a drive back that malfunctioned within the warranty period. People and their silver spoons.... it's a $79 superdrive! Should Apple name it
"Non-BluRay Superdrive That Might Malfunction But We're Willing to Exchange it For You If that's the Case & Should Any Other Issues Arise That Might Not Be Listed in the Description You Can Call Us & We'll Gladly Answer Any Questions You May Have."?
I think that title is a little ridiculous just like your reviews. I bought it... came in.... worked great... exactly what I expected because I've owned Macs for ages and because I am smart and read the description of what I'm buying.
