    A waste of time

    • Written by from Orlando

What a waste of money, of my time and your time, Apple.

Stop wasting money, and cutting corners and actually make the macbook pro chargers durable, and worth the price.
Sorry, it's a critical thing to say, but if you want great ratings with returning and new customers that can recommend your product, then make your accessories better.
This seriously does not deserve a blue star. I wish I could give this 5 gray stars with this review.

I hope you make your accessories better.

The other reviews are correct. The magnet/connection to the MBP is far too weak and is unusable is any situation where the laptop will be moved during charging. How this passed QC in design is worrisome.

At least mine has yet to burn up.

I needed to purchase 2 more to have at multiple locations and I have no choice but to purchase a defective product because there is no alternative. After all these horror stories I guess I will have to wait.

Connector started sparking and melted the plastic

    • Written by from Hudson

This adapter lacks quality, and is extremely expensive. The wire is frail, and the wall connector piece is susceptible to sparking and melting. It's a fire hazard.

    BREAKS. Mine just croaked.

    • Written by from Highlands Ranch

I really wish Apple would create a power adapter that wouldn't break. I've had this computer for less than two years, and the fact that I'm having to replace the power adapter because the tiny cord connection to the brick BROKE and started sparking is ridiculous...we pay a premium for Apple products, but the fact that I'm having to replace a $79 adapter is a little irritating. Please reinforce this connection...you KNOW this is a problem.

    Overpriced and shoddy

    • Written by from Frankfort

My second adapter just fell apart. For a company that prides itself on making quality products, this outrageously priced and poorly made adapter is garbage. The shell is designed in such a way that it cannot be unassembled without destroying it. If a user could at least take it apart, they could conceivably replace just the wire when it inevitably falls apart from normal use. Instead, it just needs to be discarded and replaced.

    Worst Power Supply Ever!!

    • Written by from Farwell

I have been a loyal Apple customer for years. I just "upgraded" from a 2011 MacBook Pro to a mid 2013 MacBook Air. The power cord that came with the Pro was great! I had the laptop since it was brand new in 2011 and had absolutely no problems with it. I have had my Air for 2 weeks and already see signs of wear at the power block where the small wire attaches. Also due to the design of the magnetic plug, I can no longer use the laptop on my lap or while laying in bed using the charger without frequent power disconnects.. I don't know if I would buy another Mac if they don't do something about this POOR design. I would rate at 0 stars if I could, Apple should be ashamed of themselves for letting this charger out on the market...

The charger tore itself to shreds just from being used. Began to smoke once the wires started to become exposed.

I SIT with my computer- I don't WALK with it

    • Written by from Brooklyn

Horrible design. I spit out my coffee laughing when they describe this cable as fray resistant. My cord has a 4" split to bare metal. For a company that prides itself on product design this is an epic fail. I could have bought an ipad with the amount of money I have spent on broken chargers since Apple made their design proprietary. How about giving us a charger that doesn't disconnect easily? Because I have never tripped over mine as I SIT with my computer- I don't WALK with it. Yes, T-design is worse than the old design. Guess what Apple, customers actually lie in bed and read on their computers, customers sit cross legged with your computers, kinda hard to charge them with this design.

    Worst charger ever

    • Written by from Glenelg

Last only a year. 600 dollars Sony PC 2007 model still working and no issue with charger. 2500 dollars Mac book start giving me problem with track pad within 3 months. Hinge loosen within 6 months. Charger cable is the worst, very low quality. Last only a year... I choose Mac over Razor PC. First and last time buying Mac book.

Won't buy over price low quality made in china product again.

    poor magnet

    • Written by from dallas

I have had all of the charger designs--the original t-shape for my first macbook, the L-shape for my macbook pro, and now the new T shape for the macbook with retina display. I wish I could go back to either of the first 2, but the shape isn't the same. This charger pops off of the computer if you even THINK about touching it. Brush it against anything and it's out. VERY irritating. I definitely didn't expect a downgrade when I spent over $1000 on a new laptop.

MagSafe 2 outlasted by MagSafe 1 by 3 years and counting, why?

    • Written by from Cumming

I have had my Macbook Pro Retina for a little more than a year. Today I noticed the cable split and some of the wiring had frayed where it connects to the white block. It still works but wondering for how much longer. Why would my Macbook Pro 13 with MagSafe 1, now used and abused by my wife and son, still work and have no sign of tear or wear? Extremely disappointed in the quality of this power adapter.

Flawed Design, Melting Casing, Fire Hazard

    • Written by from Bullhead City

I am now buying my 3rd charger for my macbook pro because of the flawed design. The wire frays and becomes incredibly hot to the point of melting the casing with wisps of smoke coming from it. That is a serious fire hazard. What is it going to take before apple changes the design??? Someone to die in their own house fire because the cord started burning? It happens suddenly and without warning. As soon as it happens I have about a day in which to order a replacement before it dies completely and I am stuck with a dead computer with no way to power it. the cord frays and melts from the smaller wire at the connection to the brick. This happens every time. Something really should be done about this charger because I have now spent $240 on power cords for my computer. The cords should last as long as the computer does!

    No Alternatives

    • Written by from Seattle

This product may be a fire hazard. There are two points of failure in the cable which will initially yellow, then warp and split exposing wire. I'm on my 2nd charger now, which Apple is replacing. Hopefully this new charger won't have this issue.

My charger cable came apart right where the small cable begins. Based on numerous other reviews, this is a common occurrence. I paid nearly $4k for the computer, you'd think the cable could hold up to light daily use. Thanks APPLE!

Would give it no stars if possible.

Many others have given this product a 1 star rating and the ratio of bad ratings is about 50 to 1 to the bad. It's clearly a design issue shared by some other Mac products that 'looks nice, does not work well or is not ergonomic but looks like it should be'. If the connector lay alongside the Mac case it might be less subject to constantly falling off or being disconnected at the slightest touch... i.e. with pant leg when you use the mac as a LAPTOP vs. desktop computer. I HOPE, but don't expect, that when this problem is fixed, I'll be notified and can get the updated working model.

TERRIBLE design. Failed almost immediately, failing again.

    • Written by from Rutland

I am supremely disappointed in the MagSafe 2 charger for several reasons.

-My first MacBook Pro Retina's MagSafe 2 failed after 2 (TWO!) months of intermittent use. Burned/stuck pins. Six weeks after I replaced it via the apple store, the new one is failing and shows signs of the same problem.

-It is nearly impossible to get the thing to stay attached. Sitting with the laptop on my, well, lap top, my battery is at 2% right now and I have now adjusted the charger four times during the writing of this to get it to keep charging.

This is frustrating because I experienced a similar problem with my original MBP and its white plastic, first generation MagSafe. As an industrial design student, I was pleased to see that Apple resolved the disconnection issue by the simple fix of the 90 degree aluminum plug. This worked because it shifted the levering force of the cord to pull the plug against the sides of the recess, rather than pry the steel plug directly off the magnet.

-There was no genuine need to change the format of the plug from MagSafe 1, although this did ironically happen around the same time all older Iphone/pod chargers became obsolescent.

It seems that style has interrupted proven design on this one. I would expect much better from a $2000 laptop.

    • Written by from Menlo Park

The magnet is so weak, I'm tempted to glue it in place.

MagSafe 2 has been "improved" so that I can no longer use my laptop on my lap or bed without regular disconnections. Nice work, Apple...

MagSafe 2 is the the worst design I have ever witnessed!

    • Written by from Raleigh

I just purchased my very first MacBook Pro, switching from a PC and I am very pleased with it. Except for the power cord. The MagSafe 2 cannot be used on your lap - where I do 90% of my work. It becomes unplugged, constantly. The first two hours of use the power became unplugged about a dozen times. Why would Mac do this?!? It is unbelievably frustrating! Even if it doesn't become completely unplugged, the slightest touch moved the connection so there is a loss of power. Never in my life have I seen such an awful design!

Have you ever tried to remove the AC cord from the adapter once it's installed? Unless the unit I got is a bad copy, otherwise I don't think it is an easy thing to do for anyone.
