    Ejecting is terrible

    • Written by from South Bend

Overall, this DVD drive works. However, the eject button works maybe once every five times. I find myself having to hold it upside down and press to get the DVD to come out. There needs to be some sort of button on the side.

    it looks nice
    perfect shape
    perfect speed
    perfect weight
    BUT :
you better make the whole cable get disconnect from it ,you know a side of the cable is just attached to the super drive and when you are handing it or packing it in your bag the attached part will get wasted.put a nice small cable but not attached to drive.

    Works Perfect

I had it for a little over a year and no flaws. When i see all these negative reviews people must be doing something wrong. Those complaining about no reject button hello the reject button is on the top far right.

    Eject button

    • Written by from Lake Elmo

Please Apple ... your insistence on making everything so easy to use, is actually maling them harder to use. A simple eject button would cost a nickel and save countless hours of searching for the onscreen eject button that always seem elusive.

    Elegant and easy to use

    • Written by from Ottawa

Although I think Apple's race to eliminate optical drives from even its desktop computers in the pursuit of slimness is a bit excessive and also premature, I've had only good results with this drive. I use it with my iMac and my Retina MacBook Pro with absolutely no issues. It plays and burns DVDs without complaint, working exactly as expected after nearly one year of use. The aluminum enclosure is solid and I find the slot-loading mechanism to be reliable. In contrast, the Samsung Blu-Ray drive I also use is plastic and somewhat flakey in its behaviour.

    Std USB

    • Written by from Mont Saint-Hilaire

Nice product, looking good and works nicely. It is a bit deceptive that this writer comes with std USB instead of a USB3 connexion. I had to add this drive to my new iMac and since I have USB3 connexions, I thought that Apple could have come at least with this type of connexion for the drive.

Perfect DVD Drive for MacBook Pro Users

    • Written by from Pittsburgh

I purchased this drive apprehensively because of all of the bad reviews. But I was not disappointed. I think there are many inaccurate reviews of this drive which have driven down the overall rating for this product. It works exactly as described and I am using it to rip DVDs so I can watch them on an iPad and iPhone. Works perfectly and is faster than I expected. I can rip a DVD movie in about 20-30 minutes depending on the length of the movie. Overall, I would highly recommend this drive.

Not as good as it should be

    • Written by from Honley, Holmfirth

This drive copes well with most demands made of it UNTIL that is you get a recorded CD that is at the maximum end of capacity. Out of a 14 disc box set I wanted to transfer to iTunes (Apple Lossless) it stumbled on 4. The outermost 2 or 3 tracks on each of them slipped and did not transfer correctly despite supposed error correction on import. The solution was to copy the affected tracks to the desktop then drag into iTunes. How come it managed to read the disc ok copying to the desktop but it made errors when copying directly into iTunes? Having lost faith with this drive's ability I replaced it with a blu-ray reader/writer instead - problem sorted.

    Remarkable product

    • Written by from Tecumseh

I am new to the Mac industry, so I'm not up on all the latest and greatest devices for the Mac. Recently I purchased an Apple USB SuperDrive. It's a top-of-the-line product. I put in a CD DVD and it automatically imports. The Apple USB SuperDrive is a remarkable product thank you!

    Review

    • Written by from Ottawa

Windows support is kind of crummy. Since there's no eject button, you need to be viewing the desktop/a few other places to take out a disc. It also lacks pinhole eject so it needs to be plugged in to eject.

At least it's extremely small and light.

Worked for a few months, then dead

    • Written by from Gilbert

I got this drive a few months ago and it was working fine. Not quite as fast as others out there, definitely more expensive. I used it for roughly 2-3 discs per week, CD and DVD's mixed. Then all of a sudden it completely died on me. Won't accept a disc. I read this issue on other review and though it wouldn't be an issue, well I was wrong. I'm hoping it will get replaced by apple since I haven't had it that long. But that being said, you expect a product, especially an overpriced Apple product, to work longer than 3 months without issue. I wish I would have bought a different brand...

Perfect addition for the MacBook Pro

    • Written by from Philadelphia

Just got a new MacBook. The only problem was not having a CD drive built in. However the Super Drive solves that problem very well. Currently using to add music to ITunes and it works perfectly. I would definitely recommend this drive for anyone who needs an external drive.

    Works as advertised

    • Written by from Knoxville

I cannot speak, of course, to the longevity of the drive because mine is fairly new. However, the intuitive nature of this drive as it conforms its actions to the values of the disk you have inserted is exactly what I was looking for. Play a movie; no problem. Burn a CD; no problem. Transfer files; no problem. Insert disk. Follow natural course of action. Eject disk. If you are familiar with the Mac world, this is a great drive. Hope it stands test of time, too. (The learning curve for former Windows devotees is same as learning curve for Mac itself; that is, top menus and such. No magic; just solid solution to your drive needs.)

    Does it's job...but...

    • Written by from Livingston

BE CAREFUL! If you are watching a movie on DVD and using the SuperDrive, watch out. If you are like me and enjoy laying in bed, the short usb cord can hang. It works fine, even when dangling, but BOOM, one false move and the SDrive can smash into your beautiful Retina screen and break it. Worst feeling. I wish Mac's would get on the Blu-Ray train as well. I love my movies as well as my HD, iTunes downloads look great, streaming Netflix or Cable pretty good, and DVD's passable, but man I would love a SDrive that played Blu Rays. Again, watch out... the SDrive is durable, but it can break your laptop if you are not careful

    • Written by from Portland

I've recently purchased the drive and have listened to around 60+ CDs from store quality to backups made. From the reviews I was expecting problems, but I have not had one problem with any of the CDs. All were readable. I'm impressed at the speed while importing to make backups.

I bought this drive for late 2012 iMac. I brought it home and connected it to download some CDs I wanted on my iTunes account. No problems here! I was able to eject each CD without any drama or problems. Fast enough for my iMac. Great product.

    It works

    • Written by from Winona

I was hesitant to buy based on the mediocre/negative reviews, but I figured an Apple product would work better than any other, so I bought it. Plugged the device in, sent it a playlist from iTunes and the disc burned in about three minutes, no problems - exactly as it does on all of my Macs with internal optical drives. My only complaint would be that the USB cable is only long enough to have the drive directly under the iMac.
