USB super drive does not write with my Mac mini

I bought the USB super drive to use with my Mac mini - it plays DVDs alright but does not write to DVD R DL or non DL either. I took it back to the store and replaced immediately. Second one does not write either saying in does not recognize disc or disc is empty. I guess it's simply not compatible with the Mac mini?.

Purchased one today to use with the 15" MBP Retina display I purchased yesterday. I used it to install Office for Mac 2011 and CS5 Design Premium. It worked quickly and flawlessly. Frankly, I am not sure why so many people have issues with this optical drive. Only 4 stars as the design is adequate but not breathtaking.

I bought this external drive with the intention of being able to watch DVDs. How thoroughly disappointed was I to find out that it is not compatible with BluRay. Really??? Come on, Apple. You've got to realize that most people buying your products purchase BluRay. Make your SuperDrive work with BluRay discs!

Very poor quality! Frequently fails to mount CDs, fails to read DVDs, not compatible with Blue Ray. Sorry Apple - your reputation is failing!

    Not Good For Apple

It seems to spit out about 50% to 60% of the DVDs and CDs. Some of the discs were brand new and the others were close to perfect. I bought a different, cheaper drive and haven't had a problem.

DVD does not = Blue Ray

The drive works perfectly as described.
My response to others are as follows:

    1) It is a DVD drive, not a Blue Ray drive. No DVD players can play Blue Ray, though Blue Ray can play both. The reason that Apple does not have a Blue Ray option is due to rights ownership. Don't blame Apple, blame Sony.

    2) Ejecting a CD/DVD on a MAC is different than on a Windows box. Try clicking the eject button on your top bar in OSX, if it is not there, right click on the drive's icon on your desktop and then click on "Eject". Don't blame Apple for your lack of understanding on how to use their products.

Slow even with the fastest, most expensive Retina Display computer. CDs get stuck and none of the tech help remedies work. Turning it upside-down and shaking it is the only way to get the CDs out.

DVD Not so Super - NOT able to play BLU RAY

What's "super" about a DVD player that doesn't play Blu Ray disks? It is almost 2013. The screens on Apple laptops are capable of better resolution than the so-called super drive? Seriously. Apple should at least say "Does Not Play Blu Ray" rather than duping customers. Bad apple.

I just bought the 15" pro with retina display, so I needed a disc drive to go with it. I got the super drive because it's slim. I've only had it for about three weeks now and I can't eject discs. I have to hold the disc drive vertically to eject a disc so gravity can help the disc come out.

I was really skeptical about getting this after reading the negative reviews, but I needed it, so I went and purchased it today to install Parallels and Windows 8 on my rMBP.

The installation went without a hitch, and it's not as slow as a lot people who reviewed the SD said it was.

I'm glad I went with this despite the negative reviews.

This external optical drive is incredibly slow (connected to my MBP Retina). It takes 15-30 min to transfer the data of 1 CD into iTunes. This is unacceptable!

I used the optical drive to install VMWare, Windows and Office when I first bought my Retina machine. Had to REINSTALL the same software and that's when my drive buggered. Wouldn't accept any CD/DVD media. I try to insert the media, but the drive does not pull it in. Total piece of junk.

I bought the USB Superdrive with my MBA in 2011. I used it to install four different software programs. When I went to use it a week ago, it wouldn't accept any discs - the drive mechanism was failing. So for $80, I was able to load FOUR discs. I took it to the Apple Store and they offered to give me a refurb for $60+. This drive is a piece of junk, but since you have a machine w/o a drive, you have no choice. Good luck with this purchase.

    MacAir perspective

I have a Mac Air and this burner is absolutely perfect for the Air. I bought the air for size, weight travel advantages and knowing that if needed I have the burn capability with me without the size, weight, etc... makes it a great 1-2 punch. The attached cable is so simple. For me it was the deal breaker in terms of being able to justify the total package of the MacAir.

This device has several limitations, such as when i need to burn a long length of movie, the video couldn't completely capture and display in the DVD player. I''d used it for less than 50 times, and now it become faulty. Its the most incredible part.
