Terrible design with even worse build quality

    • Written by from Bradenton

COME ON APPLE!!! You are better than this. Is not comfortable to have computer plugging and use it in your lap. Your legs will constantly unplug the power supply. How does one create such an amazing machine as the MBP with Retina and totally miss the mark on the power adapter? Create one with the durability to last and the ability to use in your LAP, which is the point of a notebook is it not?

Idea: finish, patent, and release, wireless charging....PLEASE!!!!!

Do NOT like this retrograde step

    • Written by from Walnut

Why did Apple go back to the old 'T' design it ditched years ago? Why is that now regarded as better when before it was regarded as worse? What is going on at Apple?

I love my new Macbook Pro Retina, but I really don't like this ugly, impractical new power connector. I hope they ditch it soon and we can get (what is now) the old style 'L' connector back,

Not what I'd expect from an Apple product

    • Written by from Brooklyn

This item makes me doubt whether Apple still makes quality products. It broke less than a year after purchase, mind you I was using my laptop casually so there shouldn't have been problems with it overheating or anything. Additionally, the replacement cost is a whopping $80 dollars which wouldn't be such a big deal if the charger was actually worth the money. The magnetic tip keeps popping out at even the most subtle movements and becomes a nuisance at times. After paying over 2000 for my retina MacBook Pro I was expecting the accessories to go with it to work as smoothly as the laptop itself, but boy was I wrong. I will have to think twice before buying an Apple laptop again in the future.

    Worst Adapter ever

    • Written by from Berlin

After not even one year my charger frayed and is not working anymore. If it was cheaper - okay but 80€ I expect more.
Also, the magnet is not strong enough. What was wrong with the old one? Get your stuff together please..

Flawed design. Bring back the L shaped connector

    • Written by from Broomfield

I agree with all the negative reviews about the bad design. The point of a laptop is to well... use it in your lap and this adapter's design is very bad for that use. It gets disconnected very easily and compared to this the L shaped one was a no-brainer to use. Apple should atleast provide an alternate version with the L shape. I hope they will look at all these reviews and provide some alternative. Please please apple... I beg you

    This adapter is majorly flawed.

    • Written by from Wheaton

I've had a couple of major issues with this adapter. Yes, it unplugs constantly, and it IS annoying. But my biggest issue is with the thinness/cheapness of the cord. I travel around with my rMBP quite a lot (work, school, home), and this cord does not withstand heavy travel well. In fact, I'll be replacing it for the second time tomorrow because the cord has a tendency to break where it meets the adapter... especially if you wind it around the clips like Apple recommends. I seriously wish they'd have tested this cord a bit more extensively. Minimalism only works when it, well, works.

Might aswell personally hand tim cook 100 dollars every 4 months

    • Written by from Hellerup

Without a doubt the worst power adapter since the dawn of computers. I've spent a total of 300+ USD ONLY on these 'adapters', which keep breaking. This is completely unacceptable when you buy a state-of-the-art laptop for over I feel ashamed even giving it one star. For the third time within the course of a year, the rubber around one of the joints on the adapter has simply been torn and worn. It even managed to start smoking at one point. Very useful for a camping trip, but I didn't pay for a bonfire starter, so not very impressive.I hope Apple releases a new and more durable power adapter.

    SOOO unhappy

    • Written by from Rocky Point

Literally the worst charger. My first one fell apart and frayed in less than a year. Someone at the apple store felt bad and switched it out for me. I've had this one for about 1.5 years and one day the cord just cracked open and frayed apart. Real shoddy craftsmanship, Apple. Considering these things are 80 bucks a pop, you think you could make them better. I am so, SO disappointed. I have an appointment at the genius bar tomorrow. Hopefully someone can help me, because I'm not about to blow 80 bucks so I can be back in a year. Apple should be ashamed.

VERY UNHAPPY APPLE CUSTOMER- DANGEROUS CHARGER

    • Written by from Leesburg

As a long time buyer of apple products I decided to buy a 15 inch MacBook Pro Retina. I absolutely love the laptop. It has a beautiful picture and runs like a champ. HOWEVER, the charger is completely horrible. After owning my laptop for 1 year and 2 months my charger burned through the wiring and outer protective sheath. Thank god I didn't have it on some type of cloth because it would have definitely lit something on fire based off of the damage to the wire and the smell or burning gases it produced. It's absolutely ridiculous that Apple makes billions of dollars a year with amazing products but makes something as dangerous and low quality as this charger. I went back to the store I purchased it from and they told me they couldn't help me and I had to buy a new one. When I'm paying $2000 for a laptop you better believe I expect top notch accessories to go with it. I am beyond angry right now about the quality and service of my product. If you're buying this charger keep in mind of the dangerous quality as well as the tendency for the charger to constantly fall out with the slightest touch.

    This thing is a ripoff

    • Written by from Huntingdon Valley

First of all let's just say this is my third time buying a replacement T charger. The T charger is unebelievably weak. It constantly falls out as opposed to my girlfriends L charger which I never had problems with. Yeah yeah I get it, "let's make it look COOL and SLEAK!"....well I got news for ya, Apple sacrificed quality for a better look. This thing is a failure. Let's not forget to mention their super high tech cables that cracked open all 3 times now.

This adapter took a step backwards in design

    • Written by from Austin

I've had a bunch of Mac laptops starting with a PowerBook 140 in the early 1990's (with a series of desktops before that starting with a Mac 128k) and buying a new one just about every year since. There have been three plugs over the decades that shouldn't have gone past the design table into manufacture. The PowerBook 5300 had a metal ring kinda like a male RCA plug that would loose it's grip over time. Then, the first MagSafe adapter was OK but the fraying of the cable at the connector causing a short was a pain (Apple was great to trade them out no problem). A redesign of the plug going parallel with the body of the laptop was great all around and so far is the best plug of any Mac laptop. Then, I got this year's version of the MacBook Air with it's new MagSave adapter v2. Argh! So frustrating and anything but magical! It pops off all the time. I'm having to hold the cable to keep it connected when moving the laptop. Apple's not perfect and this is one example of that, though most - really most of the products they send out into the world delight - just not this particular one.

    TERRIBLE!!!!!

    • Written by from Qualicum Beach

Our power cord is starting to fray so I thought I would check to see what my options are. No options, just the same old piece of junk that has been for sale despite all the negative reviews. REALLY! Doesn't anyone in Apple read these reviews? Not only does the cord fray it is very cumbersome having the adapter stick out so far from the electrical outlet. It gets knocked out quite often. Think maybe you could design something flatter to the wall? Grrrrrr!

This item is disappointing. I'm not sure how this device passed QA due to it it disconnecting way too easy for practical use. Better off using previous the generation magsafe + adapter.

    Disconnects too easily

    • Written by from Fort Mill

This things absolutely blows. Not sure who designed it but it's not practical at all for laptops. It comes easily disconnected with barely any effort at the magnet side when my Macbook Pro Retina is sitting on my lap. The former 90 degree Magsafe power adapter stay connected so much better, even with bumps and moving around.

APPLE, PLEASE REDESIGN or use a FORMER DESIGN THAT WORKED!

    T-style adapter is TERRIBLE!

    • Written by from Washington

I wish Apple had kept the L-shaped adapter. The T-shaped one on this new MagSafe 2 charger is very sensitive to forces and moments - just the slightest nudge unplugs it. I find this to be very frustrating. My old MBP had the L-shaped one and it was very secure, and disconnected only at the appropriate times. This was a poor engineering design choice by Apple (a rare one, thankfully).

Stopped charging my MacBook Pro within 5 month of use. Nothing happens when I plug it in, the lindicator doesn't light up either. Really dissapointed, things like that shouldn't happen when you buy a 2000 $ laptop.

Charger works fine, but it keeps falling off. I agree that it's definitely design because it snaps on pretty strong, but it disconnects way to easily. Can't even charge while using it sitting on the couch. Disconnects at the slightest movement.

    Poor quality insulation

    • Written by from Singapore

I made the mistake of using the sliding clip to secure the cable after coiling. Within 3 months of purchase, the insulation began to fray, exposing the wire. I bought a replacement and have never coiled or clipped the cable. Still, within 6 months, just the sliding of the clip by gravity alone began to erode the rubber insulation. I've had numerous Apple cables before and the insulation has always been of the highest, most durable quality. I still use my 5 year old iPod charger. But this cable is made of the most ridiculously dry, brittle and inflexible material I have ever seen on a wire! It is an insult to the wonderful engineering that went into creating the MacBook Pro.

Common problem with charger. 4/4 for 3 dffrnt. people had same problem

    • Written by from New York

My second charger just had the same problem as the first. The thiner corder leaving the charger gets worn out quickly. When I got the second one, I even put electrical tape around as a preventivie measure but it just lasted a 5 months. I don't even wrap my cord close to the base, or wrap it that often. The same thing happened to two other people I know.
